Ask A Girl and Ask A Guy forumsPage 1 of 1
I noticed today in the "ask a guy" forum that a certain female member was putting responces in multiple threads

when looking further, realised that there are ALOT of replies from women in these threads.

Is it possible to put something in the script that does not allow a female user to post replies (unless they were the thread creator) in this forum section.. and the same for males in the "ask a girl" forums.

It may not be a big issue.. however my belief is that people go to the other sex for specific answers or advice from the opposite sex (hence why the post was not in an open forum like "relationships" etc.. and to have a post responded by the same sex eleviates the point of them posting in that forum in the 1st place.

thanks guys.. doing a great job btw.. it just keeps getting better

From the site rule book....below

Posting:

A) No *Thread may exist designated exclusively for Response from a specific Gender, Ethnicity, Orientation, Religion, Public, etc. Such a Thread will be deleted. The entire Concept of a *Forum is for anyone to post their Opinions and Thoughts, providing they are On-Topic, on any Threads he or she sees fit.

As an Example:

...This is a Question ONLY for the Men to... = No Good!!!

...This is a Question for the Men to... = Is OK!!!

Further, any Threads or *Topics that cause a similar Type of Polarization may also come under Review on a Case by Case Basis .

Related issue: Only guys can ask post threads in the "Ask a Girl" forum, and only girls can post threads in "Ask a Guy" forum.

As noted above anyone can post a response to Global Forums, male or female. The only contentious issue in posting would be travellers who monopolize Local Forums a trend that is being dealt with.

The most recent change in the Ask a Girl/Guy Forum.

Girls ask guys and guys ask girls questions in the opening posting but still any gender may reply to the OP's question.

Best of Luck.

cheers for that..
you know what i only skim read the rules yesterday before i made this post and due to that did not get the correct interpretation.. after i wrote this post i re-read it understood it (as you just exlplained).

I am however still confused on why such forums would exist if everyone and anyone can reply to posts in these particular ones.. as i reflected in my original post.. wouldn't it be a safe assumtion that when you post in such a forum that you are expecting answers from the other sex in regards to your questions etc?

im not trying to be rude about this or anything nor am i being argumentative.. just does kinda sound like there is no real point in having them if they are global, and thats why i started this post as a legit question/suggetion/concern.

btw how would you define a traveller? i understand what you mentioned above about monopolozation.. im just confused by what the difference on these forums would be in regards to a "traveller" and a person who sees alot of topics at 1 given time that they believe they could put an answer/encouragement torwards etc..
eg.. i might go to "ask a guy" and see the topics, and out of the big list showing might see say 12 that interest me in looking at.. then out of that may find that there may be 5 that i feel i could contribute to.. then may do the same in "relationships" etc... I am sharing this because i do like to go to a few of the forums to see what topics are going on.. most of the time i would not click on any topics because the topics subjects show me that i may not have any knowledge of etc.. however because i may say find 10-15 topics in a given day that i could reply to.. does this come under the defenition of being a traveller?

This is asked because i do not intend to monopolize any forums, nor do i wish to break any rules or regulations.. however in most cases want to encourage and help others with a responce (if i have one eg. .im not one of those people who just post for the sake of having an input)

i probably wont respond to your reply,l because i realised today also, that no forums can just have a discussion between 2 people (something along those lines) but please be assured i will read it..

appreciate your reply

You can't design any thread to be "polarized".
No forum section. Including "Ask a".
All threads are open to response from anyone.
Global forums, that is. Local forums are for the locals.

btw how would you define a traveller?

I believe the term comes from use of the various local
forums, pertaining to a person or persons who live in one
area, yet post in the local forums of others.

How about:

(just like in the Profile Review forum, and for the same reasoning)

just one thread per customer, in the Ask a Guy / Ask a Girl forums?

btw, I really would like the "Ask a Girl" title to be more politically correct, as "Ask a Gal".

I wish this issue was revisited. I am sick of women coming into Ask A Guy forum and ripping on guys for stating their opinion.

I have seen multitudes of valid and valuable responses in both Ask a Guy & Ask a Girl by those of the opposite gender.

I was looking to start a thread on asking for the opposite. I think it's silly that a guy can't ask a guy a question in the 'ask a guy' forum (and vice versa for women).

Why would I not be able to ask a guys opinion on some topics?

Why would I not be able to ask a guys opinion on some topics?

The entire Intent of these (2) two Forum Categories is to get Opinions, Viewpoints and Answers from the other Side. Designed to assist the opposite Sex to attain more Knowledge, learn current Conventions, Trends and Acceptabilities about Dating, Conduct, Customs and anything along that Line to understand each other better. In the final Analysis, one can review his own Ways, change Approaches and charter new Courses ...

Anyone may respond to any Thread in either Category, but the Nature of the Thread Topic has to Query the opposite Sex.

Further, you cannot be prevented from creating a new Thread to pose a Question for the same Sex, just not in either the Ask A Guy or Ask A Girl Forums. They just do not belong there.

By all Means, make a new non-redundant Thread in any of the appropriate & applicable Forums and ask a Question of the Men. Women may respond too, but you are free to ask of the same Gender, just not to the Exclusion of anyone else.

Related Links:Forums: Polarization & Forum Categories
Forums: Anybody ask Anybody = Chatroom

What constitutes Polarization is "Exclusion", and Exclusion does not only encompass Sexes, but any Group or Public of Individuals, meaning you cannot request anyone to not post in your Thread.

    Examples of No-No's:

  • Catholics and Mormons need not reply.

  • I only want truthful Answers from real Lawyers.

  • I ask that the Elderly not post here because you are not current on ...

  • This Thread is not a Playground for colored Girls, as I know ...

  • If you are a MacIntosh-Phobe, don't post here !!!

  • New Line of Ford Trucks - WOW. Chevy Trolls stay out !

  • You don't like my Recipe, then make your own Thread what you like.

  • Free Enterprise. Gov't Shleps have no Business in here.

  • If you haven't been in the Slammer, what are you doing posting ...?

The Common Denominator is:

"You are not Welcome", "Don't post here", "Get Out" ... ie. Exclusion.

Underlying "Exclusion" is Discrimination and Intolerance of other Opinions.

If allowed, this would bring about "Clique Corners" and other esoteric Elements, Biases, Flame Wars and would contravene the very 'Heart & Soul' that defines a Forum ... An Online Community where Visitors may read and post Topics of common Interest,
providing a Variety of Forums, in which Participants can exchange open Messages.

my understanding is that "roadtrippers" are only troublesome if they in fact monopolize and otherwise create havoc in various Local Forums other than their own. If they create havoc in their own local , they get dealt with there too but are not considered to be roadtrippers or travellers.
It is my understanding that "anyone " can post "anywhere" as long as they observe the general rules of posting.
We have several regular posters in the Canada, New Brunswick forums who are from away and there hasn't been an issue with "outsiders" posting as long as they follow the rules. Those who travel from Forum Local to Forum Local just to "stir the pot" get noticed by the mods very quickly and dealt with accordingly, from my observations.

As for the OP's question...if the category is Ask a Guy and women post replies and you are not interested in what they have to say, simply skip over their post.

Edit:.. comment/question on Tickets last post....

When creating threads that ask gender specific questions to same sex respondents, they need to be in the correct forums as per subject of the question....yes? I know , it seems like the answer should be obvious but it isn't always obvious to everybody.

No. Not in the Local Forums. Occasional Posts are OK.

Best explained here:Local Forums: Voting Off Threads

Correct, same as any other Thread.

Odd topic to OP but directly related to Ticket's last response...

No. Not in the Local Forums. Occasional Posts are OK.

I am understanding that this means I cannot become a regular poster in , say the Nova Scotia Forums or that someone from Nova Scotia cannot be a regular poster in the New Brunswick Forums, even if we are not causing trouble or voting to delete local threads.

Have I understood this correctly?...roadtrippers are not just troublemakers from away... they are everybody from away?

[=Correct / Ticketoride]

Sorry to seem obtuse .. just hoping for clarification.

I agree that allowing both sexes to answer questions in either forum makes for a valuable exchange of ideas. However, there are some (of both sexes) that immediately jump on any new thread that happens to pass by. There are several threads in 'Ask a Guy' where the first 8 to 10 responses are from women. I'd say that may not be what a thread initiator would desire. They want to ask something of men and get a heap of women responding (same thing happens at times over in the 'Ask a Girl' forum as well, so I'm not being a gender basher). I mean, why post in 'Ask a Guy' if you immediately get inundated with responses from women?
[ ... will keep an Eye on it / Ticketoride]
I'd suggest, if it is even possible, that the first 10 replies (an arbitrary number) should be limited to the members of the sex being asked the question. Then allow everyone else to jump in. At least give the OP a chance to get responses from the sex being asked the question before being buried by the usual mayhem. Just a thought and probably not workable, but it might be something to consider.
[ Too many such Replies would make the Thread itself Off-Topic for that Forum Category anyways / Ticketoride]

Hmm,,im not sure i understand your answer. Why would it be off-topic?

I do agree with the above poster tho his suggestion that the first 10 replies in both the Girl/Guy forum should be for the gender being asked. Ask a Girl,,,,,first 10 replies should be from the women, and then both after that. Ask a Guy....first 10 posts should be from the men,and then both after that.

I do understand POF's rule that either gender may respond in either forum, but it really defeats the purpose of those Guy/Girl forums.

Just my thoughts!

sorry but I disagree. The majority of the questions should of been posed in another forum to begin with and so many times the sex has as good or often better advice then the gender supposedly being posted to.

I would love to see GAG ( that would be guy ask guy or girl ask girl) without the other sex being allowed in

I think that GAG (Girl ask Guy/Guy Ask Girl) should really be available for responses from the opposite sex.

A man cannot (thankfully) think like a woman, therefore should not try to answer for a woman.

So far, this is my only disappointment with POF. But it is FREE!
