| | POF gatherings in Saskatchewan, any suggestions?Page 1 of 2 (1, 2) | I thought this may be a good topic to get more suggestions as to what you like to do, socially, in groups of the pof capacity....
As I mentioned in 'just wondering' many people like to do different things, so in retrospect, lets take a look at these options and get some ideas of what the 'not a bar go~er' types are interested in doing???
I think that in Saskatoon, the Cue was originally suggested as a multi facility for those who like to dance, drink, and shoot pool. This was also a good lounge~type facility so that people can also have a conversation privately or within a group being it is a large building. I don't think that by any means there was a conspiracy to disinclude those who do not so much enjoy the bar scene, I think that there are honorable intentions as to try and conglomerate a group of singles in a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere (as Al at the Cue has done for the toon fishies).
Now....... I have some ideas of things that I would be interested in doing with a bunch of strangers and friends from pof, or in general: 1. Brunch, lunch, or supper, not necessarily at a bar or lounge, but a banquet~type facility in which we could maybe have some ice breakers or crappy speeches n stuff ( mean crappy in the nicest possible form, as in funny, silly, crazy introductory kind) 2. Glow bowling 3. Ice-skating or roller-skating.... a little old fashioned roller-skating at the roller rink would be a nice re-visit to our childhood, no? This could also be a family activity, those with children could meet other people with children and there is no awkward wonderment if you there is no connection between two people because its on a large scale.... as a single mom that seems to be one of the major hesitations for me, and I know I'm not the only single parent on this site..... 4. And perhaps a good ol round robin of chocolate pudding mud wrestling that sure would be interesting.....
I have a few others but I'd like to leave this open to see what others may have in mind..... I know that living a few hours from Saskatoon and Regina it is hard for me to get to the city for most functions, that maybe we could get together for a meet in the smaller communities even? I know my little town has an outdoor rink and a bowling alley~ they may not be as classy as the city, but there ain't nuttin wrong with letting loose country style sometimes
I look forward to reading everyone's suggestions

| POF gatherings in Saskatchewan, any suggestions? Posted: 1/22/2007 9:49:48 AM | Hey shortybee this is exactly what I was talking about in "just wondering" I think this is a great idea! But what and where is the question? I know in Moosejaw there is a park called Wakamow that has skating and an outdoor facility with tables and even a outdoor barbque don't know much else about it but that might be something to look into. I'm not sure where your from shortybee maybe there is something similiar in your area. We could have good old fashioned fun for everyone!!! | |

| POF gatherings in Saskatchewan, any suggestions? Posted: 1/22/2007 11:37:07 AM | Back about 8 years ago contempary singles did a lot of gatherings for its members and other groups also we had slow pitch ball with no score cards so every one could play, for about 5 years we played twice a week, we had volleyball in the winter months same idea co ed and just having fun, pot luck suppers on a monthly time table were popular. we had card nites ,and movie nites and all it was just a email or phone call saying were going to a movie sat nite and coffee after wards . not every thing should involve boozeand maybe some people would like to involve there children. i my self drink very little would love to do other things without booze involved. i still have friends from contempary singles in which we still have gathering now and then the biggest problem is its always the same people runnig them and it s hard getting other people to help last saturday i made a thread i was going to a movie and was deleted cause i was fishing or someting like that. i didnt say there were 4 of us going and if someone wanted to join us they could ( i worded it wrong ) we had fun and went for a coffee after words Here are some ideas maybe someone can take them and get the ball rolling. | |

| POF gatherings in Saskatchewan, any suggestions? Posted: 1/22/2007 12:31:31 PM | I would love to host a potluck for POF and their families(if that is a popular idea). Maybe someone is good at organizing games etc. The problem is a venue that we can use that does not cost us money..... (POF rules). If any of you know of such a place message me and I will gitterdun. | |

| POF gatherings in Saskatchewan, any suggestions? Posted: 1/22/2007 7:21:16 PM | I agree that any functions made should try to take people with children into consideration. I think some POF members here can't attend some of these functions because of finding babysitters or don't have the funds at present. Several reasons, but then again. Who knows.....Maybe some POF members don't want to bring their kids to functions because they need a break and escape the kids for a night.
So many factors, so many decisions. Set up a dance night at a local dance hall rather than some bar or lounge?

| POF gatherings in Saskatchewan, any suggestions? Posted: 1/22/2007 7:58:47 PM | Good calls fishies.... I'll look into see what I can come up with, but I'd be making some kind of arrangements in Yorkton or close to.....
As far as my personal opinion about bringing my child to functions.... Kids are the single best judge of character, I'd never want to hook up with someone who did not absolutely adore my son cuz he is a hoot n holler.... kids see right through the bull$hit maybe I'm doing this all wrong? perhaps I should be sending my son on dates to screen the men

| POF gatherings in Saskatchewan, any suggestions? Posted: 1/22/2007 9:45:49 PM | Shortybee you have great suggestions ... I think that it would be good if we could maybe have meets outside the Broken Cue for those who dont wanna go to bars and drink... go bowling would be fun.. however most of us hang out just not at pof functions and do this sorta things .. but would for sure like to include more friends from here ... let me know what can come up with...
Lol about son on dates to screen the men..lmao thats cute...

Posted: 1/23/2007 12:58:08 AM | well i know that horsin and i have been working on ideas for other social events so that it doesnt have to be the drinking thing but in order for it to not cost it probably will have to be held outdoors . but i am trying to come up with some more family orientated functions as i would love to meet what makes these great fishies i know so awesome .
Children are our future lets cherish them
pudding wrestling .........hmmmm .....now is that for the adults or the kids .... cause either way it would be fun

| POF gatherings in Saskatchewan, any suggestions? Posted: 1/23/2007 6:57:49 AM | In the summer, something like a potluck BBQ might be fun, and family friendly. The Forestry Farm has a really nice BBQ area. You don't have to pay an entrance fee to enter the park area, but there is a $2 parking fee. (At least that's what it has been the past couple of years.) Everyone could BYOM and a big side dish to share.
Could something similar be done at a lake? Maybe a camping weekend? Of course that would include campground fees, but you'd have to pay those whether or not you camped with the group or anywhere else. And this way, no one would have to drive home. I've done something like this for the casino I used to work for. We had an area for the rowdies and one for the families.
I could host a big get together in the summer. My sis has a big old farmyard with nothing but space and a few outbuildings, (oh and some berry bushes). But you all would have to bring everything, (BBQ's, coolers, tent shelters, games, etc...) It's about a 20 minute drive NE of Saskatoon. It could be lots of fun!
I'm not really comfortable in a bar or lounge unless I know people. I really like the idea of getting to meet everyone, though.
I used to organize lots of social activities for the people who I supervised, but it's going to be pretty difficult to find things that don't charge a fee. Is it that you can't charge a fee to make a profit off these get togethers or that you can't even cover your costs?
Edit: Oops! I just realized I'd have to rent a couple of porta-potties, too, if I held the BBQ at the farm. Anyone know where I can get a good deal?

| POF gatherings in Saskatchewan, any suggestions? Posted: 1/23/2007 7:20:48 AM | Way to go fishies!! Thats the spirit!! Great to hear all the ideas! shortybee look what you've started! and the part about getting the kids to screen the guys... isn't that bad either. | |
|
| POF gatherings in Saskatchewan, any suggestions? Posted: 1/23/2007 7:25:31 AM | | Calluna....I think that is a great plan.....and to heck with port-a-potties. Has nobody heard of peeing in the bush? Oops I guess we weren't all raised on the farm...but I'm sure some of you remember 'bush parties'. | |
|
| POF gatherings in Saskatchewan, any suggestions? Posted: 1/23/2007 2:20:37 PM | I thought of one more thing.........
How about an afternoon of tobogganing? I know of a really good hill out by Vonda. Everyone just needs to bring their crazy carpet and a thermos of hot chocolate. And it would be really fun to have a couple of big, tractor inner tubes!
|
| POF gatherings in Saskatchewan, any suggestions? Posted: 1/23/2007 4:24:23 PM | Here's an idea that doesn't really apply to me. But some people mentioned kids.
For those with kids, maybe a "family" afternoon at a park or something, featuring kids activities, would be a good idea?
|
| POF gatherings in Saskatchewan, any suggestions? Posted: 1/23/2007 8:36:07 PM | Well I know myself, I have NO idea what Polly is talking about with these... what did you call them 'bush' parties Well, whatever she's talking about....
And yes Gemi, I can sometimes start stuff.... that's the fantastic thing bout bein little..... you can be a s**t disturber and everyone leaves you alone cuz they won't fight the little one
I think an afternoon in the park sounds fantastic, I know there's a great place by Prince Albert, little Red, that is great for things like this.... not sure what there is round this southern part of the province as I am a newbie to this section of SASK.... but the little man would be excited to take his new snowboard on a real hill I'm gonna look into that, perhaps for February..... But with the new laws n such bout toboganning with a helmet, make sure y'all pack yer helmets eh
Thanks for everyone getting so involved in this forum, makes a girl feel kinda funny inside
you know, like when we used to climb the ropes in gym class

Just want things to be like the ole days of "Courtin'"...... i love some of the ideas that some of you have come up with
there is a tobogan hill beside the circle drive bridge that we could have a get together at or the skating thingy at bessborough park is another suggestion i will make ... I hope that helps you fine fishies out there

| POF gatherings in Saskatchewan, any suggestions? Posted: 1/24/2007 12:11:47 AM | Get ideas out there fishies and including the kids is also a good idea .. only thing my kids are all growed up and gone so would have to bring my grandkids instead of course along with my kids as well. A good way to get the olders kiddies out and doing something for a change and meeting all you great people. Maybe I might even find someone I will approve of for my oldest daughter who is single..LOL...
Toboganning at Mount Pleasant or out by the airport, skating at many of the outdoor rinks or even on Wascana Lake, winter hay rides and in the summer picnics in Wascana Park or out at Sherwood Park or even getting together at the beach for some fun in the sun. Regina Beach being the closet here - not sure what is around Moose Jaw, Saskatoon or Yorkton. Camping for a weekend is another good idea.
And handy...maybe we can convince missing link to fell his hot tub with puddin and have a rockin good time in Moose Jaw again ... ... think he would go for that...
|
| POF gatherings in Saskatchewan, any suggestions? Posted: 1/24/2007 1:47:11 PM | Oh my hot puddin' wrestlin', in a hot tub........ now that sounds like fun!!!!
we can even peel the top back just like the pre-packaged puddings!
Do not...I repeat................DO NOT TURN THE JETS ON!
The park @ Walkamaw(sp) has lovely BBQ pits... but they must be booked well in advance! There is plenty of parking, and beautiful areas to go check out! There is even a tour boat running in the summer so an evening cruise is possable, but it is a bit on the costly side......... well in my books at least.... speaking of books I best get back to mine...
Lots of GREAT IDEAS here so far folks, lets keep them coming!
