| do you avoid profiles with spelling and/or grammar errors? Posted: 4/16/2005 2:56:28 PM | I want someone who is intelligent. However, on here when I type on a laptop, I'm lucky to spell anything correctly. I want an ergonomic keyboard. Grammar - can be a problem.
However, think of it like this. I was born in Virginia and speak hillbilly. I lived in Nashville and added redneck to hillbilly. What we think is good grammar and good grammar are (or is it "is") two different things. LOL
I had a friend from Alabama who went to college with me. The professor said, "Bobby your grammar is horrible." Bobby, replied, "Whar I'm frum, this is gud grammar."
There has to be intellectual compatibility. I made A's in my minor in college Greek. C's in English. A's in high school Spanish and C's in high school English. Does that make me stupid? I don't think so.
Its who the person is that really matters. A liar with perfect grammar isn't my kind of date. T

| do you avoid profiles with spelling and/or grammar errors? Posted: 4/16/2005 3:06:28 PM | I don't worry about a few spelling errors, I'm terrible with spelling myself... and even worse when typing, and often forget to proof read what I have written.
If I am having trouble understanding what the person is trying to say, then yes I skip over that profile. But that could be just cause I'm too lazy to be bothered trying to disipher.
I try to look past the spelling and gramatical errors, but sometimes, I just can't if it is causing the post/profile to be difficult to understand.

Hey, I better check wickipedia, I'll bet that's a word now! Sure enough. "Um is a sound made by a person to express uncertainaty. Similar to huh, er, and uh..."

It's one thing to make mistakes in a letter or a post, but on one's profile ... that's almost inexcusable. Of course I am flexible (and maybe a hypocrite), there are a couple of women on pof with whom I correspond who have spelling errors in their profiles.

| do you avoid profiles with spelling and/or grammar errors? Posted: 4/16/2005 4:04:46 PM | I specifically look to talk to intelligent people. English always was my strong suit as opposed to some of the other subjects thrown into the mix. However, there are many different ways a person can be intelligent. So no, I won't rule them out simply because of some spelling errors. If they can carry a conversation, it's great! | |

| do you avoid profiles with spelling and/or grammar errors? Posted: 4/16/2005 4:08:42 PM | Grammar doesn't bother me, a few typo's don't bother me. Spelling mistakes, not likely to bother me. I have some reel muments of my own.
however if i see a paragrah and i mean the whole paragraph is like this i'm gone i just can stand it when people make one whole sentance out of a paragraph i mean come on its not that hard to use some captilization and punctuation is it?

| do you avoid profiles with spelling and/or grammar errors? Posted: 4/16/2005 4:14:10 PM | | why is it so bad to not use punctuation and capitalization if you don't want to use them in a comment on a thread where the the topic is about people that often use poor grammar and spelling on these threads and even in the subject line of of new threads they create about using poor grammar and spelling just becuase some people like to use commas and periods and proper case and proper spelling | |

Posted: 4/16/2005 4:16:59 PM | I tease about it and I try to NOT misspell, however, I find it extremely amusing when someone says that they are looking for someone intelligent in their profile and they have typos throughout. One man said he was a 'profesinal' you KNOW that is not a typo.
What gets me most is when people misuse YOU'RE and YOUR, or TWO, TO and TOO or, THEY'RE and THEIR.

| do you avoid profiles with spelling and/or grammar errors? Posted: 4/16/2005 4:22:38 PM | I didnt think people would be that bothered with grammar typos etc.
Mines is probably got typos and grammar problems, this doesnt mean im not educated or intelligent just shows Im a bit lazy when trying to relax.
I never really read peoples profiles I scan it and then just go in asking questions, then I go back and re-read it if necessary but most women in the UK dont put a lot on their profile so thats probably why i dont bother so much, and they lie as well like say there 22 in the profile and their 43, getting serious when people say one thing in the search and in their profile it says something different - not very fair.

| do you avoid profiles with spelling and/or grammar errors? Posted: 4/16/2005 4:35:36 PM | I couldnt agree more Fid. (yes I know I left out the apostrophe) In the age of email and instant messaging, it has become understandable to drop the punctuation and capitalization and use acronyms etc. but poor spelling, to me, seems like you just dont care enough to reread what you wrote and be sure that what you wrote makes sense and is spelled correctly. I know that there are often very good reasons why people do not spell well (dyslexia), and someone can certainly be an intelligent person and just not spell well, but IMO spelling is something that is very easy to double check and helps make a better first impression. For the most part I think people just get lazy and think it is not important. | |

| do you avoid profiles with spelling and/or grammar errors? Posted: 4/16/2005 5:00:44 PM | Ugh. I can't stand profiles with misspelled words. There are spell checkers all over the net, your email, MS Word (If you use a PC), etcetcetc. For the love of all that's holy, copy and paste it into something and SPELL CHECK IT!!!! *blinks* It appears that this has been bothering me.... I am a horrid speller... but I spell check darn near everything... even emails on here. My biggest pet peeves? 1) A lot, not alot or allot. 2) You're, your 3) Their, they're, there
People who use chat "speak" cuz itz kewl 2 u *twitch* Seriously would you speak like that to a boss? A coworker? Your pet even?! If I see chat speak I won't even look at the profile.
Oh and hi to everyone... Just joined, this is my first comment!:)

| do you avoid profiles with spelling and/or grammar errors? Posted: 4/16/2005 5:11:01 PM | I was going to argue that point but there is not one there, I did say it was me being lazy and that is unattractive, I will sort out my grammar and and spelling mistakes I may have.
See when you think about it a bit more there could be this nice caring loving person out there whos a bit shy and is on the net looking for a woman he has a Degree in numercy, can do algorithyms in minutes but poor man didnt learn how to seperate his words, and people will jsut say un educated - but he could sort your finances out in minutes and make you a mint plus love and care. Anyway ther are just what-ifs

So okay whats more unnatractive 4 lines saying what you like in perfect grammar? or 4 paragraphs with a lot more detail to start, or does it have to be all in 1 - just a question as I have been looking on the local one here and women just dont put anything in or type in ned language.

| do you avoid profiles with spelling and/or grammar errors? Posted: 4/16/2005 5:25:17 PM | Yes, yes, yes, yes. I do avoid it.
And not to say that my own typing is always perfect, or that everything I write is grammatically correct. It just ain't so *laugh*
But major spelling errors just jump out screaming, "I couldn't be bothered to read over my profile." I like to joke around and relax as much as the next person, but I would also like to have a conversation with someone who can express themselves in a reasonably intelligent way. Nothing pompous or sarcastic, but at least something in which to sink your teeth.
A bit of witty verbal play is very sexy.
