| Motorbikes Posted: 2/18/2007 2:21:53 PM | | I seem to see alot of ladies that like motorbikes or have one themselves. A question for the ladies, when did you decide to buy your first bike and why? And any men (that do not ride)but there girls friends, wives etc. have bought one since you meet them. What may them buy one? | |

| Motorbikes Posted: 2/18/2007 3:55:52 PM | sorry I can't address exactly what you ask for BUT I can offer some input. Hope it's okay. My age group +/- 55 to 68. I was just saying to someone the other day WOW you should see all the men in their late 50's and 60's who now own Harley's and a lot of them are retired. Must be a man thing, you know toys et al........ I also see in the forums that a lot of gals are into motorbikes too. I think its cool! Not for me but cool none the less! | |

| Motorbikes Posted: 2/18/2007 3:57:40 PM | | THW the motorbike turn on the cars .... or golf, whatever your preference .... polite ... trying... | |
|
| Motorbikes Posted: 2/18/2007 4:33:54 PM | | now a days toys aren't just for boys.....its good that the women are into 2 or 4 wheel activities, i think (remind you its just what i think) it is empowering to them and by all means good for them. they have adrenaline too and everyone knows that a rush of adrenaline feels great. to me a woman that rides is one not to be reconed with. ta heck with bare foot and pregnant, let 'em ride !!!!! now if only i could meet such a wonderful woman lol just my 2 bits minus taxes | |
|
| Motorbikes Posted: 2/18/2007 6:09:18 PM | i have a question for guys that ride or don't ride....
would you sit on the back of a bike while a female rides??
|
| Motorbikes Posted: 2/18/2007 6:16:22 PM | I have thought about getting myself a bike ever since my neighbour had a nice little white harley and she would get her white tasselled leathers on. She just looked so hot!! Her husband would get on his big black harley and they would go for sunday drives beside each other. Sometimes they'd put the kids on the back and take them along.
I've always only been on the back. Trusting the driver. I don't know that I would want that responsibility of someone else's safety.
I would not want anyone on the back. My guy would have to get his own and ride beside me!!
|
| Motorbikes Posted: 2/18/2007 6:32:20 PM | I too have thought about getting a bike... already have the helmet and leathers (black, no tassels) but if the thing ever fell over I'd never be able to pick it up. I'd have to get some big, strong, hunky guy to pic..... oh hey! Wait a minute! Maybe that's not such a bad idea | |
|
| Motorbikes Posted: 2/18/2007 6:56:23 PM | I think a lot of people, both men and women, buy them when they're older because they can finally AFFORD them both in time and money. A good street bike is worth a lot of money brand new, and it takes a lot of time to learn how to ride, without worrying about dumping them and to really enjoy them.
I bought my first dirt bike when I was about 19, second one at 20, third at 21 and street bike about that time. But my friends all rode and taught me how and I lived in small town, easy to learn to ride. When I moved to big city, I gave it up and sold all my bikes because city drivers are scarey, and they don't see you at the best of times, let alone on a bike. Well, and got into a quieter form of riding...lol..horses...
But I don't think its any different than anything else...people do what they do when they enjoy it, have other people to relate to and can afford it both financially and time wise. Its a great escape, especially for people who have stressful jobs, family lives, etc. Good on them, men or women, no matter what the age....just god don't be one of those people I see in runners and a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. Losing your skin slowly can't be enjoyable...WEAR LEATHER and helmets....

| Motorbikes Posted: 2/18/2007 6:59:44 PM | Motorcycles are over-rated... scooters rulz !!!
BB
Oh... and someone was asking if a chick had a bike, as a guy, would you ride as a passenger. My indirect answer is... if I had a gay friend who was leaving The Roost on his scooter, and offered me a ride home on it as a passenger, I'd say, hell YES !

Anything to cop a feel, eh Shawn?
At least his intentions are all over the forums, so there are no surprises.

Well, you do have to hold on!!
I love being a passenger. I have friends with bikes and take any opportunity to hop on back.
|
| Motorbikes Posted: 2/18/2007 7:53:02 PM | I bought my first bike when I was 19. I don't remember a time when I didn't want a motorcycle, but my father was dead-set against it (for good reasons, I freely admit), so I had to wait until I had a bit of independence.
Why have I always wanted a motorcycle? I think it has something to do with adrenaline. And once I started riding, it got in my blood and it will always be there.
"For those who understand, no explanation is necessary For those who don't understand, no explanation is possible"
sure it's cliche, but it's true

| Motorbikes Posted: 2/18/2007 7:58:14 PM | I actually rode my first motorbike during the summer of 1980.
It was a little two-stroke........had to mix the oil with the petrol..........and with no gas guage I was constantly running out of fuel.
I was hooked.....................right before the separation, I was all set to get my licence, then it was put on the back burner.
I can honestly say that if one has not ridden a motorcycle then they do not truly appreciate the difference a trip on one can make.
And if one needs to clear cobwebs, a bike is the way to do it (okay, hiking works as well, but isn't nearly as much fun).
Besides, the original Batgirl did have a motorcycle so it is keeping with the cliche.

| Motorbikes Posted: 2/18/2007 8:17:18 PM | Ok. My 2cents. I've been riding since I was 19. (Let's say under 20 years shall we?) My reason? My boyfriend at the time scared the living pants off me while I was the passenger just one too many times.
When I took my driving school with Calgary Motorcycle Academy ( www.safetycouncil.ab.ca/motorcycle.html ) I was surprised that way back then over half the class was women. From Harley girls on down to the touring bike 55+ ladies. We learned a lot and had the time of our lives.
I HIGHLY recommend taking a course - for EVERYONE. They offer a refresher course for experienced riders and always welcome experienced riders to become instructors after they have a couple of years of on road experience.
I have one encounter with a bad driver every time I go out, (It's Calgary!! damn new drivers) and it's not for lack of skill or visibility!!!! I wear a RED jacket on a RED bike - and I just got these HOT little LED lights and valve stem LEDs (tee hee) to add to my nighttime visibility. Apparently I'm getting more headlights when I get home too. Thanks Mr.Nag. If I didn't have the training and wasn't comfortable on my little Suzuki Savage 650, I would probably not be on the road.
If I'm driving, I don't take passengers. I don't want to be responsible for someone else's life. I might in certain circumstances, but to this day I have never had any such emergency.
And if I'm driving the bike, in the city zero alcohol. Empty highway, MAYbe 1. (Thanks Doug for the Bragg Creek ice cream run! Don't flame me - yes ZERO alcohol all the time is good, but I think we're adults and should be able to judge that a cool one during a hot afternoon on the patio well before the drive home should be OK.)
I think ALL women should feel comfortable either on the back or driving for themselves. (Motorcycle or SCOOTER Princess BB. Both are excellent choices.) It's not an easy choice for some. When I'm tired - I sometimes regret being so pig-headed about it. Being on the back can be quite relaxing and you get to watch the scenery!!
~M~
Oh, and BTW - I'd love a jacket that says "If you can read this - the a$$-hole got his own ride!!
|
| Motorbikes Posted: 2/18/2007 8:24:59 PM |
It was a little two-stroke
Oh Batgirl - I'm soooo sorry to hear that. Hope he got better with more practice!
~M~
(And you're not alone on that running out of fuel thing - ask me about my most embarrassing moment some time!)
|
| Motorbikes Posted: 2/18/2007 8:35:13 PM | Macgyyver - red bike, so cool - that's what I would want too!
It's on the future must have wish list - little red harley!
Someday! | |

Hey Mon_Cherie - does that come with a year's oil changes and free towing?
Oil changes? - depends on what kind of oil changes we are talking about here and who gives the oil changes I may want them for life!!
You are a funny girl!! | |

| Motorbikes Posted: 2/19/2007 12:13:16 AM | | A little spin on your question here. I actually bought my first bike after my girlfriend had one. She got the itch to buy one to ride with her ex, so was an experinced rider. I'd alway's wanted one, since a teen, after a ride on my uncle's. Figured it was a great time to take the plunge and obviously it was a great idea. Oh by the way my ex was in a club, Women in the Wind, and I enjoyed my first year of riding with them, picked up many pointer's as well, so ladies if your looking for some info, support or some other ladies to ride with I'd highly recommend the group. They do have a web site, though I don't know its' address. | |
|
| Motorbikes Posted: 2/19/2007 5:15:53 AM | I think this is sooooo very neat! It has to be the wind!!! I'm not a biker (too many hang ups in my head from working trauma accidents) but I know that I would be a devotee. I used to race sailboats and the wind & the sun were such turn ons.
Bravo to you all and I'm starting to realize that guys with bikes may very well have an attitude or personality that I may be attracted to. I'd rather be a driver than a rider and I don't know that I'd like having a rider. Yes responsibility. I feel the same stress when I have someone's child or children in my car.
I think that you should have some biker get togethers in the spring or summer.
|
| Motorbikes Posted: 2/19/2007 8:19:16 AM | | I like quadding a lot ... however, last year, I was thinking about a bike ... one close to the ground so I can hold it up ... or not have too far to fall, slide, or basically scape the skin off my leg after slamming into a tree (oh yes, that has happened to me before) ... but yeah, I am definitely buying a quad ... but first, I have to get that garage up, so I have somewhere to put all my toys ... | |
|
| Motorbikes Posted: 2/19/2007 8:32:25 AM | hey ruckus ..... what kind of quad? do you know of any good places to go? do tell, i need a new place to tear up | |
|
| Motorbikes Posted: 2/19/2007 8:38:21 AM | | I have no problems going on someone else's bike.. but I won't allow anyone to ride with me when I'm on it.. I'd feel too guilty if something happens.. | |
