| STD's: Can u get an STD if you both are virgins?? Posted: 2/21/2007 5:19:42 AM | Yes ...
A person may be a virgin to the extent that they never had actual penetration with another individual, but for example: Even just rubbing the penis around the vaginal opening of a woman with an active case of herpes could give him herpes ... or vice versa, she could get herpes if he's having an active case and rubs his penis around her vaginal opening.
No penetration is necessary.
The same goes for most other STD's.
Also, don't forget ... saying one is a virgin and actually being a virgin can be two completely different things ... right? How does one go about proving it these days?
Be careful. | |

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't clamidia actual a urinary tract infection. Perhaps you got that idea because as you see below ... tests can be performed on urine in order to diagnose it ...
... but it is not considered a UTI ... it is an STD.
http://www.cdc.gov/std/default.htm
How is Chlamydia diagnosed?
There are laboratory tests to diagnose chlamydia. Some can be performed on urine, other tests require that a specimen be collected from a site such as the penis or cervix.
How do people get Chlamydia?
Chlamydia can be transmitted during vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Chlamydia can also be passed from an infected mother to her baby during vaginal childbirth. Any sexually active person can be infected with chlamydia. The greater the number of sex partners, the greater the risk of infection. Because the cervix (opening to the uterus) of teenage girls and young women is not fully matured, they are at particularly high risk for infection if sexually active. Since chlamydia can be transmitted by oral or anal sex, men who have sex with men are also at risk for chlamydial infection.
What are the symptoms of Chlamydia?
Chlamydia is known as a "silent" disease because about three quarters of infected women and about half of infected men have no symptoms. If symptoms do occur, they usually appear within 1 to 3 weeks after exposure. In women, the bacteria initially infect the cervix and the urethra (urine canal). Women who have symptoms might have an abnormal vaginal discharge or a burning sensation when urinating. When the infection spreads from the cervix to the fallopian tubes (tubes that carry eggs from the ovaries to the uterus), some women still have no signs or symptoms; others have lower abdominal pain, low back pain, nausea, fever, pain during intercourse, or bleeding between menstrual periods. Chlamydial infection of the cervix can spread to the rectum. Men with signs or symptoms might have a discharge from their penis or a burning sensation when urinating. Men might also have burning and itching around the opening of the penis. Pain and swelling in the testicles are uncommon. Men or women who have receptive anal intercourse may acquire chlamydial infection in the rectum, which can cause rectal pain, discharge, or bleeding. Chlamydia can also be found in the throats of women and men having oral sex with an infected partner.

| STD's: Can u get an STD if you both are virgins?? Posted: 2/21/2007 9:49:08 AM | | My sister caught HPV (cervical cancer, an STD) before she lost her virginity from giving a blow job and swallowing. See, that's what happens when you don't pay attention in Sex Ed. Having never had****in-**** intercourse is no indicator of whether you can catch or give an STD. Plus, you have things like Hep B, which can be transmitted in other ways, like drinking after someone. A friend of mine was exposed to Hep C by doing his job - he's a body piercer, and after he ran the needle through one of our friends (who we knew was Hep C positive already), he accidentally stabbed himself with it. He hasn't gotten tested, so we're not sure if he was able to get it from that small an amount of blood. | |

| STD's: Can u get an STD if you both are virgins?? Posted: 2/21/2007 11:07:44 AM | and then there is good ole SYPHILUS! You may or may not exhibit symptoms of STD, it can go under and hide for years and years and reoccur. Its not a matter of getting a treatment and it goes away for ever.
STD's are a BIG DEAL and growing. Just remember that so far man has had difficulty finding treatments for Virus' as they are entirely different than bacteria. Virus' by their nature mutate constantly.
And yes I'm glad someone brought up about orally transmitted STD;s and who the heck wants Hep C or for that matter any of anything! Know your partner.
I think AIDS did the biggest thing to mankind (not gender specific) into waking up a lot of people BUT it is not just AIDS you have to worry about.
I am monogamous exclusively and celibate when I don't have a long term partner, that is my nature BUT I believe that that is definitely making people more aware of STD's. i.e. they are just not exclusive to the sexual organs anymore.
My problem is ewwwwwww who wants to use a condom?

| STD's: Can u get an STD if you both are virgins?? Posted: 2/21/2007 11:21:05 AM | HSV and HPV (and possibly the bacterial STDs, i'm not sure which ones, haven't looked them up) can definitely be transmitted via indirect contact. in other words, if you give manual stimulation to an infected partner, they can shed virus onto your hand, and when you then touch yourself, you can get infected.
HSV1 can be transmitted to the genitals via oral sex as well, which was never brought up during my sex-ed class in school but i did learn about it in nursing school.

| STD's: Can u get an STD if you both are virgins?? Posted: 2/21/2007 11:26:15 AM | My sister caught HPV (cervical cancer, an STD) before she lost her virginity from giving a blow job and swallowing.
I'd like to clarify with everyone that HPV in and on itself is NOT cervical cancer, nor do all strains of HPV cause cervical cancer although most will cause abnormal pap smears in women (pre-cancerous cells are often a sign of having it). There are many many strains of HPV so it's important to be careful. Condoms are not able to stop HPV from being spread except in cases with cervix to semen contact where the likelihood of getting the particular strains which cause cervical cancer can develop. It is likely they had genital contact or manual contact which spread it to her genitals if she showed signs of cervical cancer. Penetration is not required at all.
HPV, otherwise called the Human Papilloma Virus is an STD which is responsible for genital warts. Many people carry HPV and have no symptoms. You can pass HPV onto your unborn child and you can also get warts on in the throat and larynx from oral sex. A very painful condition.
It is most advisable to have sexual relations in a monogamous relationship and to minimize the number of sexual partners in order to prevent yourself from getting this.
For this and other reasons, I do not sleep around. Too many risks and sex isn't important enough to risk one's life for.
And yes, of course two virgins can get STD's. It depends who they've been with or had physical contact with.
Hepatitis A can be spread through personal contact, consumption of raw sea food or drinking contaminated water. This occurs primarily in third world countries. Strict personal hygiene and the avoidance of raw and unpeeled foods can help prevent an infection. Infected persons already begin excreting the hepatitis A virus with their stool two weeks after the appearance of the first symptoms. The time between the infection and the start of the illness can run from 15 to 45 days, and approximately 15% of sufferers may experience relapsing symptoms from six months to a year following initial diagnosis.
So Hep A is not necessarily sexually transmitted. Hep B, C and E (which is a lot like A) and G are passed through the blood and bodily fluids invasively.
Alcoholic hepatitis is caused by chronic overconsumption of alcoholic beverages. This isn't something you catch, it's something you develop.

| STD's: Can u get an STD if you both are virgins?? Posted: 2/21/2007 11:59:07 AM | Honey, my goodness YES! Geesh, you need to #1 get tested for everything and #2 start wrapping it up! It looks like a lot of people have covered most STD's in here, but let me throw this one your way...did you know that there are TWO strains of Herpes? HSV-1 and HSV-2. HSV-2 is the most common way to get genital herpes, but HSV-1 (you will know it as cold sores) can also cause genital herpes! Rare, but it DOES happen.
Does your partner have tats, piercings, ever had blood transfusions, shot up with dirty needles? Case in point on this one....one of my family memebers used to shoot Heroin. He NEVER shared a needle but was known to reuse the same one. He got something just because where he had laid his needle had been an infected area.
*NOTE to all you ink lovers and piercers...I'm one myself, so don't hate...but you and I all know that some folks go the 'at home' route and there are still a handful of shops that aren't all that clean*

| Really!? Posted: 2/21/2007 12:09:19 PM | "My sister caught HPV (cervical cancer, an STD) before she lost her virginity from giving a blow job and swallowing. OK, I was a sexual educator for famliy planning and I never heard of getting cervical cancer (or cervical anything) by swallwoing semen. Maybe you sister is trying to cover up something. And if she DID get HPV from that, the warts would show up on her mouth, not down below. And I would not blame anyone for not paying attention in Sex Ed class. This kind of stuff is RARELY covered.
Also, what you should know is that you have to get an STD from another person. 2 people without any infections do not magically get a disease from th act itself. One (or more) of the partners has to bring the disease in.
And one more thought (For now, feel free to ask anything you need) You can also trasmit it yourself onto more of yourself. What I mean is, cold sores on the lips are herpes. (We just call them cold sores to make ourselves fee better). If you were to touch the sores and then touch "down there" (going to the bathroom, scratching, whatever) you can spread herpes from your mouth to you "area". Same with oral sex. Cold sores on the mouth will be spread if you are using your mouth to pleasure someone.
Good luck, it is dangerous out there!

| Really!? Posted: 2/21/2007 12:33:57 PM | According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it is possible to transmit HPV through oral sex, but this is less likely than through through vaginal and anal sex. For some reason, HPV prefers genital and anal skin.
The standard method of prevention -- to use a condom with spermicide for all acts of vaginal and anal sex -- may not protect a female partner from transmission of the virus if she comes into contact with infected areas that are not covered by the condom.

| Really!? Posted: 2/21/2007 4:04:21 PM | Cold Sores are Herpes Simplex and not like infectious Herpes Complex. I'm not sure but I think Impatego is Herpes Complex and can be transmitted through towels, dishes, etc.... even after laundrying.
Some people get cold sores from sun lite and that does not mean they have Herpes. In ski season I knew all kinds of people that the winter sun created havoc on their lips.
I think boils (when I was a kid, oh man they were awful thankfully I outgrew them) are a Herpes Complex and then there is Pink Eye which is highly allergic and has nothing to do with sex, genitals, etc.....
So with all this input hopefully everyone learns to be a lot more careful and pay attention to our bodies and how we treat them.
HIV did one major thing for North America. It cut down on a lot of promiscuousness. A lot of people went Celibate dead fast!!!!! VIRUS of all kinds and BACTERIAs of certain kinds are not to be messed with. Can't go get a mega shot of Penicillin for them!!!!

Despite the alarmist but otherwise accurate warnings of the rest of this thread by far the most likely thing to occur when two virgins shag is pregnancy.

Cheers, Mike (and the rhythm method and withdrawal really don't count; the technical term for women that rely on them is "Mother")

| Really!? Posted: 2/21/2007 4:31:18 PM | Sorry gtadaizee but you're wrong about herpes. Impatego is a bacterial infection, NOT a form of herpes, which requires antibiotics and yes it is spread very easily as I understand it.
There are a total of about six forms of herpes, including Epstein Barr and chickenpox/shingles. Herpes Simplex types 1 and 2 both cause coldsores - the difference being that type 1 is more LIKELY to cause coldsores on the face and type 2 will cause them on the genitals. Since President Bill decided that fellatio was not a sex act, there has been an increase in incidence of type 1 and a decrease in NEW diagnoses of type 2, btw.
It's true boys and girls, despite all the hysteria about genital herpes it's JUST A COLDSORE! In fact type 1, which causes sores on the face, has the potential for MUCH more serious side effects (which are rare but do happen) such as the virus traveling up into the brain instead of down onto the skin! The greatest risk with type 2 is during childbirth, but these days it's pretty rare to encounter neonatal herpes as the mom should KNOW and have a c section.
As for the suggestion that you can catch herpes giving somebody a handjob - WASH YOUR HANDS! The virus is actually quite fragile and is easily killed with soap and water. While the drug company that makes the anti-viral medication is spending a lot of money on TV commercials to convince you that most people caught it from a partner who didn't know they had it - BULL$HIT. Sorry, but there's just no other word for it. A British researcher in the early 90's learned that the drug company was actually investing money in disseminating misinformation about how terrible this virus is to increase sales of the antivirals, to which they hold the patents.
The most important thing to understand about herpes is that UNLIKE EVERY OTHER STD this one is transmitted by skin to skin contact, NOT through bodily fluids. If the infected person has an active lesion on their skin (whether on their mouth or their genitals) it is possible to transmit the virus to their partner through oral sex because of the contact (doesn't matter if semen is involved). It should also be noted that because men have "real" skin protecting their genitals, where women have mucous membranes, we are FOUR TIMES more likely to catch it than to give it away! It should also be noted that the FEMALE condom affords greater protection from THIS virus as it covers the labia (if anybody has experience actually USING one please contribute to this discussion).
The likelihood of somebody having asymptomatic shedding of the virus (where there are virus cells present on the skin but no sores evident) decreases exponentially over time. In other words, you are MOST likely to be contagious without knowing it in the first few months after the initial outbreak. I had unprotected sex with my ex for more than 8 years and he never caught it from me, as I knew when it was active and just abstained from any sexual contact that would have put him at risk. More recently another ex had blood work which proved that he hadn't caught it either.
Getting back to the OP, even if they've never had sexual intercourse these kids could have herpes from being KISSED by somebody who had it on the face. Having type 1 seems to offer increased protection from type 2, according to all the reading I've done over the last 13 years.
PLEASE NOTE: 20% of sexually active adults in North America have genital herpes!!!
Hope this clears the issue up for some of you.

| Really!? Posted: 2/21/2007 7:12:49 PM | Wow ... Dar!!!!
Great post on Herpes.
This is how we help each other in here. I try to be of assistance because I just have no inhibition about it. I guess it comes with the territory ... it's part of my job and I want as many as possible to know about these things.
It's often embarrassing for people to come into a public forum and ask such questions, so it doesn't often occur. When it does, it gives those of us who know best ... an excellent chance to spread the knowledge.
All productive posts are welcome. I'm not the OP, but I always like to extend thanks to anyone who adds to helping others in this way.
Great posts people!!!!

| Really!? Posted: 6/22/2009 12:27:30 AM | Tonsils may help transmit HIV during oral sex
26 July 2007 by Roxanne Khamsi For similar stories, visit the HIV and AIDS Topic Guide The tonsils might serve as a passageway through which HIV enters the body, suggests an analysis of cells from the mouth and throat.
Researchers stress that the risk of acquiring HIV through oral sex is far too low to warrant preventive tonsillectomies. But they say the finding might have implications for preventing transmission of the virus from HIV-infected mothers to their children through breastfeeding.
Niki Moutsopoulos at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research in Bethesda, Maryland, US, and her colleagues examined gum tissues taken from dental patients to make room for dental crowns, and tonsils taken from eight individuals as part of a treatment for sleep apnoea, a breathing disorder. "They were pretty much going to throw them out if I didn't use them for my research," Moutsopoulos says of the tissue samples.
With the help of specially designed antibody molecules, the team was able to determine the level of various proteins within these tissues.
About 12% of the tonsil cells tested positive for the protein CD4, which sits on the surface of immune cells that are particularly vulnerable to infection by the virus. By comparison, less than 4% of the gum cells contained this protein.
Moutsopolous and her teammates also conducted a genetic analysis of the tissue samples, using special probes that bind to specific DNA sequences. This experiment revealed that the CXCR4 gene was 11 times more active in the tonsils than in the gum samples. The gene codes for a protein, also called CXCR4, that also helps HIV infect immune cells.
Condoms protect The scientists found further evidence that the tonsils are perhaps more susceptible to HIV infection that other oral areas, including the cheek lining and floor of the mouth.
The new findings provide biological data to complement clinical and epidemiological evidence suggesting that HIV can - in exceptional cases - spread through oral sex, according to John Greenspan, director of the AIDS Research Institute at the University of California in San Francisco, US. "It's a further piece of the jigsaw puzzle," he told New Scientist.
But he and others note that while HIV transmission can occur through oral sex, it appears to happen very rarely. Experts have estimated that at most 4 out of every 10,000 oral sex exposures result in infection, compared with 1 out of every 200 to 1000 episodes of genital contact.
For this reason, researchers suggest people should use condoms to protect themselves from acquiring HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases through oral sex. Undergoing a tonsillectomy to remove the tonsils would be too drastic a measure based on current evidence, they add. "I think that would be a stretch," says Moutsopoulos. "We can't go taking out every tissue that HIV could pass through."

| STD's: Can u get an STD if you both are virgins?? Posted: 6/22/2009 7:08:17 PM | If she's been rubbed with a c--k but not penetrated, yes, there can be VD around her vagina. And, if she's sucked a lot of c--k, she could have a disease in or around her mouth, even inside her body, which can certainly be transmitted genitally if the disease decides to fester there. Likewise, if you've eaten a lot of quim, you could have a disease in or around your mouth, even inside your body, which can certainly be transmitted genitally if the disease decides to fester there.
I'm not an MD, of course, so have no medical findings to back this up, but it seems like good common sense.
Wear rubbers until you both want to be committed. Say it's merely to prevent pregnancy. Then, once you both express a desire to be committed, both of you go get tested before you rock on raw unprotected.
