| Euchre - Calgary
Posted: 2/18/2007 2:12:00 PM | Rumor has it some folks are looking for places to play Euchre in Calgary.
Currently through the winter some of us play at Thorncliffe Greenview Community Lounge on Monday nights, start time is 7 PM. (However, not Feb 19th)
The winners from each table stay, the losers move to the next table. Once at the next table the winner's will split and each play with one of the losers coming from the last table. It is all in fun and 7 games are played.
Then once a month (during the winter) some gather on a Saturday at 1:30 PM and start playing at 2. The same format as above, however 10 games are played. The next Saturday's are March 17th & April 14, 2007.

It costs $5, but all money paid in is paid out in 1st, 2nd. etc. If you get Euchre'd it costs you a quarter and the one with the most loner's gets the euchre pot. You get a card at the begining to see what table you sit at, then if you win you stay at that table but switch partners, if you loose you move to the next table and switch partners. We play 10 games on Saturday's.
We will also be playing on Monday night's but we only play 7 games I think. | |

Posted: 9/29/2007 12:20:04 PM | There are several variations of Euchre. The most common being played with the 9 thru Ace, 5 cards are dealt to each of 4 players, and it is a partner game(partner sits across from you), one card is turned up from the undealt cards and that is "trump" if "ordered up", otherwise "trump" is declared by a player and if someone has top cards and think they can get all 5 "tricks", can declare "Alone" , if they get all the "tricks", they score bonus points. Points are tallied and the first team to score 10 points wins.
It is an easy game to learn and play. The Jacks of the same colour are the bowers, and most powerful cards, then 'A' down to 9. In some locals in the U.S., they use down to the 7, making "Alone" hands harder to call.
