Simple little unexpected things make my day. They can bring a smile to my face, be it a smile to someone who has a frown or a gentle dontation of clothes, cans or loose pocket change, during a trying hoilday season for some. I was at Timmy's drive thru yesterday and I placed my order for a tea, I got up to the cash and she handed it to me and said, "The lady infront of you paid for you" Shocked, I looked to see if it was someone I knew and said to the cashier, I don't know this woman, are you sure? her response was, "It has been going for quite a few cars now, I think it's a random act of kindness thing" so of course I hop on the band wagon and pay for the next car... now I think to myself, "When did it end?" Who was the greedy one to take the freebie?" I know it made my day and put a smile smile on my face!
Any other nice random acts of kindness, heart warming touchers?
Happy Hoildays

On t.v. they have a thing that plays inbetween the movie that a lady pays for a man behind her dry cleaning, and leaves her card. A bold move, but she wanted to meet that person, because she liked what she seen. Are you sure it wasn't the same thing? Sometimes people do what they see on t.v.

Why not adopt this practice as a regular, maybe weekly action?

Do a small good-deed, unasked, quietly.

Why? Its good medicine for the soul. Physically, for you, its also healthy - it promotes release of little peptides, feel good endocrine compounds, that reinforce congenial, positive social interaction. The more you do it, the better you feel.

Its a balm for social isolation and apathy. Not surprisingly, when regularly practiced, it also appears to have a rebound effect. Others will also pick up the habit.

I started doing Random Acts of Kindness many years ago and started at Christmas time. I now do it all throughout the year and I get a kick out people expression when you do something nice and they don't know you.

I love how you feel, doing something positive with nothing in return. I went to a hockey game last night and my friend was blown away that she didn't have to pay me for the ticket, I used the magic words, its christmas time. I truly believe when we take time out and do something simple & fun, good things will follow and when you least expected, someone else will do it in return.

I think everyone should try it to unsuspecting stranger or friend, and once you done it, it will be something you want to do it over and over. Have fun.

LOL I posted this exact same thread last week and it was voted off within 10 minites as redundent LOL Anywways, I have been paying for someone's Timmie's order at the drive through every day for the past 7 days, and will continue until X-mas Eve (Timmie's is closed X-Mas day, the only day is is closed during the year).

It's such a great feeling! Such a little something that makes a difference in someone's day. $1 for a little random act of kindness goes a long way!

Just the other day I was on the recieving end of a really random and incredible act of kindness.
My son has been wanting a cat, so I called a lady about an ad that was placed giving away a kitty. When I called the lady, she seemed a bit overboard, questioning me extensively about what kind of home I was going to provide for the cat, etc.
I talked to her for about 30 minutes on the phone, and agreed to drive the 30 minutes to her home to get the cat.
I was reconsidering the entire morning since it was rainy, and I really didn't want to drive that far just to get a cat, but I did so because I didn't want to let my son down.
I get to the womans house, and my first thought was of how little she appeared to have.
It was a trailer sort of out in the middle of no where.
Once inside the lady gives me elaborate instruction's for the kitty, and finally an envelope that says, "To my new family".
She instructs me to open the envelope once I get home, and to be sure not to lose the envelope.
I get home, and at this point I am so intrigued about the envelopes contents.
I open the envelope, and inside was a note that said, "The Lord bless you and keep you, and make His face shine upon you, and give you peace", along with 3 $100.00 dollar bills.
I called her right away, and she simply stated she wanted to be sure we had a Merry Christmas.
I was moved to tears, and certainly inspired to pay it forward.

This society is so selfish, that we really should be doing more of the kinder things for others.
Is it really such a bad thought?
I think it is great, with some of the examples given here!
Merry Christmas, everyone!

It is truly sad that a thread on performing random acts of kindness dies so quickly......

I would challenge anyone that reads this thread to do one random act of kindness and then post what you did on this thread and how it felt doing it...

I'll be back with my post tomorrow....

It's only true kindness if you don't expect anything in return. Do something without telling anyone.

True, Paddle my own canoe. You go to bed that night with a smile. But sometimes I can't help but tell someone else.

I used to take the toll road every day when I was going to college. One night, it was really late and I had to go through the toll lane that was manned (not the autmated ones) because I didn''t have the change ($.50). The toll guy told me that the person in front of me paid for me. I was stunned as this has never happened to me before. All I had was $1 bill so I paid for the next two people. It felt pretty good!

I have been behind people in the check out at the store when they were short about $2. While they were deciding what item to put back, I just handed them the $2 and told them to just pay me back by doing something nice for someone else.

I helped these two elderely women with a patio chair they were trying to get in their car. I was parked next to them, so I took some bungee cords from my trunk, put the chair in their trunk and used the bungee cords to tie down the trunk lid for their trip home. I thought they were going to cry! They tried to pay me for the cords (you can get them at the dollar store) and I waved them off and told them to just have a good day and enjoy the new chair on such a wonderful, warm summer day! It felt AWESOME!

I was at the hardware store picking up a few things and while struggling to get a bulky item out of the cart and into my trunk, a nice young man came over to assist. He lifted the item out of the cart and into my trunk in one swift movement and then took my cart and put it in the cart corral in the lot. It was a small act, but it totally made my day!

Just little things....hold a door, lending a hand....can totally turn a day around for someone. In hte above instance, I was having a particulary bad day. I have a neurological disorder and was in a lot of pain that day (hence why I was struggling) and that young man asked no questions, offered his assistance and bid me good day. I sat in my car and nearly cried because the kindness of a stranger touched me and even though I was in great physical pain, my spirit was healed.

As a Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts leader, randoms acts of kindness are something we stress to the boys to do everyday. As a matter of fact, the Boy Scouts Slogan is ... Do a good turn daily. And it is part of the Boy Scout Oath... To help other people at all times. And also part of the Boy Scout Law...Helpful: He does things willingly for others without pay or reward. I have tried to make this a vital part of my eveyday life and hope that everyday everyone of the boys I am a leader over do the same.

I might be a FOOL, but I ain't dumb!!

I was at the grocery store today and some poor elderly man was trying to make sense of his wife's grocery list. He laughingly admitted she usually comes with him to shop and had no idea what she meant by 'dipping sauces' for chicken.

An old gentleman of the road looked at me as I left a job agency once (hard times) and held up his withered dog end and asked me if I had a spare ciggie. "Sorry mate, I don`t smoke" was my reply. He then looked hard at his dog end again and looked totally despondent. I walked a bit further and kinda connected with that look. I`d had one hell of an emotional caning that month and that dog end was the last bit of happiness in his day. So I went to the nearest newsagent and bought a pack of old holborn and went back to the old guy and handed it over to him. He genuinely thanked me, shook my hand, and you know, harmony was restored again! Gave me pleasure to restore a bit of sunshine to the old boys day. Probably smoked himself silly and coughed his guts up after that!

I was grocery shopping the other day and after I left the store and was putting my groceries in the trunk of the car an raggedy lady walked up to me holding a handfull of cross-necklaces she had made apparently by simple pieces of plastic tied together with varying colors of thread.

This lady apologized in a very humble manner and offered me one of the crosses and said that I could have it for anything that I might be able to afford monetarily because her and her daughter were on living in a shelter and those crosses were the only thing she could afford to make and she needed food for the two of them.

I took note of the woman's hands and noted the swollen red tell tale signs of someone who may actually be homeless so she wasn't trying to play me for a fool or anything. I also noted that some of the crosses were sloppily put together unlike some others that were formed by a more experienced hand.

I thought about the situation for a moment then I whipped out $5.00 out of the $8.00 I had on me at the time and handed it over to the lady and she asked me what color of necklace I would like.

I told her to save my necklace for someone who liked them but couldn't afford to pay for it. She asked me if I was sure (apparently she was used to getting this response) and she told me that she freely gave them away anyway for people who really liked them so it didn't matter.

I thanked her again and said to use that extra cross to get some more food for her and her daughter. I reached up to shake her hands and she told me that she couldn't do that because she was dirty and I smiled back and took her hand and shook it anyway.

Well after getting over the shock of my act she just smiled a big grin and said thank you to me and hoped god would bless me etc. etc.

So I guess that was my act of random kindness, although it kind of just walked up on me.

The first random act of kindness i can think of done for me is ... stopping at a gas station on the highway to pick up milk (my young daughter was with me at the time). I tried to use my bankcard, but it wouldn't work for some reason, so I went out to my truck to scrounge $5.00.
Minutes later the cashier came out with the milk ... and said "that guy wanted to pay for it", and pointed to the guy who was going to his truck. I appreciated it, thanked him for it, but was VERY embarassed for some reason!

I do what I can for people, and would love to do more!

A person approached me before I went into a grocery store one day asked if I could buy him something to eat, because he was starving .. "just a bag of chips even, ma'am - anything".
I did what shopping I needed to do, and shopped specifically for him - buying him healthy food instead. When I went out I could not find him, but thought I could find him (small town). I did find him sitting in a back alley with some of his 'associates' and dropped off a bag of food for him ... he had such a shocked look on his face, that anyone would actually do that for him!

in the past i've:
- leant money to friends without asking for it back
- if i leave a car park early and he an hour or two left on my ticket ill give it to someone coming in even though it says non-transferable
- i let a few people out at a junction when i see other people not doing so.

That's a great story. This woman understands the true spirit and joy of giving. One of my favorite quotes by Tony Robbins: "What you give, you get to keep. What you fail to give, you lose forever."

Thank you for sharing the kitten story (from 'gregariousf30'). I wish you and your son so much happiness!

I don't know if it would be considered a random act, but I work with At-Risk Kids as my vocation.

I've been going to the same convienence store near where I work for years to get coffee and sodas. Everytime I go to pay for it, whatever clerk is working shoos me away without having me pay.

I've never asked why, and nobody has ever told me why.

I think its their way of saying thank you for what I do.

Its those type of rewards that for me, my paycheck can never provide.

How good is this...I would go to a restaurant...most of the time I eat alone, and I use my card...I hate to use it on a single meal so I would ask the waiter or waitress to bring me the ticket of a couple sitting a table over. I would pay for that too...and then walk out. I have done that one several times.
