| For the gamer guys... Posted: 10/27/2006 8:30:23 AM | I don't play games...if i am going to be sat in front of a screen for hours on end i want something to show for it wether that be a creating a picture, a piece of music, some animation or simply making friends. A high score just doesn't satisfy me enough, life is too short to fritter it away playing video games.
As for co-op?....I prefer asda...much cheaper & a better selection!

I like playing alone vs the computer.
I enjoy games that make me think for the most part...

Street fighter, and side scrolling shooters like gunstars heroes. I might get an Xbox if I find the time and money. I liked the look of Hulk:ultimate destruction.

| For the gamer guys... Posted: 10/27/2006 11:18:58 AM | My favorites are strategy and roleplaying games.
I love good fun strategy games, where I have to think and outwit my opponents. Games like Master of Orion 2, and Heroes of Might & Magic III, and the Romance of Three Kingdoms series are my favorites for strategy. And I love being able to play them with a friend. We'll always team up though in most of them, because it will always end up being a stalemate if we're against each other (until I win). LOL! That's why I like RoTK 7, 8 and 10. You can play as an officer, instead of always being the leader. So we can work together or against each other... and if one conquers the other, we can sign up as a vassal. :p
Good roleplaying games with lots of customization and freedom are great. Like Fallout, Arcanum, The Elder Scrolls, Baldur's Gate, Gothic... And of course, having a great story is definitely a plus.
Also, as far as customization goes... the Armored Core games are incredible. TONS of options on how to put your AC together. I love it. I'm just waiting for Will Wright to release "Spore". It's going to definitely be one of the most addictive and open games I've ever played.
I do also enjoy some action games, and platformers, because they're just simple and fun.
But I'd always rather play with someone than against them.

| For the gamer guys... Posted: 10/27/2006 2:31:12 PM | NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, GBA, PSOne, PS2, Genesis, DC, Xbox... And of course, a top quality gaming PC. | |

| For the gamer guys... Posted: 10/27/2006 3:36:40 PM | I don't play as much as I used to, but I was big on fighting games.....King of Fighters....Street Fighter...Killer Instinct back in the day....I still play a lot of the old SNES, NES, Sega, Neo Geo, and playstation games on my PC via emulation.
Not really into PC games themselves though, only really play Elder Scrolls 4 every now and then, sometimes Diablo II.
Not into MMORPGs or Strategic games...No war games....only FPS I liked was Unreal Tournament.
I like RPGs, but usually only the old ones, none of the Final Fantasies after 7. Lets see.....
Still play with my Dreamcast once every blue moon, gave my ps2 to my nephew, and my xbox will only play burned dvd movies.
I usually play on my own, with fighting games I never really had much of a choice, none of my friends would play against me anymore, lol.
Its nice a nice way to pass time when you are bored, but it doesn't cure it.

Mostly I like the stories. For $50 and you get a 40-80 hour story out of it? That's pretty good.
Personally, it's not about the "action" of the game, but thinking things out and being creative with my strategies. Or, the story angle. I've "played" some games which seemed to have more narration than game. Challenge is important though, to have a sense of accomplishment.
For me, it's a work of art. And not only is it a work of art, it's a compilation of works of art. You have visual art, you have music, you have story, mood, atmosphere, etc. All coming together in one single package that you can interact with! Each one is a different experience.
I prefer being solo for this reason. Occasionally I'll play multiplayer, but it's not my thing. And I say away from MMOs because I know how addictive they can be, and I know myself enough to know I'd get hooked. Plus, MMOs don't have an ending typicially...or a plot. Just advancement. And a monthly charge.
I find it amusing that many people have misconceptions about games, especially, but not limited to age. As in, it's a waste of time, or it's all about the score (do most games even have scores anymore?). Or that it's meant for children. Hooray for old politicians who try to convince parents that the evil corporations are trying to corrupt the youth with their violent games. They're so out of touch. George Bush must have learned this since he was on the "internets". They just want to ban art, and they don't even know why. Just to make other people who are out of touch feel better about "the children". For political power. And to me, that's just sad.

Currently re-playing some classics, namely Halo and Morrowind. My roommate is big into the sports games, so been learning NBA Live '07 so we can play and it not be a blow out LOL.

| For the gamer guys... Posted: 10/27/2006 3:58:47 PM | Yeah but ubkobalt, video games are slowly going from art to vomit on plastic. We've always had bad licensed games, but ever since video games became more mainstream we've been drowning in "Tom Clancy's World War II Skateboarding Football Wrestling Action Games." Older franchises are becoming shit.
I've been enjoying games since I was three years old with the NES, but the average game coming out these days are awful. Across the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox, there's only been two franchises I truely enjoyed ( Disgaea and Katamari ).
Nintendo's become sh*t. Sony's raping itself. I never enjoyed PC gaming outside of WoW and Rollar Coaster Tycoon. It's depressing to say that Microsoft is making the only "traditional" console any more.

| For the gamer guys... Posted: 10/27/2006 4:08:38 PM | I don't think that's true. That's been said for years and years. It's the old "This world is going to hell" argument. And "It's not like it used to be." It's not true, it's just nostalgia for the good old days. Sure, it's in a slump right now because we're inbetween ages. That happens during every console death and rebirth cycle.
Those "vomit on plastic" games sell. And make money. (What is it about a fool and his money?) Which allows for the good stuff to happen. 2007 and 2008 are going to be good years. Just trust me on that.

| For the gamer guys... Posted: 10/27/2006 4:14:45 PM | Yes, but past generations didn't have such huge leaps as the Wii is taking ( kinda funny due to how cautious Nintendo was the last generation ). I've just grown sick of what companies are doing. I'll always have my eye out for the true gems, but I'm not going to waste time or money with any of the garbage.
Assuming you don't consider Sonic The Hedgehog to be garbage. Not including the past three games, of course.
EDIT: I am so highly anticipating Metal Gear Solid 4, which has potential to being the greatest game of all time. Sadly, not even the greatest game of all time is worth a $800 Canadian price tag ( PS3, Game, taxes ).

| For the gamer guys... Posted: 10/27/2006 4:23:21 PM | | Yeah there is always a slump, and it picks up again....but really, to me gaming has become too....mainstream. Honestly I liked it better when it wasn't so "in". | |

| For the gamer guys... Posted: 10/27/2006 4:34:01 PM | Dude, When I used to game... it was all about the power struggle and building something while trying to fighting off hordes of computer generated opponents. The games that really needed to be micromanaged were the best. Now, reality is too much like the games, except now I'm trying to build stuff while fighting off hordes of govenment generated tax collectors. On a bright note, these games really taught me how to manage and plan and priortize.
