| Bill Maher - opinions? Thoughts? Posted: 11/24/2006 4:08:15 PM | Okay I know this may stir up some controversy but that is what these forums are all about - - speaking your mind and expressing your opinions.
I personally think that Bill Maher is perhaps one of the smartest people in America and these days he appears to be the only voice of reason and someone who isn't afraid to speak his mind against the current regime in power in the United States. He is what democracy is all about - - speaking out against absolute ignorance of the hyper conservative christian right that has hijacked the country.
I personally love the way that he is absolutely merciless in his rants against George W. Bush (a guy who openly believes and admits that Jesus speaks to him), Carl Rove,****Chenney and Donald Rumsfeld (or Darth Rumsfeld).
Please keep the insults you may have against me to yourself - - the purpose of this forum is to start a discussion and that's all.

| Bill Maher - opinions? Thoughts? Posted: 11/24/2006 4:23:54 PM | I'm totally in sympathy with Bill Maher's view of George Bush and his administration. They're a cancer in the world.
Other than that, I'm not real familiar with Maher's turf, but since you mentioned, I'll keep a watch...

| Bill Maher - opinions? Thoughts? Posted: 11/24/2006 4:24:06 PM | He was totally sexy on Politically Incorrect, but has gone waaaaay downhill ever since.
I don't admire his choice in women. Why must they always look so slutty? Seriously, one of the chicks he dated wore tiger ears. I don't know if they were at a costume party, and I don't care. Bill - you're a smart man - whyyyyyyy must you lower yourself by hobnobbing with bimbos?
*le sigh*
By the way, did you SEE what he dressed up as this Halloween? Steve Irwin. Yup, the Crocodile Hunter...complete with blood stains and a stingray attached to his chest. Talk about a lack of class.

| Bill Maher - opinions? Thoughts? Posted: 11/24/2006 4:56:41 PM | | Anticon - you gotta check out "Real Time with Bill Maher" on HBO. If you have "On Demand" a bunch of the past shows are available. He is AWESOME!! One of the smartest guys in the country. | |
|
| Bill Maher - opinions? Thoughts? Posted: 11/24/2006 4:59:09 PM | | Yes I did see what he dressed up as for Halloween and agree that it was kind on insensitive. I actually was/am a fan of Steve Erwin and really liked what he stood for. However, that is who Bill Maher is - - visciously out spoken and expressive of his opinions!! I hail HBO for letting him do whatever he wants to. That is what democracy is all about. | |

| Bill Maher - opinions? Thoughts? Posted: 11/24/2006 7:17:43 PM | The man is very funny...he does go off on George and that is all good, but he is getting way out on the left hand limb of the tree of liberalism...he needs to chill just a bit. If you ever watch his show..Real time..and I do...he has two uber libs to ONE republican(if he allows one to be on the show)...Kinda like a pack of pitbulls on a three legged cat... But very funny either way....... | |

| Bill Maher - opinions? Thoughts? Posted: 11/24/2006 7:33:35 PM | Um, ...isn't he a comedian?
.......it seems that the most popular counter to the extreme right-wing pundits is, ....comedians.
To me this speaks volumes.
Stewart, Colbert, Maher, ...if Rush, Bill, and Glen are the best comedians the right can field? ....ouch.

According to Maher he was trying to make a point, when you surround yourself with dangerous animals then you are exposing yourself to dangerous situations, and that more than likely he had done something to provoke the stingray.
I thought it was a bit tastelsss, but to some degree I understood his point, as far as his slant on politics generally he is a straight shooter, and like Keith Obermann, he has no qualms about critiquing the top branches of our government.

| Bill Maher - opinions? Thoughts? Posted: 11/25/2006 1:18:12 AM | From what I've seen, he has interesting people on his show. He's even had my favorite musician on his show, so big props for that. He's obviously an intelligent person. However, he does like to hear himself talk too much (as does Bill O), and he doesn't always show the respect he should, which has come back to bite him.
As for the Steve Irwin gag, that was a bad call. I never heard of people wearing scorched and tattered spacesuits on Halloween after either of the shuttle disasters, and that would be making the same "point", in my view.

| Bill Maher - opinions? Thoughts? Posted: 11/25/2006 1:22:13 AM | There are tons of precautions done with the space program and the training of astronauts, now you place your hand in a box of spiders, what do you think will happen? The shuttles were assumed to be fairly safe, when you look danger directly in the face, well things happen, ask Marlin Perkins or Jim Fowler. | |

| Bill Maher - opinions? Thoughts? Posted: 11/25/2006 9:46:39 AM | I like Bill Maher for one reason...the man can change his mind.
He takes a practical view and as he learns more he adjusts his opinion. I respect that. Especially in an enviornment where the major media does more manipulating and controlling than reporting.

I have mixed emotions when people die doing what they love. On one hand, they know the risks involved.
Thats what I said, I have no idea why it was so hard for you to comprehend that, if you are looking for an arguement, look elsewhere.

| Bill Maher - opinions? Thoughts? Posted: 11/25/2006 4:48:58 PM | Typical political bullshitter.
Randy Weaver once attended a (ONE) meeting of the Aryan nations for the sole purpose of meeting other people that believed in being prepared.
Bill Maher took that, and spun it into calling him a terrorist because he was raising his children to be White supremists and constantly took them to Neo Nazi meetings.
While I don't advocate ever going to meetings of the Aryan Nations, I also don't advocate being a POS liar to turn your audience against a man who did nothing more than distrust the government, (rightfully so since they later tried to entrap him, then murdered his dog, son (shot in the back as he ran away), and wife(shot in the face, while unarmed and holding their infant)
Once someone like Maher lies so blatantly about something like that, it's hard to ever listen to him again.

| Bill Maher - opinions? Thoughts? Posted: 11/25/2006 9:02:19 PM | I saw him live here in Pittsburgh recently, and he brought the house down.
I don't always agree with him, in fact, I think he can be sort of a jerk at times (I didn't like what he said about Steve Irwin), but he's entertaining and makes you think. That's why I like him.

| Bill Maher - opinions? Thoughts? Posted: 11/26/2006 8:17:29 AM | | Yes Jon Stewart is also awesome!! I'd love to see a debate between him and Bill Maher. I think that would be the greatest match of wits ever possible. Both of them are so sharp. | |
|
| Bill Maher - opinions? Thoughts? Posted: 11/26/2006 10:58:48 AM | Maher isn't afraid to come out and make a statement. He really took some hits, simply by being honest. The fact that his show got cancelled proved that type of issue to anyone that doubted it.
He simply said that the people that flew the planes into the buildings on 9/11 could not be called cowards, although they could be called a lot of other things. He was essentially right. A coward doesn't pilot a plane into a building at 500 miles an hour.
For that, he lost his show.
The Steve Irwin bit was over the top, but still a valid statement, in a sense. Here is a fellow that spent his entire life with dangerous animals, who gets killed (in an almost "hit by lightening" type of event by one) , and who is suddenly turned into this mythical figure because of it.
I'm not saying I agree with it, but I see the point he was trying to make by doing it - as a comedian.

By the way, did you SEE what he dressed up as this Halloween? Steve Irwin. Yup, the Crocodile Hunter...complete with blood stains and a stingray attached to his chest. Talk about a lack of class. Well what do you expect? He's a freaking comedian! A smart comedian, but still a comedian!
Bill - you're a smart man - whyyyyyyy must you lower yourself by hobnobbing with bimbos? Don't hate, perhaps this means that you have a chance with him...just kidding.
If you ever watch his show..Real time..and I do...he has two uber libs to ONE republican Personally, I really like his viewpoints and I respect the fact that he has both liberal and conservative guests on his show. I have never watched a republican host that had half as many liberal guests as Bill has had republican guests, and liberals are on Conservative programs, they almost never let them finish a sentence. Some of bills liberal guests are this way, but I have rarely seen bill himself interrupt a conservative opinion before first hearing it through. I have even heard him reprimand his liberal guests for interrupting an opinion.
HE'S GOT MY VOTE!!! | |

| Bill Maher - opinions? Thoughts? Posted: 11/28/2006 11:35:59 AM | | I wish his show was on year round. HBO only shows it for like 2.5 months at a time about twice a year. | |

he makes you wanna vote Libertarian....
The rest is Bill doing what he does best; being a cynical comedian. It's his job.

| Bill Maher - opinions? Thoughts? Posted: 11/29/2006 6:31:55 PM | Maher on Mark Foley scandal [CNN's 'Situation Room' interview, for instance].
God, he pushed the envelope. Did make over-light of a gross abuse of power.
Having said that...I still fell off my chair with a belly laugh!
