Stole this from a post from *Tee*,(thankyou *Tee*) made me stop and think. It's actually a quote from Dr Phil, and it has me pondering.......So what's the answer???

Being right makes me happy. How would I be happy if I am wrong?

If you are never willing to concede to another's point of view, you will never be happy. I wouldn't allow someone to make me a door mat, but I will sit and reason with someone or be reasoned with to settle something. At the end of the day, I want to be happy.

I've learned the hard way to choose "happy".

Just a note (I need to be right!) that although Dr. Phil has used it, the "Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy" question pre-dates Dr. Phil.

Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.

It's taken me a lot of work, but it's easier being happy than right.

Happy's a nice place to be. I have the terrible habbit of not being able to drop a point if I'm sure I'm right...gets me into a lot of trouble. I've been working on it though, and happy comes along more often now.

One downside is, give it up too often (being right that is), and you end up, as previously stated, a doormat. I startede letting little points go rather then arguing, and looky looky, I'm now single because I got tired of conceiding the point.

HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY. Who wants to be right all the time, and more importantly who wants be BE with someone who is right all the time. Being right is different for everyone. What I think is right may not be what someone else thinks is right. So compromise to be right, then your HAPPY.

Happy of course. Everyone doesn't have to share my point of view or agree with me on everything. I believe in live and let live. If it doesn't affect my life directly, I don't care really. : )

When I was young, it was all about being right.

Now, with some accumulated experience and wisdom, being happy is far more important.

I am wrong more often than not lately...does this mean I am happy? Oh good. So this is happy...I was wondering what it was like...

That will work out nicely then; when you are wrong about spinsterhood, you'll be even happier!

The need to be acknowledged as right implies an awful lot of ego. Depending on what it is I'm supposed to be right about, I usually prefer to let him think he's right, yet all the while moving things in a certain direction.

^^^ isn't that condescending, manipulative and dishonest (not that those are necessarily bad)?

^^Not unless this is what was trying to be accomplished in the first place? Certainly it wasn't what I was really implying at all. I always like win/win situations and work for this to be the end result. It has proven to be successful most of the time. Really, the question from the OP or I should say Dr. Phil, leaves no room for compromise. I don’t spend too much time reading Dr. Phil :)

'Right' and 'wrong' are a matter of opinion, happy and sad are matters of emotion. Emotions always change, but opinions do not necessarily always change. I personally would rather be secure in the knowledge that I am correct than happy, because sooner or later, I *will* be happy if I just wait. Being 'right' won't happen without my effort, thus making it rewarding enough to pursue even at the expense of my enjoyment.
