| American Hardcore...Punk Rock documentary film Posted: 4/8/2007 8:21:28 AM | Anyone see this film yet.....
Man I laughed.....some really cool nostalgia about the Hardcore scenes in the early 80' with great interviews from punk ledgends...and some fantastic footage. Lots of Black Flag, Bad Brains, Circle Jerks, Minor Threat...and everyone else.... Mike Watt and Flea....
anyway, what in interesting window into a time and era of a often shunned genre....but unique and full of energy.

| American Hardcore...Punk Rock documentary film Posted: 4/8/2007 12:20:08 PM | | I wasn't born 'til "HARDCORE 81", but my boss at work grew up listening to D.O.A., Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys.... and he always tells me how I woulda loved sneaking into shows at the old Smiling Buddah Cabaret. The punk scene was a lot crazier back then. WAY more intense!! Just hearing of some of teh shows that the guys rememberred playing, it makes me jeaous that there really isn't TOO much of a Hardcore Punk scene anymore. There's a couple of Hardcore Bars where bands can play, but the bands suck | |

Hardcore isn't dead, it's just been forced further underground by so-called Top 40 'punk' bands.

Hardcore isn't dead, it's just been forced further underground by so-called Top 40 'punk' bands. Good...Im sick of them emo fashion f*cks with Slipknot or AFI t-shirts listening to Sum41 telling me how hardcore they are.

| American Hardcore...Punk Rock documentary film Posted: 1/21/2008 4:33:42 AM | I know that this is a long time ago, but the last post by Rys_ encouraged me to post..
I love AFI. Hands down, one of my favorite bands. I love Sum41, fun, outgoing, and awesome. I get sick of all this new wave David Bowie hair shit going on. But times change. I stopped picking on kids from what they wore because it's stupid. Just because a kid wears a t-shirt and tries to sell their hardcore vantage point, and when they try to or tell me that 'AFI'S FIRST ALBUM WAS SING THE SORROW GOD.' I just laugh and move on, because they just proved how immature and wrong they are. I almost shot myself when Miss Murder went mainstream, but soon it'll die down again, and everything in the AFI scene and other scene's will be back to normal. ...anyway, who cares, they're like, 15 anyway, and still have a lot of growing up to do.
American Hardcore was a great film, and gave me a new appriciation for the music I listen to.

If there is ever a time machine i'm soo going back to see some of those old school shows

| American Hardcore...Punk Rock documentary film Posted: 1/21/2008 7:32:43 PM | The book is way better. I think the movie was poorly done. When the book came out there were a handful of old DC guys that claimed alot of BS in the book. Translating the book over to film was not done with an objective tone, and it really hurt the release.
There are two projects films being made right now you may be interested in. One is a bunch of kids doing a film on the evolution of fashion and flyer art. The other is a potential follow up book marking the history of 86 thru 90. This is the era I grew up in. I'm really interested to see how these come out.

They covered some of the main bands, but they missed quite a bit as well...
But overall, worth a watch for sure...

Anyone ever heard of Zach De La Rocha's (RATM vocalist) old HC band called Inside Out? Damn, everytime I listen to that EP it reminds me of the good ol' elementary school punk days.

| American Hardcore...Punk Rock documentary film Posted: 2/23/2008 2:35:57 PM | | pretty good movie. some awesome rare footage. and they covered alot of lesser know bands which was cool...like articles of faith, SSD, etc. there were defiantely things left out that should have been included. and of course the movie made it seem like hardcore died in 1986...which couldnt be further from the truth. it may have changed a bit since then, but there's still a thriving underground hardcore scene out there...and still some of the craziest and most intense concerts you can see. check out bands like Have Heart, The First Step, Iron Age, Shipwreck, Righteous Jams and tons more! | |

| American Hardcore...Punk Rock documentary film Posted: 2/25/2008 11:58:16 PM | I'll have to see that. I was at all three nights of Hardcore 81, caught some of it on tape, and shot some pictures. I'm getting around to digitizing that stuff now. The Buddha was cool; it was the first place I went to after I turned 19. I think the best band I saw there was a Braineaters performance where they had two drummers.
Is anyone reissuing the Smilin' Buddha T-shirts? I don't know what happened to mine. I remember some of the quotes on the back: "Canada's Finest Nightclub" - Rolling Stone "A righteous joint" - Easyriders "You got ID?" - Igor
