My state is shaped like a body part.
People just point to where we live on our palms.
My state is easily seen from space.
We're the one nearly surrounded by water.
My state has 2 parts .
Upper Peninsula Yoopers and Those Trolls under the bridge.
Many of us are descendent's of miners, trappers, lumberjacks
along with Native Americans, runaway slaves and auto barons.
We're tough - we swim in Lake Superior and grill steaks in the snow.
Gasoline pumps through our veins.
We never walk if we can drive. You won't find subways here or carpool lanes.
I-75 is the artery of life in Michigan
Always on the move to sand dunes, U-pick fruit farms, lighthouses, cabins,
or to the million boats we fire up the engines on to move again.
Michiganders or Michiganians or Michiganite - still up for debate.
What the hell is Opening Day in Michigan..........
Baseball ?, Trout Season ? Auto Show ? Deer Season ??
Music - oooohhhh yeah we know a thing or two about music

Posted: 1/23/2007 9:02:22 PM | Naw, It's "up north" that makes Michigan rock, wherever "up north" is for you, but lets say.for the sake of argument,north of M46?( this may not be accurate information anymore, but at least it USED to be that M46 was regarded as the dividing line between "shotgun only" deer hunting and "rifles permitted" deer hunting.)
UP NORTH
Yep, hunting fishing, lakes, festivals,snow, fall colors, "Mom&Pop" businesses,hiking, riding horses,ORVs,dirtbikes and snowmobiles. Stars so close you'd swear you could just reach up and grab a handful... lighthouses, beaches, waterfalls...
Little hometown restaurants and cafes, smoked whitefish, pasties.
"Ma" Deters sign in Luzerne "This is God's country, don't drive through it like hell!
My town, which is somewhere between Hell and Paradise...

When the Cornish came to the copper mines of the Upper Peninsula,
they brought with them a lot of mining knowledge.
Many Cornish practices were then copied including the pasty as the standard lunch for miners.
The pasty became popular with these other ethnic groups because it was small, portable, was very filling, and could stay warm for 8-10 hours. | |

I think it is you H2O that makes michigan rock. Your calming colors ,blue, aqua, green, almost purple, dark grey almost black on angry days. and Your motion high waves and lack of it on calm days
your seacrets that you hide beneth your waves. Your sounds. Your great in the summer when its hot and you turn to ice in the winter and are sooo cold but we still love you and you sparkle like diamonds in the sun.In your other form we make men out of you and we throw you at each other . Lowest wages, jobs leaving at 1000 a week, unemployment is off the charts, if you factor in all the ones that arent on the roster, because if your not drawing unemployment your considered to be working. It costs as much here to rent comercial space as it does in every big town, the only thing missing is money. I run a small businesss here and this is the last place on earth i would ever start over in. Some days i get 20-30 people in my shop and none can afford a used bicycle. This economy is so shot you just cant beleive it, till you ask people. According to Michigan Government, average wage in Muskegon is 19.50 per hour. Go there. TRY to find a job. ANY job. There arent any. And if you do its 6.25 per hour, and would you like fries with that shake? This town sucks so bad the drug dealers are driving 20 yr old clunkers. Rent of a house should be between 1/4 and 1/3 of your income. Well if you work here you cant live here, cause rent here is beyond stupid. Oh sure its a nice place to visit. that where it ends. the people are all mean and rude, everyone marches around like they have a cob up their azz. I sometimes leave here on business and its like night and day, people elsewhere are usually happy freindly and nice. That ends on ther border. Now Ford has posted a multi billion dollar loss.. Expect more jobs to head to mexico ASAP. pretty sad when the GNP of michigan will soon be soybeans. I could go on all day about this hell hole. all you gotta do is come on in and give the place a try... I75 is full going south 24-7 Going north? your not gonna see any Uhauls i tell ya. | |

I've lived in Belleville, New Jersey, and Hunting Station, Long Island-New York
along with Stratford, Connecticut.
I became hardened with the East Cost traffic, rent, utility fees and cost of living.
Michigan has a number of positive points we tend to forget and take for granted. | |

Roscommon for cross country country skiing,
and Gaylord - Pidgeon River area for backcountry snowshoeing / winter camping.
Not every state gets a full 4 seasons of stuff to play to play in ! | |

If you're proud that your region makes the national news 96 nights each year because Pellston is the coldest spot in the nation, you might live in Michigan.
If your local Dairy Queen is closed from November through March, you might live in Michigan
If you instinctively walk like a penguin for five months out of the year, you might live in Michigan.
If someone in a store offers you assistance, and they don't work there, you might live in Michigan.
If your dad's suntan stops at a line curving around the middle of his forehead, you might live in Michigan.
If you have worn shorts and a coat at the same time, you might live in Michigan.
If your town has an equal number of bars and churches, you might live in Michigan .

1. "Vacation" means going up north on I- 75.
2. You measure distance in hours.
3. You know several people who have hit a deer more than once.
4. You often switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day.
5. You can drive 65 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard, without flinching. (*yes we can and have)
6. You see people wearing camouflage at social events (including weddings).
7. You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked.
8. You carry jumper cables in your car and your girlfriend knows how to use them.
9. You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.
10. Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow
11. You know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction.
12. You can identify a southern or eastern accent.
13. Your idea of creative landscaping is a statue of a deer next to your blue spruce.
14. You were unaware that there is a legal drinking age.
15. Down South to you means Ohio
16. A brat is something you eat.
17. Your neighbor throws a party to celebrate his new pole barn.

For one we have 3 crap holes One being Detroit(Detoilet) second in line is Flint and third is saginaw(sagnasty). If you pay close attention all 3 have a trend going..a few I will share is Unemployment, CRIME, poverty, bad health, DRUGS not the leisure ones either kids. If you live in michigan and donot work in the big 4(ford toyota chrysler or GM) or your not one of the high end paying jobs you are probably living check to check and an alcoholic. I on my piddly wage bought a 4 wheeler to pass time on...But without an ECONOMY thanks to granholm and our traitor for a president Michigan is one of the absoulte Worse states you can be in. And for those who added motown to their list of good things about detroit maybe you should walk down town at 3 am and see how nice it is;). The police have to treat people like criminals in Detroit because MOST of them are ...obviously since the only time you have is to cross dress and walk around Cass corridor at 3am ..maybe you should look at the crime statistics and see that detroit is in the top 5 of most crime ridden Citys...yeah that does include rape and murder, but Im a racist what do I know. Jay I can tell from your post you probably listen to eminem and date black women...even so dont tell people the cops are the problem in Detoilet..you will get a lot of people killed.
