| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/16/2006 9:16:37 AM | | I heard on the news a while back that the government is going to impose fines on council's that don't encourage recycling...Do you think this is right?...and do you recycle your unwanted stuff? | |
|
| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/16/2006 9:19:18 AM | | I recycle what I can, make frequent trips down to the dump to deposit my rubbish. The bottle bank gets a good seeing too as well. Then there is the paper recycling and then all the garden waste. Never used to do any of that before I moved to Germany in the early 90's, came as a bit of a shock to have to start sorting out your rubbish but you soon learn. | |
|
| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/16/2006 9:22:33 AM | good for you oh evil genius, i recycle paper, plastic and glass, and i think councils imposing fines on the lazy buggers who dont is a good thing | |
|
| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/16/2006 9:22:53 AM | I think it's a great idea. I am a recycling freak to be honest, and think we should all do our bit.
The landfill sites are overloaded with rubbish including items that can be used again. It's a waste of money and resources if we don't recycle what we can.
I recycle everything possible, and even buy Echo cleaning products, i don't use aerosoles etc.
|
| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/16/2006 9:31:02 AM | | I recycle as much as possible. However the problem of rubbish has to be made aware to manufacturers and distributers. The amount of packaging is ridiculous on some items. Ben Bradshaw (a minister with defra) suggested we leave all excess packaging at the tills when buying items. In theory an excellent idea as it may make the likes of M&S, tesco's etc become more aware of the problem. Unfrotunatley once you've paid for the goods the 'rubbish' is yours and leaving it behind in quantity is classed as fly tipping. | |
|
| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/16/2006 9:55:00 AM | then the solution would be to ask at the major stores if it is ok to unpack and get rid of excess packaging before you buy, encourage your friends to do the same, they wont be long in getting the message once the shit starts piling up around them | |
|
| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/16/2006 9:58:52 AM | I recycle as much as possible, I have 3 bins 1 for paper, 1 for household rubbish and 1 for garden waste.
The council are bringing in one for cans/tins shortly..
I dont use the botle bank much as I dont use many bottles , most of mine are plastic...
|
| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/16/2006 10:01:02 AM | Tesco's is giving green points if you bag your shopping up using used carriers. I've noticed they are selling a lot more environmental friendly products too.
Only thing that bugs me, is that to purchase these items, it does cost a lot more. I'd have thought with it been more friendly, using less packaging etc, it would be cheaper?
|
| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/16/2006 10:04:23 AM | Yep i recycle, we have one regular rubbish bin & then boxes for paper & another for plastic bottles, glass bottles & some kind of tins & cans, im not quite sure about that bit so I just put them all in there | |
|
| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/16/2006 10:04:32 AM | | My local council provides an excellent recycling system, we have 2 wheelie bins, one for cardboard, one for non recycle stuff, a big bag for tins and foil, another for paper,I wish they could provide something for glass nearby as I live in a very small village and I don't have a car...but I do have a lot of wine bottles! | |
|
| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/16/2006 10:31:55 AM | Yes when I no longer want a man I slip him back into the pond to be re-cycled for another ladies use!
Other unwanted items such as man crap gets e-bayed!

| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/16/2006 12:56:30 PM | | Do u think i cud re-cycle my kids,,, change them for good, polite, grateful ones | |
|
| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/16/2006 2:20:49 PM | | As much as I would love to complain about the local council about their tax increase over the years, I have to say they do provide a good refuse service. They usually pick up glass (black box) and plastics/tins (mauve) on one week and paper (green) on the alternate week. They also provide brown wheelie bin for grass as well. Sometimes they do forget, which ends up me getting off my behind and visiting the local bottle/paper bank. | |
|
| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/16/2006 3:51:07 PM | | I DO WHOT I CAN I HAVE ITS NOT A FINE THAT WORRYS ME ITS MY KIDS IF I PUT SOMETHING IN THE WRONG BIN LOL | |
|
| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/17/2006 12:38:41 AM | I must admit I don't recycle much. We have a clear bag for paper and a blue bag for tins and plastic, which is collected alternatively every 2 weeks. I did recycle a lot a couple of years back, but seeing that other peple in the street don't bother, I thought why should I.
As for fines, I suppose if the council gets fined then the council tax will go up, but then they will use any excuse to put that up. We don't have any wheelie bins, so there is no way that our council can tell who is or who is not recycling.
Maybe I should do more recycling, but is it really going to help? the best thing is to burn the rubbish and use it to generate power, but then people will moan about global warming which in my opinion is a natural phenomenon, it is going to happen any way.

| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/17/2006 3:21:03 AM | I am going to be honest here....
I never seem to have the time.. if im cooking and in a hurry i just throw it all in one bag...
We have pink bags for normal household rubbish.... and clear bags for recyling rubbish!! I will do it if i have the time...

| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/17/2006 3:34:19 AM | Yes--it's a pain and I do slip up but it's in all our interests.
I instruct at a recycling operation so I have to say that manufacturers will have to do better. The WEEE yes weee regulations which will come into effect soon will cause losts of problems for us.
You will still be able to take you stuff to the tip but you will have to pay serious money for the priviledge. Unfortunately our countryside will get the brunt of it---in five to ten years, in the absence of a real solution every lane/track/road will have its washer/dryer/hoover/cooker for us all to maon about.
Of course we will expect the council to clear it up--huh does that mean our taxes will go up to, so yes we will have to pay twice once for our own and another for all the lovely folk who don't give a sh*t.
MMMMM lovely--not

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment--takin the *iss init

| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 11/17/2006 4:07:00 AM | I recycle, and it's not really a hardship. However I do have a question that I am hoping this thread can answer. How come eventhough all my tins, boxes and bottles are recycled, do I still end up with a full household bin every week? Somethings wrong!
I don't understand how any one can refuse to recycle, the bins are provided free of charge and picked up for free so where's the hardship?
|
| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 3/20/2007 12:05:52 PM | | Having seen the recent carrier bag thread I searched for recycling in general and found this one. I do think councils should do more to encourage recycling. I try to recycle whatever I can but I'm finding it hard to find anywhere near me that will recycle plastic bottles. Most people I know in other areas of the country have plastic collected along with all the other recycling. Also if I leave paper out to be collected and there's even one thin piece of cardboard (like ready meal packaging) they just leave the whole lot. This seems absurd when cardboard goes in the paper recycling banks anyway. I've stopped bothering to leave recycling out and stockpile it to take to the tip or supermarket now which is a pain when I don't always have access to a car. But I'd rather do that than put it in the bin. | |

I heard on the news a while back that the government is going to impose fines on council's that don't encourage recycling...Do you think this is right?...
Once again, the government shows that all it cares about is the financial costs, rather than the effect on the environment.
No, I don't think it is right.
.and do you recycle your unwanted stuff?
No, never. .........it's a waste of my time.
Some of our recyclable material ends up being sold to China, where it is used as land-fill. So, no trees are saved, large amounts of fuel is used to get it over there, and it ends up in a hole in the ground.

| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 3/20/2007 12:23:07 PM | | We have a charity here in Belfast that collects bottles, clothes and paper once a week. Everything else goes in the one black wheelie bin, but I buy my veg loose, I don't eat tinned or packet food (apart from bread and spread), so my wheelie bin only needs to be put out once a month. But there again, I live alone and have no pets or children so I don't generate that much rubbish. I don't have a shredder so I take my paperwork to work and shred it there and it is recycled. | |

| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 3/20/2007 12:42:32 PM | | I just noticed my neighbours doin some excellent recycling. Her kids deliver those free papers we get for estate agents and stuff. But i noticed tonight they've not bothered with the delivery bit and put about 200 of them out for the recycling men ! So instead of us chucking em straight in the bin they are doin it for us, Brilliant. | |

| recycling your rubbish.. Posted: 3/20/2007 12:45:15 PM | | I recycle what I can, but my local council doesn't recycle cardboard or plastic, I asked them about this and was told to take it to my nearest recycling center which is a 40 mile rond trip by bus. | |
