| Just how 'hidden' is your profile, when you hide it...?
Posted: 1/26/2007 12:07:30 PM | I live in a small town, and like to live a private life..although thats not always possible in a town this size!! lol! I chose to hide my profile for a while, due to the fact, that one of the local past times for the 'locals' is to go on-line, whether you are single, or not, and see who, from town, is on P.O.F!!! I was also getting a few "pervy' mails.
When the new "who viewed your profile' feature was added, I noticed that there were alot of people viewing my "hidden profile".........so...my question is.......how hidden IS your profile..? And maybe it is a redundent feature...?? | |

That must be common in small towns because I encountered someone at my workplace that does the same thing (he's happily married and just goes on POF and other sites to see if he knows anyone, both male and female). He and others then basically gossip about who they see on them. I have since deleted my old account (which had pics) and created this one to go incognito so that I don't get contacted by locals who know me without me realizing it or to be rocognized by locals who go on POF for just that reason. POF shouldn't be a form of entertainment for those not currently looking for someone to date or socialize with from on here, it's just too bad that it's impossible to screen legitimate users from everyone else. | |

I've decided to let people gossip, and stop giving a damn what they say. And if someone makes a snarky comment about me being on this site, I smile and come back with something about wondering how interested their significant other would be to hear that they are lurking around singles sites. Usually shuts 'em up.  | |

Posted: 1/30/2007 5:41:49 AM | One of our terrific moderators told me that if you keep mail in your 'in box', those people can see your profile, even if it is hidden, as well as anyone you have added to your favourites, and anyone that has added you to their favourites, AND anyone that frequents the forums !!! Lol!
therefore it is only hidden form the point of view that it is NOT on the "my match's" page.
I have given up on the whole 'hidden' thing......time to 'not give a toss!'. If the sad, bored and lonely people of my town are THAT desperate for exitement, then I am only too willing to oblige and entertain them!!!!  | |

So when I write in the forums, my profile suddenly becomes "un-hidden" to anyone reading that post? And if so, for how long... I've seen PLENTY of folks - regulars in the forums even - who don't have the "view profile" available. Is there a time frame from when you make the post? How does that work?
Guess I should unhide my profile if being hidden only keeps it from the ones actually possibly looking for a relationship!!! (Even if that means sending out a lot more "thanks for your interest, but..." emails!)
And now some random thoughts, just to see if anyone is listening...
Hey how about an icon with a light bulb above the head? (:good idea:)
How about yellow roses for friendship?
How about I get back to my life now...

Or if someone knows your name, they can just go to their favorites, type in your name so you're added, then they can view it that way too. | |

My advice to anybody who is dating and alarmed that "strangers and randomeothers can still view "... state clearly in your profile that you are not single and not looking...that you are in a relationship ... remove some of the things you were previously seeking and first date items so it is obvious that you are in fact not seeking.

When they are viewing you.. it is certain that they are leaving someone else alone for a few minutes at the very least. | |
