| Explaining the origin of your profile name.... Posted: 4/22/2005 4:01:05 PM | i don't know if a thread like this exists b/c i haven't come across it, but i know the question can't be original.
it's a genuinely good icebreaker when sending an email for the first time - but can you explain what your handle means and why you chose it? sometimes, when coming across profile names, what they really mean???? for me:
"girl" cause i am one. "single" cause that's my status at present. "malt" cause it's what i like to drink (the "single malt" works well together to explain what i like to drink even better...)

| Explaining the origin of your profile name.... Posted: 4/22/2005 4:06:37 PM | ^^^Do you have a "George" connection to your "nym"?
When I first subscribed, I kept "drawing a blank" when it came to choosing a "nym", .....what kept popping into my mind was, "Call me anything you like, just don't call me 'late for supper'......."
So I was lateforsupper for a while, .....then lateforsugery (this had a ring of truth to the implied "tardiness" in the name), .....then I switched back, ..... then I shortened it because everybody called me "late",
.....the "™"?
...hmmmm... well, other people came up with "late", ....my tongue-in-cheek joke in "owning" it.
In the end I called my self what others called me ("Call me anything you like"), "late", so there seems to me anyway, ....to be a vague kinda' symmetry to it.

Well, you got me...yes, but I can't help but to flirt with you. You're in my personal top 5 on this from the forums. :-)

| Explaining the origin of your profile name.... Posted: 4/22/2005 4:22:20 PM | Mine's pretty evident.....when I was younger people made snap judgments about my intellect based on my physical appearance (and I dressed conservatively).
I'm thinking about another name change though....people tend to call me "bimbo" for short (thanks for the N.A.B., Late, )

| Explaining the origin of your profile name.... Posted: 4/22/2005 4:32:41 PM | When I first started in martial arts as a teen-ager (many rains ago), I practiced with alot of guys from many different styles. We all ended up with nick-names (knuckle, T'e - [like kara-TE], black dragon, and kuroi samurai {trans: Black Knight}. Its a very honorably name so I never really objected to it, maybe even a little proud of it. . After about 30 years, I wear it on my competition uniform (although these days my students compete way more than I do, but that's ok, they win!).
In some of the nieghborhood bars there're several Tims, so I started typing in Samurai Tim when I was up for a pool table or when I won a video game, so it seemed a natural for a screen name here.

| Explaining the origin of your profile name.... Posted: 4/22/2005 4:35:02 PM | late - i have been guilty of shortening the late for supper to late in the forums, too. sorry about that. but i like your explanation - i like the genesis of your name and why it's now what it is...it's cool, like you.
vandelai - how can i be in your top 5 if i'm clear around the other side of the continent from you? i'm all for casting a wide net...but even that net's a big large and unmanageable, don't you think? but i appreciate the sentiment and thank you for the kind words sent my way.
notabimbo - you know, it's true that when shortening your name, it's easier to type "bimbo" in trying to acknowledge you - which is ironic given it's the very thing you are trying to avoid. perhaps a name change is in order. "nota" just doesn't identify you as well. btw, i've come across a couple of your posts and your intelligence and quick wit are a welcome addition to the forums. maybe "brainsb4beauty" or something like that? then people could type "brains" for short?!?!!?

I'm not casting a wide net, just saying you're one of my favorite ladies in the forums. And you're most welcome.

I always thought yours was clever (and cool like you) to, ....I must admit though, being a pun-loving kinda' guy, I "got it" right away......
C'mon Van, is this a tribute to George Costanza's little anonymity ploy, ...or is it something deeper?

| Explaining the origin of your profile name.... Posted: 4/22/2005 4:41:42 PM | | I played an online game called Counter-Strike for 5 years. Got pretty good at it too. Deagle is short for Desert Eagle, the most powerful handgun in the game. I got so good with it that one one day my friend in real life who plays along side me said 'man you are some kind of deagle ninja with that thing' and the name stuck.... | |

| Explaining the origin of your profile name.... Posted: 4/22/2005 4:45:01 PM | I've been called Sweet Shaker since I was 14 years old. My bf used to tease me cause I shake when I'm cold, scared or angry.
And well I don't know, it just kinda stuck...

| Explaining the origin of your profile name.... Posted: 4/22/2005 5:04:14 PM | | Well, for the people in my city, they should clue in that I work smack in the midst of the financial district on Bay St, and have been loving it for the last 20 years, hence the "Trapped" prefix. Oh the assumptions they make are rather stereotypical as to what I do on Bay St., and love ther expressions when I reply that I just push a mail cart around for fancy execs, hence the suit requirement ....... some even buy that story ......... and that's when I know to say, "pass" to the POF dealer......... | |

Thank you for the compliment SMG....same to you ....love reading your posts. I'll think about that, I had been considering another name change. I was pandora, but got really burned out on "pandora's box" references :)
I don't mind the shortening to "bimbo" unless it's a debate opponent, and they do it as part of an ad hominem attack. Maybe Nab is the way to go, Late, LOL....since several call me that already ;)

I think a lot of names like mine are pretty self explanatory!! I realize mine isn't all that original, I wish I could think of something really hip and cool!! Any suggestions??

| Explaining the origin of your profile name.... Posted: 4/22/2005 5:33:10 PM | | When I first had to come up with a screen name for the internet 9 years ago I came up with Special K since my name is Kim, I'm pretty darn special and also because I get soggy in milk. However Special K and every variation of it were already taken on the Yahoo email site so I came up with this phonetic version. It's ironic because I have a spelling fetish and won't even chat with people who can't spell. It just occurred to me now, 9 years later, that perhaps people weren't chatting with me for the same reason (based on my name). LOL ....DOH! | |
