| Bell Telephone System Sounds of the 1970s & More (=•_•=) Posted: 1/11/2007 4:04:19 PM | About a year ago, I was feeling nostalgic for the sounds of the old phone system I remember as a kid. So, after doing some searching I found a site that had all I was hoping to find and more. If this site is new to you, try listening to the selections listed below as a start. The last 4 are more for entertainment than historical preservation.

As a kid, I did some phone phreaking. About the age of 12, I made a pulse phone dialer out of a Morse code key and radio parts for the rest of the phone (lucky me, I had a phone outlet in my room). I used to like to call long distance information (which was free back then) just to make distant contacts. Getting the number for WWVH in Hawaii was a particular favorite. Anyone else out there ever play with the phone system back in the days of the Blue Boxes and Cap'n Crunch whistles? | |
