What was your first real job? Where you had to be at a specific time and you were getting your paycheque through payroll department of the company.
How old were you?
As for me: I was a part time (evening) ESL Teacher for Grade 1 & 3 in Elementary School in Poland. I was 14 at that time.

She was right, worked there 6 months & paid for my grad stuff, like my ring, jacket & dress...just with tips!

| What was your first real job? Posted: 10/29/2006 1:09:21 PM | I was 11, i would drive the tractor on the tobaco farm. Had to get up at around 600 and we were in the fields by 645 or so.
Drive that thing from 7 till 1 or 2 at the latest. Depending on how fast the guys were picking up leaves.
When you are 11 and work in the fields, all the other guys are like 14 and up...it was tough at times.
Btw it isnt a real tractor how you see it here in Alberta. it's more of an engine and you hold the steering to go straight in the row. When they guys have filled up a "baggies" full of leaves they yell "WOohh" and i pull the clutch to stop the tractor. When they say "Goooo" release the clutch ...
I mean it was a summer job, otherwise my first real job was the Army.

| What was your first real job? Posted: 10/29/2006 5:12:39 PM | it was 1979 and i was 15. i quit school and got a job as a photographer at Northtown Mall. or so they told me i would be a photographer. in actuality, i was the guy who took the poloroids of the kids with santa. i has to wear green tights and pointy little shoes. and our santa was an older woman (she even had chin whiskers). she was fired after a few complaints from nutty parents and the whole thing blew up and made the papers and tv. the triple five people who would go on to build west edmonton mall were forced to rehire "mrs. claus" after a huge backlash from the media.
i did look great in spandex tho.

| What was your first real job? Posted: 10/29/2006 5:17:46 PM | I worked at the Drive In theatre in the place i grew up in back east. I was 14 and it was the BEST job to ever have at that age....your breaks you could go hang with your friends in their cars! The only downside was Sunday nights, which were Porn nights and our boss made sure he blacked out the window where we could usually watch the movies from inside the concession booth and he also taught us to put the change for customers on the counter instead of touching their hands to give it back to them..funny thing is it took me until i was almost 20 to realize why he told us to do that...ahhh..the joys of innocence! | |
