| Why, why, why are men so into "love the outdoors" thing Posted: 10/30/2006 7:03:16 PM | Why, why, why are men so into "love the outdoors" and want to go camping and fishing and quadding?? Pleeeeessssssse somebody tell me. Are there really that many women who do this? I don't know of any women who want to sit in the bush with bugs crawling around and strange animals in the forest, and even if it's in a camper trailer (ewww trailer), who wants to cook and clean and make beds and sweep floors on a holiday. Not this cookie. Anyway, it's just a question. Do you really find women who like this stuff? Inquiring minds want to know. | outdoorsey things Posted: 10/30/2006 7:04:16 PM | | I like camping, fishing, etc. Theres nothing wrong with it at all. Good way to wind down and get away from it all. As for bugs, there is spray. | |

| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/30/2006 7:08:04 PM | | I know why, it's because guys love to show they can provide, ruffing it i the wild, catching our meals, as a saying bringing home the bacon. | |

| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/30/2006 7:08:53 PM | For a lot of reasons. Not only are we trying to get in touch with our primal selfs, but we are getting away from the whole routine of the daily life and the noise and hassle of city living.
A camping trip can be very relaxing, and for couples can be a whole lot more.

| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/30/2006 7:09:03 PM | Yes there are women who absolutley love this stuff! I have found that they even complain or drop a hint that they don't do enough of it. To tell you the truth, it doesn't matter to me whether they like it or not. I LIKE IT! | |

| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/30/2006 7:23:46 PM | omg, there's not much i like better than doin' these things! gettin' downright dirty and roughin' it is a great feeling. it's relaxing... and it's nice to know that your partner can take you as you are - four days without a proper shower, sans make-up and clean clothes, and probably on your second flat of beer... as for the trailer thing... that's not camping.. a tent on the cold hard ground is where it's at. And really.. who makes their bed, sweeps the floor or does extensive cleaning (aside from the fish that you caught earlier that day) when they're out camping? Bugs are part of the fun.. you get to play connect the dots with all the bites you racked up over the week. | |

*Lol* I'm just the same, OP. I never quite understood why people would agree to spend time in such conditions and somehow call it a holiday.... How can doing more work just for the basics be considered a holiday?!
I much prefer a lovely hotel where people do things for me; where I don't have to lift a finger. THAT is a vacation. Fresh, crisp sheets that I didn't have to wash or put back on the bed, a shining bathroom, chocolates on my pillow, room service, etc...
*sigh* God, I could use a few days of that!

| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/30/2006 8:35:05 PM | lol I like the finer things in life too, but there is nothing better than laying outside staring up at the stars, I'd rather that then a ritzy celing fan :P BUT to each there own right | |

| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/30/2006 8:35:12 PM | Screw camping in North America. The mosquitos will eat you alive.
Much better to camp in the tropical jungle. You don't need a sleeping bag as it goes down to 90 degrees at night. Not many mosquitos at all (I'm serious). Instead you'll have scorpions, foot long centipedes and leeches cuddle up to you at night. You are guaranteed at least one torrential downpour a day to bathe you. If you can't wait, there is always the nearest pirhanna or alligator filled lake (seriously pirhanna won't bite you).
Actually, when I was in Borneo, the overwhelming majority of tourists were women who seemed to love it.

| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/30/2006 8:45:12 PM | I hate to be Captain Obvious on this one, but one would think that if you didn't like it then maybe you shouldn't do it. Maybe try to find a man/woman who likes indoor kinda stuff. But it's just a thought.
Personally I love being outdoors with all the bugs and fury animals (it's really nice when your with a lady friend during beaver season). Comming back to camp after a nice quiet walk looking at nature in all it's splendor and having a few drinks around a roaring campfire after stuffing yourself on some homemade din din cooked right on the fire. Ug ug ar UG AAAWOOOOO! (oops that slipped out). But really folks, it doesn't get much better than a full stomach, good drinks, a hot fire, and barking at the moon! I find it a very relaxing place to be and if it's on a beach/river/lake/pond/creak/stream/big puddle, all the better.
Some of my best memories growing up were the summer vacation when my parents and us kids would travel around the country in our trusty pop-up camper, a "scamper" actually, pulled by the ol' fake wood sided station wagon. Then eventually we finally got a travel trailer (I know, I know, ewww a trailer)! But without that I would have never been able to see all the places I have seen growing up and we probably never could have afforded to travel without camping.
I still camp to this day, but now I use a tent for when I am on land and a boat for the water. Boating is nothing more than water camping when you really think about it. Unless you just go out on the boat for the day and then stay in the beach house/hotel ar night kinda boating. I like going out for days.
I know boats are somehow different to some people, but when it comes down to it, it's just a camper that floats and the fact that there is no bush to go pee behind.

| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/30/2006 9:00:45 PM | It is something that several people enjoy, men and women alike. It sounds to me like you just dont enjoy nature and relaxing. And as for the camper remark, I have a camper that probably costs more than your cars! Its Ok to post a thread, but dont put down people who enjoy it. I camp with a tent as well with my travel trailer(camper). If you tried it you just might enjoy it as much as alot of us. | |

| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/30/2006 9:45:30 PM | Its because we enjoy stalking a lone animal silently through the night with nothing more than an oversized knife, leaping on it, besting it in mortal combat, and then wearing its pelt for warmth and status while devouring its remains. Well, not really, but it appeals to the same instinct yeah? And you can bet your ass that if more people possesed the requisite skill set, that would be a popular hobby.
Anyhow, camping is basically a license to exhaust yourself, and then after you've gotten exhausted, find out how much you really enjoy fire and food made by your own hand. At the risk of sounding Tyler Durdenesque, it lets you do something where you can see immediate, applicable, real world results with more value than your TPS reports. On that note, you can learn more about a person in a week of camping than you could in months of consequence free interaction.
Also, you're allowed to make fire. With saws and axes and knives and stuff. And is that not just freakin awesome?

I have met _lots_ of really amazing women who love all of this too.
Yes there are that many women out there who share a love for the outdoors.
Camping is NOT about "sitting in the bush with bugs crawling around ..." Let me set a stage for you if I may:
Its friday afternoon and you are all packed to go camping. The tent, stove, sleeping bags, kayaks, cooler, and so forth are all packed and secured. You head off to a large plot of land owned by the govt. where you can camp for free. After an exciting off-road drive through an old logging site you finally arrive at a large _secluded_ lake with narry a soul to be seen. Camp is set up down by the lake, everything in place. As the evening draws near the comforting smell of a campfire delicately laces the air. A zesty stir-fry is prepared and served with a nice light wine and enjoyed sitting side-by-each at the inviting camp fire. As the evening light fades a few more logs are thrown on the fire as preparations are made for an evening of skinny-dipping in the clean, refreshing water of the lake.
Can you admit that what I have written sounds appealing? Notice that I have excluded the mention of bugs and animals? In reality you don't even notice any of the same bugs you would see when say, barbequeing at home or sunbathing at the beach.
Trust me, I could show anybody that it is NOT as bad as it seems given the chance.

|
| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/31/2006 10:17:36 AM | You said it bear! Besides, just because someone loves camping doesn't mean they do it on a daily....or even weekly basis! I love camping but I only got out twice last year....
The outdoors is so wonderful and it can mean anything from just being in your back yard instead of in a stuffy house all day, to going for hikes for an hour or so, to spending a few hours with friends four wheeling and building a fire afterward!
Don't knock it till you've tried it!

| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/31/2006 10:22:47 AM | Growing up in the country you don't get fancy holiday's. You get to pack up the cooler and trucks and bikes and go out in the middle of no where's and pitch your tents. Have a huge party and bon fires. There really is nothing like it. Some people just love these things. It is in our blood. The people that dont enjoy it really shouldn't do it. It isn't for everyone.
Just dont try to change for someone that does though!
|
| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/31/2006 10:29:17 AM | This varies on a per-person basis. I don't care for camping, fishing, canoeing, horseback riding, or much of the "great outdoors" altogether. Other men love that stuff, and so do a fair number of women.
I don't care for watching sports, either, but other people of both sexes can't get enough of it.
|
| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/31/2006 10:33:26 AM | Different strokes for different folks. I need to be dragged (kicking and screaming) into a mall. When I sit around at lunch and people are talking about how they have to mow their lawn this weekend, or what colour to paint their living room, I want to jump out a window.
Are there girls that like the outdoors? I'm sure there is, but that's not why I do it.
|
| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/31/2006 10:36:59 AM | I like the camping thing well enough, but my outdoorsy thing is preferable on the water. My boat is like a floating camper with the galley, comfy beds, beautiful views and very few bugs. And, it's fun getting wherever the hell the wind blows you...
I've done lots of hiking, camping and that sort of stuff, but boating is where it's at.
|
| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/31/2006 10:45:16 AM | As a guy, I can honestly say I am sick of that sort of thing. Did it all the time growing up, and have lived in the country most of my life. Don't want to do it anymore damnit
The ONLY thing I like still, is just going out to stare at the stars, and enjoy the quiet(mostly quiet). Spend a few hours doing that, and its time to go back into populated areas.
|
| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/31/2006 11:01:52 AM | It's simply part of the male code of communication disinformation.
It is really our way of pre-empting the request to go to the mall for 6 hours on a Saturday.
If you've turned down our camping request you're not likely to ask US on a dangerous expedition like that either.
|
| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/31/2006 11:53:59 AM | | Camping and quadding are things men do. Shopping and cleaning are things men don't typically do. Just because we like certain things doesn't mean we expect you to like the same things. Yeah, it's fun when you share mutual interests and all that. The important thing is to be supportive of each other's interests. | |
|
| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/31/2006 6:53:39 PM | | OMG, those things are just NECESSARY for me!! A guy who doesn't camp is seriously a deal breaker for me... a guy who quads, snowmobiles, hunts, fishes, drives a pick up truck... now we're talking!!..... Darn right some girls find this sexy! | |
