if a woman is single at a certain age she could be considered a spinster, a recluse, an old maid........but what is a man considered at the same age?
do single women get labelled more as they age versus a man? | |

Posted: 11/14/2006 11:33:52 PM | I think it depends on their lot in life. Sean Connery is 76 and probably can get laid like he's 26, but then he's a wealthy famous guy. Women will tell you he's just sexy, but come on, he's a 76 year old man. Same thing with the late Tony Randall, he was having kids with a relatively young woman into his 70's. I'm quite certain if either of these guys walked up to a young woman and they were just Joe Smith, retired auto worker from Windsor, Ontario, the young woman would be creeped out. Now if he walked up after getting out of his new Mercedes and seemed put together, maybe a little less creepy. That's not to label women as completely superficial, but rather these men represent what is somewhat desireable (ability to take care of them and their offspring, genetically speaking).
I think the main difference between men and women when it comes to aging is that because men can father children quite late into life and women can't, competition for "the womb" and competition for "the seed" occurs. So, a man can compensate for getting saggy and grey and all of the other things that gravity and aging do when you get old by being successful and wealthy.
Again, if you are not wealthy, you're just a creepy old dude, and when you are wealthy (and assuming you have all of your faculties about you), you're sophisticated, worldly and charming regardless of how much Geritol you take, how much knowledge of bran you have, and possibly whether you know a lot about diapers but don't have any little children. But you don't see Sean Connery or Tony Randall getting "saggy and grey and all of the other things that gravity and aging do." I have met a few movie stars in airports, etc..... and they have an energy to them that is not related to wealth and fame... it is part of them.
OT - women do get labelled more than men, I think.... but I also think that is starting to change. Look at the terms 'bachelor' and 'bachelorette'..... in every case I have seen, 'bachelorette' is more flirty and fun .... 'bachelor' is just a statement of a man's single status.

You don't think that "energy" has anything to do with them having wealth and fame and you project that "energy" upon them? I have met several celebrities at airports among other places and I haven't found them to have any sort of special energy. Most celebrities are made by PR agents and publicists. The days of the old style movie stars with real charisma, not to mention talent, are few and far between. | |

And yep I am an elegable bachelor if your wondering !
Way too many you older women that are single have the grumpy 's to even think us single older men are a good catch .
Yet you sit there and wonder why us men are smiling and havin lots of fun even though we're single and looking for a sexy sweety .

As all your doing is keeping you single !! Always wondering and always using excuses for your singleness ladies only hurts you not us men . As for me hey I am always in a good mood 99 percent of the time and the other 1 percent I am at work and thats never fun !
