Raw Milk what are your thoughts. Are you for it or against it?

Personally I think it should be the persons own choice.

good luck finding raw milk dude...i doubt you will find a dairy farmer that will stick his neck out selling it to you...
ya think maybe louis pasteur was on to something when he started pastuerizing milk?...i believe all that means is the milk is held at a certain temperature for a specified amount of time...
the closest you are gonna get to raw milk from a retailer is organic milk...

Nowt wrong wi it.

I used to work for this old farmer, he supped the stuff all his life and died in his 80's (nothin to do wi the milk)

there s risk in everything we eat. "raw" milk as u call it, tastes better then pasturized

It should be if that person also doesn't mind footing the $15,000 bill if they catch some horrible parasite or infection and need hospitalization for two weeks.

Parasite? I was raised on a dairy farm and been in the business for over 15 years myself and have drank out of the milk tank. The last time I went to the doctor was around 7 years ago because i hurt my foot..No you can't go out and buy raw milk just anywhere, but in my oppinion it is not bad for you. The milk you buy in stores is atleast half water.... Enjoy

i know that one of the large grocery store chains is now carrying raw milk cheese. also alot of the food distriburtors are now carrying. i see nothing wrong with it and the taste seems to be stronger and more destinguished. mind you im one for "old" cheese the less moister the better!

The reason milk has been pasteurized is because refrigeration technique was sketchy, now refrigeration is pretty perfect, so, I think it should be up to the consumer.......humans are the only animals that WILLINGLY DRINK MILK FROM ANOTHER ANIMAL......I would much rather buy another woman's breast milk to drink, now if you think that is sick.....it just shows how screwed up humans are.....

I think if you have drank raw milk all your life your bodies system has become immuned to the milk other wise there would be alot of us country folks that would be quite sick.

Now on the other hand if you have never had raw milk in your life and your older I don't think it would be a good thing to take up.

Milk straight from the cow is actually in the purist and most bacteria free form it will ever be as long as your cows are healthy but thats just my take on it I'm still alive

I used to buy raw milk from this guy who had a farm. He would personally deliver it to me in a big glass jug, then deliver more and I'd trade jugs. It was delicious. I never got sick at all.

But now I rarely if ever drink cows milk. I'll enjoy soymilk if I have a bowl of cereal, or once in a while cows milk with the cereal. Not even cows drink cows milk.

But the risk increases quite a bit when the milk is mixed from many sources. What's fairly safe for an old farmer isn't the same when you buy the milk from a big processor.

There are two processes that happen to milk before it hits the market, in California you can get milk that has just been pasturized. While I would prefer raw milk, homogenization is worse. Milk is homogenized to prevent the milk from separating and increases shelf life.

Pasturization heat the milk to destroy bacteria. Homogenization is what I object to. Under pressure of 2500 pounds per square inch, at a speed of 600 feet per second, milk is passed through pipes and fine filters. This breaks up the fat particles and puts them in suspension like a foggy mist. The homogenized process encapsulates Xo into tiny fatty substances called liposomes. This protects Xo from stomach acids and allows it to pass through the intestinal walls and into the circulatory system.

Since it's introduction in 1932, we have seen an definitive upswing in atherosclerotic damage. The liposomes pass into the bloodstream without being broken down in the liver. It destroys plasmogen.

Raw Milk is better for you. Getting it is another matter.

There are so many fallacies about raw milk. As long as the cows are tested for disease and parasites (which almost all farms do) there is nothing wrong with raw milk! Storage of dairy has also come a long way, with stainless steel tanks and speed of bottling there really is no issues as to health concerns. I'm more concerned about the homogenized watered down junk they call milk in the grocery stores.

In addition to the facts about homogenizing stated above, milk production from most "Big Dairy" farmers are full of antibiotics and estrogen that they pump the cows full of to produce more milk, which we ingest. (An average cow used to produce approx 200 lbs of milk a year, cows that are pumped up with all of these hormones now produce 3000lbs of milk a year!) It's no wonder there are girls starting to menstruate as early as 9 years old, it all of the hormones that are passed on from the milk of the cows. Stick with raw organic milk. It's out there; you just have to find it.

When I used to work on dairy farm we used to drink straight from the tank. I would drink raw milk. And I agree some of the milk we can buy in the store is just watered down. I think alot of the nutrients are lost. I wonder how Skimmed compares to Homo in nutrients. I also think some brands taste better.

I grew up on a 2000 acre dairy ranch. I love milk direct from the teat into the face. It is the most satisfying. The cats loved it as much as us kids did. we were all lined up for our turn.

Raw milk tastes like milk. the cream on top is real cream and is really good.

Homemade butter and cheese from raw milk can not be topped by anything bought in a store.

I cant stand going to a store to buy foods. they all taste wrong.

We had an acre garden, orchard and canned everything and froze the rest. We butchered a steer, 2 hogs and a hundred chickens every year that we had raised so we knew exactly how fresh and clean the meat was.

Us kids thrived on the raw milk from our own cow. i feel sorry for people who have never had raw milk. Anyone can pasturize milk.

I grew up on a farm, had some dairy cattle, love raw milk. Can't get it around here. The farms don't want to risk it.

Nothing wrong with raw milk. You are probably getting more nutrition from milk straight off the teat as well. The risk of fresh milk being contaminated is very low, as long as it is fresh.
The pasturization and packaing has more to do with making it safer for transport from a farm in ? to your store who knows how far away. Between the cow and your table, milk gets handled and pumped through a storage tank, a truck, antoher storage tank the packaging process, another truck. All this handling is where 99.9% of the risk of contamination comes from.

I can't drink it; some dairy farmers still use penicillin in their cows - which I'm allergic to; the last time I had it, it was just a sip (it wasn't much, I was only 6 at the time), but it made my very, very sick. I was one lucky little boy.

So to those that can drink it...I envy you. I still can't drink it outright, though, it needs to be diluted. But I can cook with it, and that's all that matters :P
