The 'do you have msn' question.

Why do people ask this as soon as they start talking to you? Is it just me, or does anyone else feel that if someone wants your msn address, they need to intrigue you, make you want to talk to them BEFORE you give it to them?

Well, I think it's the easiest way to talk to someone and get to know them a bit, so I usually like to move onto there right away. I definitely prefer a conversation to a monologue, so I'd much rather MSN than email back and forth.

I really don't get this...its no big deal to me, I give out my msn address and if I don't like the person, I either don't talk to them or just delete/block them all together, what's the big deal

I don't offer it quickly, though I generally don't have a problem sharing it. If it's someone I want to talk to, msn is required. Can't do it here. I'm online most of the day at work, but the network barely gives me forum access and almost never gives me email access. 99% of the time, I can't get into my profile or mail, and I can NEVER reply.

I don't get that.

Usually they ask "do you have an STD?". I mean I'm pretty L33T and not a n00b when it comes to 'puter chat stuff... but I've never heard of this STD messenger system... anyone?

Funny.... I just had this discussion with my g/f the other day... we decided there wasn't a whole lot to it... Some people prefer MSN cause it's easier to exchange a lot of info and "Chat" than on PoF email.

I thought it strange too at first. But I've actually started asking for... or volunteering my msn.

If the person is a creep... it's going to come out eventually anyways. MSN will just make it faster!!! And you can always block/delete if you don't want to talk.

Well, being as I live in the toolies and dialup (I know, I know) is all I have, the IM feature here is a no-go. Real time convo beats email tag any time.

Ok, I forgot about the dial-up and IM thing being incompatible. But when you can an e-mail from someone that has nothing personal to it, just a 'hey, how you doing, do you have msn?' and their profile really doesn't have a lot to it, what is there to talk about? I still stand by the 'if you want me to talk to you, give me something I can talk to you about' standard.

What's the big deal about it? If someone annoys you after you gave it to him, you block him/her!

It's MUCH easier to block someone then to change phone number!

Some folks make it sounds like MSN is dirty or something!

I don't rush into the msn asking thing first nope nope. I would first have to get a reply from an email message I sent to someone. Even then a few email's WOULD lol get tossed back and forth before the old DO YOU GOTS THE MSN THINGY lmao

If someone wants my msn and I don't know who they are, they get the third degree. I've dealt with the messenger spam and viruses and don't need it. Nor do I need to add anyone I won't talk to. Without AT LEAST part of an interesting conversation, I don't give it out, but it doesn't really take much for me to be willing.

Cdngrl LOVES MSN - it has no minimum word requirements ;)

It's one of the most annoying questions on here! What do I want with a bunch of contacts that I don't know and don't want to have contact with?

It's like people are trying to build up a gigantic contact list or something.

Just counted.....I have 7 on mine and that includes my ex-husband (for my daughter...they talk on webcam sometimes)

Someone asked me that question lastnight..on first contact..then he asked me well when can I see you. That creeped me out, I didn't even reply back. I'm so new to the internet dating world!!! I would also like to email back and forth for awhile, then if I think the guy deserves to have my MSN I will gladly give it to him

I admit that at first it did bug me that people wanted my MSN addy, and then I started to turn around and ask them for it. My MSN is always up, and it is easier for people to contact me through it. I have pictures on my page, and a web cam, so if the person is concerned about my looks, they can see me for who I am...and visa versa.

I like MSN as well for ease of use and the ability to carry on a conversation without waiting for email responses. That and the fact that my kids don't question it the way they would if I was chatting away on POF! LOL!! Imagine that....the kids questioning me...gotta luv 'em...!

That doesn't mean to say that if the other person is more inclined to exchange a few emails first, I won't respect that, because I do.

I don't mind giving my addy, but if you ask for it and I give it to you...DAMMIT USE IT...Message me. That's what you got the goddamn thing for. If you are just going to use my addy as a trophy or a notch, then take me off your messenger. I will not delete who I gave my addy to, since they are the ones who asked for it...that'd be kinda rude.

I would hate getting that question in the first email or two.

I used to add everyone that asked for it, and ended up with a ridiculous amount of people on MSN - only to not remember who half of them were when they messaged me out of the blue.

I prefer to keep it just to people that I know and/or talk to. I dont have any issue with giving it to people that I already know.

I have an msn account but I dont use it and I don't like chatting. Its really time consuming! I am on and off my computer all day if I am home so I am not constantly on-line and I dont have time to chat at work. My goal is to stay off the computer as much as possible!

I'm with Tacitta on this one...it annoys the hell out of me when that's one of the first things a guy asks.
The reason it ticks me off is that I learned real quick that a LOT of guys turn into pervs the minute they get on MSN...have had it happen too many times....you'll send a few e-mails or messages back and forth and he's a decent guy...then get him on MSN and it's instant dirty talk. So now I'm pretty leary about strangers asking for my MSN, whether their intentions are good or not.

Unless I know someone pretty well I don't give out my MSN. People who are in a big hurry to chat on it seem to be the ones that are in a big hurry for an 'instant' relationship or they want to talk dirty. No thanks.
