Posted: 3/12/2007 10:58:08 AM | Okay, we are defintaley having a slow pitch team this year in the durham area.
I am waiting on a few call backs for definate information on the day, time and cost.
We will be playing either on sunday or mondays down by ice sports in oshawa at the lake. Great diamonds. Eight of them, a friendly atmosphere and a very fun league. Played in it last year.
I will ask big fish to be our main sponser, see if he can provide us with 14 black with white lettering baseball style jerseys. Lots of exposure where we are playing, so maybe he will go for it. We also have ideas of park place and hooters as a sponser too. We do not need a sponser but nice to have one for sure.
Cost will be from 50 to 60 dollars, almost positive about that. That was what I paid last year for my mixed team. So as long as that league is still going to be running that is a great price.
We will play one game some nights and some nights we will have a double header. If you have kids don't be shy to bring them, my son had a blast there with the kids last year.
So on Sunday march 25th at 4.00pm we will have a meeting at hooters to all those interested in playing, I will be collecting registration money and we can all put our heads together and plan some practice nights and any other idea's.

That is 10 players already. So here is the thread players from anywhere are welcome. Will be keeping you posted on sponser information.
Any idea's are welcome.
Would like the team to be made up of 14 players and 4 alternates
Almost always there are players that can not make it to the game, so an alternate postion means you do not have to payto play and you come and fill in for the players that can't make it and come to all practices for free.
I am open to change the 14teen number if need be too | |

There is no picking, everyone is welcome. Will do everything I can to accomandate everyone. If there are too many players, will see about making two teams. So just post in here and show up on the sunday for the meeting. If by chance there is a conflict with a few too many players on who wants on the team and who wants to be an alternate, we will do some kind of name in the hat thing or something. So no bias is shown for who is on the team and who are alternates.

I've played on a few soft ball teams myself , backcatcher is my preferred position and i'm a pretty good base hitter.
contact spunky on here she's a pretty good baseball player herself.

If you are short players can you have subs?? or is it the standard Slo pitch Rules where they wont let you have subs... I would play all the time , but the league I am in is Sundays and Long weekend mondays. ( I can play where ever you need someone )

So good thing we don't need a pitcher huh,,, When I did play I mainly did pitch but i was able (notice the was lol) to play any position given to me. I prefer centre or short stop if they have that position. are we going to have to try out for the positions. I sure hope not i might be left standing...

I am hoping it is a monday night league night hawk, but may be sundays. You are aloud to have alternates, what they mean by no subs is that whoever is at the game plays in the line up, no subing in and out during the game.
I will find out the exact time and day when i get this call back.
You do not have to try out for postions.
Standard guys postions in softball are short stop, second base centre field left field and right field. Having a girl able to play either right or left field is a big plus cause that frees up one of them to be a rover.
The girls postions are third base, first base, catcher and two rovers or one rover and one outfielder.
Positons will be awarded on what skills you have. Great to have a girl that can catch really good, who may not be able to throw that well at first base.
Great to have a girl that can throw hard at third base.
Catcher if for the girl that jus wants to have fun and not really into catching and fielding.
The outfield is where the rest of the girls play.
At practice I be able to tell where everyone should play. Aiming to have five girls and five guys on the field at all times. Good that you in shape paul, maybe centre field for you. That is the most running. lol.
We will all figure it out. That stuff is fun.
EDIT: Hey all don't be intimidated, if you want to play just come on sunday and sign up. This is all about fun, not competitive. You don't have to be good, you just have to have fun | |
