Posted: 4/23/2005 5:02:55 PM | People are so quick to be mean to each other online, or screw w/someone's emotions cause they figure "oh its just online". I don't get it. Isnt that a real person sitting behind that keyboard typing those words? When I'm having a one-on-one conversation with someone (for example ims or email) they get the real me, my real emotions, my real feelings, I would never go around intentionally screwing w/someone's emotions or being mean, like so many people on here and on other sights do. Are they that rude in "real life". I was very very close to deleting my pof account, and I got some great wonderful emails from people who I consider my "friends" yep friends, even though physically I have never met them, they have a place in my heart that will be there forever, and it got me to thinking, how come more people arnt' like that. Do people assume that just because its online, that you can be as rude and as mean as you want to? I'm not mean or rude in real life, nor am I online. Rude people exist everywhere, but why post such negativity on the internet? Does that make a person feel better about themselves? I guess it will be something I dont understand...
So how about you...do you view others on here as "real people" , or what? | |

Well hi there i thought i would reply to this, well i agree with what you are saying there are some nasty people living in this society and they just don't care who they upset or who's emotions they mess with, if everyone in this world were all nice people we wouldn't have all this bad crime in the world has well,
so i like to say who ever i speak to from this keyboard i don't judge people or mess with people's emotions in anyway, everyone is a person and i would like people to treat me the way i would expect to treat people and that goes with out saying with some good honest
RESPECT, i hope more people like me and you SWEETKRISTINE can look at this and think long & hard about other people's feelings & emotions

Sometimes putting up a personal ad is the same thing as going "abuse me, here I am" to some of the trollers out there. I guess they always run out of fresh victims. they can get away with it!

The people who know you well should be what matters,and knowing who you are
is all that matters!
A lot of people are mean,they live to be this way,just like fleas on a cat or parasites
on a bull,just there to agrevate the sh*t out of you!
It gets me too,and I tend to defend anyone under attack,and I have a smart way of doing
it!
however if that don't work,i just ignore them completely,they just too dense to ven bother
with!
Nothing a pain in the a$$ hates more then being ignored,'cause they can't get you going,
wich in turn pisses them off,that way there you win the battle without doing a thing or
wasting any energy!
You're a good woman from what I've seen so far,so be proud of that and the heck with
ignorant arragant people o.k.!
You still got your friends on pof and in your life,and one day mr.right will be at your door!

There are those few that do exist i'm aware of that. I just haven't really met them that I know of... or have I? I'm still waiting for stuff to come up like "oh i'd like to be with you, I really do.. it's just that my bf of the last umpteen years is moving in with me." or something like that.. :p My trust runs low which is ok.. so do my feelings till I see before my eyes all that I need to see to believe. :)

example...i got pissed and took my pics off cuz some jerk fishmailed me today giving me his phone number wanting me to call him for a date...as if... i was fishin..and i didnt get back until this afternoon...by which time there was a nastier fishmail from the guy...talkin about what kinda of headgames was i playin...so i wrote him and told him if he wanted to get to know me to come to the forums...i wasnt interested in meeting him for a date at this time...
suddenly he is callin me a psychotic game playin biotch.......cuz i was advertisin fer a date on this site and he didnt see why i would nt take what i was askin for........and once again i got blocked by someone...demmit..........and he sounded like a real prince too........
but thas allright...i just posted a pic of me first thing in the morning...pre coffee...no makeup no hairbrush..and another one where i am kissin a dog.......that will keep his kind at bay maybe......

I would have to agree that there are lot of wackos and freaks on here. That care nothing about someone else's feelings. People have no common decency anymore. The ones I don't like are the ones you talk to that don't have the guts to tell you that they are not interested. They just let you wonder if they are just being nice or might be interested and won't say. I just want the truth and then I can move on to the next possible person that I find interesting. I always try to let everyone I talk to in the first couple of emails my intentions. I always start as friends and if it goes well I will let that person know. I try not to rush to judgement and hurt someone feelings. I have feelings too and want the same in return. People please try to be nice to others and respect their feelings.
Do unto others as you would want done to you. Yea I know freaks this doesn't mean you can say aweful things to people. Respect one another Please. | |

Posted: 4/23/2005 5:39:05 PM | Anonymity does many things for people.....be it a positive or negative thing.....shy people can come out of their shell......quiet people can find a voice......mean people can allow their anger to burst like a boil infecting others.....people that feel they have been walked on can give as good as they have gotten.....sadly to a lot of people this isn't real......I think they assume the words appear here magically.
I have met many people from online in my time and I think of the people I connect with as "real".....I have made some wonderful "realtime" friendships with people that have started online. Some of us do connect on a deeper level and we get it....there is a real live human being behind the keyboard.....someone who laughs, thinks and even cries from time to time.
I feel for you SweetKristine and I hope you will change your mind about leaving.....for every 10 a$$es out there you know there is 1 amazing spirit waiting to be a friend or more. Keep your chin up.....block the negative and allow the positive to infuse you. | |

I think it is not only the fact that people are sitting comfortably behind their keyboards that makes online dating difficult, it is also the negative perception of online dating on the part of people in general and of users themselves. In short, if the person you are chatting with or exchanging emails with is doubful, embarrassed, or just plain not serious, then yeh he/she will behave that way online. Then there are those net heads who spend so much time on this medium that the lines between cyberworld and the real world become blurred. Blocking and deleting you from their real "lives" becomes as much of an automatic response as it does online. | |

I agree...some of these idiots...term used loosely...want to hurt as many people as they can, and anonymity (sp?) is the only way they can do it.
Is it a sense of power with them? Ego trip? Betcha these are lonely, miserable people.
My theory is....if you can make someone's life better, do it. If you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything.
