| FEATURE: New POF Feature- Viewed ME and Old Contact List Posted: 1/23/2007 10:28:55 AM | WHoo HOO another feature yet again, That Big Fish is a genious! "LOOK WHO'S VIEWED ME" option allows you to see who has looked at your profile and hasn't bothered to message you! haha don't know if it's a good feature or not! It's a nosey one, I do know that! Now you can see how popular you really are! haha How does everyone feel about people being that nosey and able to see who viewed you? I know it's for your own benefit, I like the idea, but does it have fault? And yes you do have the option to be hidden from viewing ones profile (which is nice as well)
Thanks Big Fish, Lets see how it works!
As an FYI for the people looking for the old "Contact List", it is on the Viewed Me Page
Details: The following is a list of the last 36 people to view your profile. This feature is VERY new and contains data only for the last 24 hours. Eventually we will delete people off this list after 7 days. If you don't want anyone to know you looked at their profile go to mail settings and disable it. You can go here for a list of people you contacted

| New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/23/2007 11:30:40 AM | JMO, but I think it sucks. I think it could lead to a lot of misunderstandings. I personally will view profiles of people who's forum postings intrigue me; not to see them as a possible match, just to get to know more about who and what they are. Or, if someone's got an interesting picture up, I'll view their profile for much the same reason. I also often use friends profiles as links to their latest forum posts, to make sure I'm not missing anything exciting. | |

| New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/23/2007 11:33:29 AM | | Hi, just because someone looks at you doesn't mean a thing, they just looked for whatever reason. If they were interested they'd get in touch..... right? That's one thing that gets me - who should make the initial contact? | |

| New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/23/2007 11:41:18 AM | Here is a significant detail that is missing from this post...
Details: The following is a list of the last 38 people to view your profile. This feature is VERY new and contains data only for the last 24 hours. Eventually we will delete people off this list after 7 days. If you don't want anyone to know you looked at their profile go to mail settings and disable it. You can go here for a list of people you contacted.
I just disabled mine. The reason is simple.
I post in the Forums and sometimes view profiles of posters because I am a bit curious where they live.
The feature could have its uses and only time will tell whether it is worthwhile of not.
JMHO.

| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/23/2007 4:51:20 PM | Personally, I like the feature as long as people don't take it to mean more than it really means. Just because I look at someone's profile doesn't necessarily mean I'm interested in that person, like if I look at a guy's profile. I participate in the forums and sometimes it's necessary to look at a person's profile to understand the context of that person's post. But I can see how some women might not like that feature.
Question for the admins - if I turn off the feature, look at someone's profile, then turn the feauture back on, does my view of that person's profile still get recorded?
[That would probably fall under "proprietary info"/late™]
|
| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/23/2007 4:57:16 PM | Not overly crazy about it. I was abit unnerved to see that over 76 men have viewed my profile in the past 4 hours, and how many are photoless "intimate encounter". I find that a bit creepy. | |
|
| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/23/2007 4:59:00 PM | I myself don't like the idea that you could view the actual user that viewed your profile. I turned that option off because I didn't want all the profiles that I looked at think that I have that kind of interest in them. Now if everyone thought the way I do and all decided to do the same thing and turn it off, then the feature would be useless....I would not mind however, seeing the number of views that my profile had...not the actual user.
Of course this is just my opinion...

[That would probably fall under "proprietary info"/late™] Perhaps I should rephrase that question. Will that person still be able to see that I viewed his/her profile?

and the above is different from your prior phrase ...how?
six of one, half dozen of the other - unless otherwise stated by admin, it's still "proprietary"

| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/23/2007 6:40:35 PM | and the above is different from your prior phrase ...how?
six of one, half dozen of the other - unless otherwise stated by admin, it's still "proprietary" An admin reading that question *could* read it as a question regarding what information this website collects. If collecting that information is proprietary, that's one thing, but that's not the intent of my question.
It wasn't the intention of the answer, the information "collected" is what the feature IS - "viewed me", opt in, or out of the collection - there it is.
The second question is really what I meant and would help the user decide whether or not they want to enable/disable the feature.
The two options, a bypass of the two options - not an option
Understand?
See above | |
|
| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/23/2007 6:48:50 PM | the answer covered both intents - if it's not disclosed by admin, and until such time, be it how a feature works or what info is collected by the site - consider the answer proprietary.
Clear now?
EDIT: or approved to be released by Moderators as well.

| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/23/2007 7:42:03 PM | I can see this feature will be another one with ambiguous interpretations, like the 'favs'.
"Wow! She's cute! She must be interested because she viewed my profile."
"Why is a Guy checking out my profile?"
...And of course, the mods can expect the latest redundant threads to be titled,
"Viewed my profile but didn't message me?"
The roses are brilliant, This feature is as useful as a trapdoor in a rowboat, IMHO.
:EDIT:Nice catch! Thanks, Moment!

| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/23/2007 8:17:41 PM | it is rather interesting to have this option and see who has viewed my profile, kinda scary too haha.. i like the idea of having the option to be hidden, due to the same reason discussed before about going to profiles as part of forum reponse activity.
i think the only thing is that you dont know why people looked at your profile (eg was it from the forums, from search etc etc) so that kinda sucks.. however in a positive outlook.. im seeing POF members who have looked at me that i did not know existsed on POF.. so thats not a bad thing (although scary sometimes as mentioned before)

and that's probably the main reason behind the feature - exploration of new frontiers!

| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/23/2007 9:21:00 PM | WHEW! I'm usually really slow on the uptake, but it seems I caught this one when it was just new out the gate!
I have mixed feelings. I was on another dating site that did this. When I realized that the guys I checked out could tell I had been there made me more shy. Now, I've been here for a year and I thought the "shy" was gone. I did write a couple of guys and titled my letters "peekaboo"...you know, I see you??!!
Of course, I realized right away that many who had "peeked" were from forums I had been on...first clue was the lady (I'm a lady). Then, I noticed others I had seen on forums. Cool. No problem. I found one guy (I don't know how he found me) who lived in a town I used to visit when I was a kid. That was cool. Stopped in to say hello...nothing more...just being friendly.
But, now I think my "shy" IS back. Didn't plan on ever going cruisin again...ever. Then I found this thread and know I can zap it. You know how it is. You see something nice. You just wanna look...thats all...and say "my, ain't that nice"...then move on or tap on their door. But you want the option to move on without getting any kind of a reaction.
Peace WS
ps...sent my first rose to a girl friend...felt like she needed and deserved one...thanks.

| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/23/2007 9:31:02 PM | I think this feature is nice. No controversy, it's all good.
I think atleast this gives people an idea of who 'may' be interested and who one may want to contact. So it's a good move.
|
| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/23/2007 11:12:35 PM | I'm having a little problem now...As soon as I noticed the new feature I had made sure that I went to the mail settings and changed it so no one could see that I have looked at their profiles.
Did you remember to click "Update Settings"?
Now...I'm getting email from people that said they saw that I viewed their profiles.
I'm not liking this...no...no...no!

| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/23/2007 11:14:12 PM | I noticed this feature earlier today. I think it's a nice addition. As someone said in another post, it's about accountability for one's actions.
This is a dating site, for those who are here for reasons other than meeting your mate...use it as you will...but I think it's a good indication of who's checking you out. Be it curiosity, reaction to a forum or potential interest.
I was reading the Big Fishes Presswords over the weekend, and his users and stats are important. Active members on the site at any one time gives the site an advantage over many of the other paid dating sites with less active members online. HOWEVER, if most of those are here only for the forums, or have already caught their fish, his numbers don't tell the true story of who's available and how many serious fish he has on his site.
Forum users are a tiny fraction of the user base, the priorty of the site is those here to find a SO.
His intent is to help people find their fish. The forums are wonderful to ask/seek advice or information, but they shouldn't be the only reason someone is here. It's a free service, and you are taking up free resources if you're still here months and years after you have found your fish. You have in all truths, done what Big Fish has given you the opportunity to do...found love...without paying exhorbitant amounts of money for the service.
I will leave the option open for people to see that I've viewed their profile, for whatever purpose. I'm not hiding. My reason for being here is to find my one...even if it means sifting and sorting through tons of profiles to find even the most remote of possibilities.
This feature, and the rose feature, shouldn't be something we argue and discuss for months. The site is not ours, and the owner is offering us two new tools to use. I, for one, like them. Thanks, Big Fish, Dev

| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/24/2007 3:31:27 PM | OOOh!! I have an idea!! Add a time to the views--as in how much time they looked at your profile~~~~did they click to see a picture, or did they stay and read...hehe if you really want to start a riot , that'd be the way to go!! | |
