| An amazing dip....My first post ever on here :) Posted: 4/4/2007 3:22:56 PM | I have been making this dip for a number of years now, and anytime i've made it...it's been a real hit. O.K.....it's not really the healthiest...but hey...splurge...enjoy...and savor the tastes. The ingredients are simple.....
Salsa (medium works best) Cream Cheese (1 250 gram block) Mayonaisse (yes....mayo!...trust me.... Cheddar (or any preferred hard cheese)
The dip can be made in a single casserole dish, and served as such.
Grate cheese and set aside, Temper the cream cheese to room temperature (until soft)
Mix equal parts of the mayo, and cream cheese and spread on bottom of the casserole dish. Add a thin layer of salsa over top of the cheese/mayo mixture. Spread a layer of the shredded cheese on top of the salsa. Repeat layers of cheese and salsa, until you use up all of what you have, or get to the top of the dish. Toss it in the fridge for a few hours (that's the hardest part....not eating it right away...). Remove from the fridge approximately 1 hour before serving. This allows all the ingredients to meld together..and soften. Serve with crackers, natchos, or pita's cut into bite size pieces.....
Let me know what you think of this recipe....there are many versions...but this old basic is a real winner in my books!

| An amazing dip....My first post ever on here :) Posted: 4/6/2007 6:35:11 PM | Hey,
I hope you let me know how it went over. I have an Aunt...anytime she hears that I'm making the dip...she shows up....and wants hers. I generally make up the recipe x2 so she can be accomodated. She's older, and really shouldn't eat something so bad...but how can you resist an old gal that wants some yummy dip? Anyhow, hope your party goes well.

Try making the dip fat free/low fat for your Aunt. Cream cheese can be fat free, as well as mayo...substitute fat free Miracle Whip or another type. You can even find low fat cheese now, but if you do the other ingredients only, the regular cheese could still be used, and all and all it would be still healthier for her.
I make a fruit pizza with ingedients totally fat free, and NO ONE complains.. they can't believe it would be that good fat free...
Anyway, just a thought. Of course her's would have to be made seperate, but it might be worth it. Just don't tell her that her's is different and see what she thinks.

| An amazing dip....My first post ever on here :) Posted: 6/27/2007 5:45:51 AM | | I've also made this dip and it is delicious! I also do a version of this recipe where you put Taco sauce instead of salsa and make the hamburger with the Taco spice packet and put that on over the cream cheese/mayo/taco sauce bottom and then put the grated cheese on top.....YUMMY....and a great party favorite. | |

Jalapeno popper dip
2 pk cream cheese 1 cup mayo 1 - 4 oz can green chilies 1 - 8 oz can jalapeños drained cover with parmesan cheese
put in oven at 350° until brown
Serve with chips, crackers, pita bread. All good! | |
