| sound card problem Posted: 12/28/2006 3:22:15 PM | i have a friend that had to take a downgrade on a pc. and now has to use win 98'. when she trys to listen to mp3's she has created there is no sound. i have exausted all avenues to get the driver. but the sound driver isnt even showing. and ive run out of ideas to find the driver. is there a tool that will detect what driver it needs or maybe a program that will deect what company the device is. she says its a yamaha sound device. but im not sure as she lives a distance away from me.
any help would be greatly apreciated. | |

| sound card problem Posted: 12/28/2006 4:27:09 PM | no sound just for mp3? or for everything? if she has directX installed, she can use it to troubleshoot sound problems.
if there is no sound only for her mp3, then it's not the driver. she may want to dowload VLC media player. and I am not joking but if she is missing few or many codecs, she can download Gspot. it's a really good program.......
that's it I guess. | |

| sound card problem Posted: 12/28/2006 6:44:53 PM | | Get the Numbers directly off of the soundcard chipset like (Yamaha YMF724 PCI) and search for a Driver using that number and OS (98SE XP) which ever operating system it is. | |

| sound card problem Posted: 12/29/2006 5:42:42 AM | | If the sound card is NOT showing up in the device manager then it may be a defective card. Replacements are cheap - I sell a PCI sound card in my shop for $29. CDN. | |

| sound card problem Posted: 1/1/2007 8:02:18 PM | | worst case scenario, have her open the can and take the information ( serial #, model #) directly off of her sound card. that should remove any mystery instantly , and the manufacturer would more than likely have the driver on their web support page.if she does this make sure the computers plugged into the wall, but turned off , and at the very least she makes contact with her arm on the case for a ground before touching anything.if the comp is not running , there is no risk of electrical shock. | |
