FEATURE: Report a Post for DeletionPage 1 of 3    (1, 2, 3)
I'm curious as to why I can all of a sudden delete other people's posts on threads. I've never had this option before, so I'm not sure why it is here! Any information you could offer me as to why this is happening would be appreciated please! Thank you!

I see that on my login as well.

What exactly should we be doing with this?

And if it is super powers as you have mentioned above, what criteria should we be using such powers.

Edit: I see now that it is under each post. Afraid to click on it at the moment lol.

I'm more worried that others will abuse this new found power.

Don't worry, they're only submitted to Moderators for review - they won't actually get deleted unless we deem it to be a valid report.

AND don't forget to add a reason why you wish the post deleted.

Anything that is given is just as likely to be taken away. I am not too worried about it. Any improper action is always subject to a reaction. Such was the case with the thread voting.

But am a little curious about it's purpose, intent, users who have access to it, and how it is best to be used.

JMHO.

It appears to only apply to the Ask a Girl/Guy forums....is this correct?

Then it should be more accurately labeled "Report Post" rather than "Delete Post".

This is causing a panic this morning lol, it's the 3rd thread I've seen this mentioned. I gave my opinion on an other one. It's already redundant sorry couldn't resist.

Has everyone been granted this newfound gift? I can see this being more misused than the delete thread option.

Well, hopefully this will disappear with all the abuse I can see it's going to cause. Seems to me that the mods are just creating even more work for themselves.

read post # 6, there is no abuse!

in fact, it shortens the process for both the user and the moderators

old process - click here --> ADMIN: Forum Rule violations

My concern is the ease with wich one can now 'tag' posts for deleteion. At least with the old method, you were forced to put a little effort into reporting a post which allows for cooler heads to prevail in some situations. Is a policy now going to have to be developed to deal with the 'delete this thread' happy people?

ease or not - we still have the final say, we either deem it valid, to which we then delete it, or simply reject the report as in the existing process.

At least with the old method, you were forced to put a little effort into reporting a post

you still have to do enter a reason - still thought and manual effort required, just a bit less on the manual side

Is a policy now going to have to be developed to deal with the 'delete this thread' happy people?

we already have one in process - abusers have their priviledge removed, or total removal if malicious.

I saw it and thought.. "oh.. what is this now?" then I chuckled and thought.. "doesn't he ever sleep?"

Wow! Everyday there is something new for people to whine about.. umm no.. create redundant threads about.. no.. discuss! Thats it.

We should start a thread, "what do you think the next option will be" and then some kind of pool.. LOL

I love this site! Never a dull moment.

Thanks for the clarification. Not having used the feature, didn't realise that the stop-gaps were still inplace.

So can anyone actually say what happens when you click the delete button. Does it delete automatically? Have options eg reason for? Does your name come up?

I ask these questions because until someone tries this new feature no one knows.

^^^Ooooooh, new button! How exciting. Of course I had to try it. Your name doesn't come up, simply a box that asks for your reason for deletion, then when clicked, the information is whisked into the vast abyss of cyberspace. The post was not deleted automatically. I'm ambivalent. If people would only use their new-found power for good..... ;)

^^^Not going to happen. Sometimes i think the mods on here try to hard to be babysitters for some people. Well it doesnt matter cause the known person comes on with a different nick and continues to post. So good luck on this new gadget.

Go check a thread from just over 24 hours ago or so , and see if the option is available.

I believe it's only for posts within the first 24 hours of their life.
