| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/11/2007 4:45:34 PM | Fedor vs. Coutour Shogun vs. Chuck Lidell Dan Henderson vs. Anderson Silva Takanori Gomi vs. George St. Pierre Last weekend in Tokyo, Pride held the very first Pride vs. UFC match. Jeff Monson defeated Fujita by submission to earn UFC their first victory over pride.
Any predictions or thoughts on these upcoming fights??
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/12/2007 3:32:47 PM | | It's all about Mirko Crocop that guy is a beast | |
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/12/2007 7:31:49 PM | Fedor Shogun Henderson Gomi over Serra.
Pride 4 - UFC 1. | |
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/13/2007 11:58:21 AM | Before Crocop participates in any "dream" matches. He first needs to concentrate on his upcoming opponents. Gabriel Gonzaga won't be an easy task, but after he defeats him he'll get a shot at Coutour.
I don't think Gomi can compete with UFC's top welterweights. Gomi's last fight was an embarassment when he got submitted by Nick Diaz. Gomi's performance was a joke.
Whether its Matt Serra, Matt Hughes, or George St. Pierre.....I'd bet money on any one of them over Gomi. Japenese fighters are growing stale, they just don't have the physical strength and power to compete with these new breed of fighters.
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/15/2007 3:45:20 PM | | Gone-Zaga as he's being called was TKO'd by Werdum.. Cro Cop wont have any problems. He's too fast, too strong and too good to be beaten by this B level Fighter. Just another fight to milk his contract. | |

This is SOOO wrong. Try watching some more Shooto before you say this.
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/15/2007 6:22:23 PM | | there is no pride vs ufc now, all the rules are the same and all the fighters contracts belong to ufc now that ufc has bought pride | |
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/15/2007 7:11:35 PM | | You're wrong. Zuffa LLC wants to make it like the NFL.. Pride will be like the AFC and the UFC will be like the NFC. nice try tho. | |
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/16/2007 10:02:42 PM | Zuffa owns Pride now, and they claim they want to maintain two seperate organizations, and have interpromotional cards once or twice a year. Unfortunately, they've already started cherry picking Pride's talent pool, so by the time they come around, most of these 'superfights' won't be Pride v UFC, as all or most of these guys will be UFC fighters.
As for rules, we'll see. I figure we'll likely see the cage show up in Pride by year's end, more's the pity. On the other hand, the UFC has been trying to get head kicks to a downed opponent legalized for a while now, so that'll probably stay constant.
now... Fedor vs. Coutour: Nowadays, Couture's biggest strength is his mental prep work and strategy. He beat Sylvia by using tactics that don't work in most fights, exploiting holes in Sylvia's game. Fedor's prep work is at least as good as Randy's, and his cardio is nearly endless. Randy was pretty fatigued by R3 against Big Dim, and that will/would happen sooner agianst Fedor, who will test him more. Fedor.
Shogun vs. Chuck Lidell: This comes down to rules. Chuck has a good chance in the cage, under UFC rules, but he doesn't do well in a ring, and if Rua has the face stomping option, he'll make good.
Dan Henderson vs. Anderson Silva: Silva. Hendo hits hard, but swings wild. Anderson has the technique to avoid damage. Hendo can take it down if he decides he needs to, but again, lacks the skills to Finish Silva. I'd say Hendo would try to slug it out, get caught, and go for the takedown, where Anderson locks him up while he's still reeling.
Takanori Gomi vs. George St. Pierre: I wouldn't be quite so hard on Gomi. Something looked wrong with the Diaz fight. He started very strong, and (in my opinion) faded too quickly in the first to have just run out of gas. I wouldn't be surprised if he'd managed to injur himself somehow in there. That said, GSP by RNC. St Pierre would more than likely be able to close, and from there his strength and wrestling would exploit Gomi's ground game, which isn't the best around.
Serra, though, could also finish Gomi on the ground, but I think he has less of a chance of taking the fight there. Gomi's hands are very fast, and I think he'd be able to use the reach advantage better than St Pierre did.

| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/21/2007 8:45:03 AM | Fedor woul reak cotour period. hes ranked number 1 in the world standings(says FightNetworkTV). hes beat crocop(which was one hell of a match). Chuck Liddle is ranked #1 as LH but wont be after Quiton Rampage Jackson beats him at UFC 71. | |
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/21/2007 9:00:31 PM | | well what happened to cro cop......what comes around goes around... | |
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/22/2007 11:09:22 AM | | lol i retract my statement... but it was still a good kick though | |
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/22/2007 5:10:06 PM | From what I read when UFC joined forces with Pride, is that ground stomping was going to end and Pride will now have to fight under Nevada commision rules.
Its going to be a classic heavyweight title fight between Gonzaga and Coutour. From what we seen outta Gabriel there is no telling who will come out on top here.
...and yes I still stand my ground saying that Japenese fighters suck and can only compete in the lightweight division. Gomi's still a loser, no excuse for losing to a piece of crap Nick Diaz. Thats just a discrase to all his fans.
Has anyone caught Sokoujou yet?? I'd like to see him compete against the UFC after he's done diminating all the pride fighters in his division.

Have you ever been to Japan? GSP would be a big man there. The fact is that there are very few big Japanese men. The lightweight div in Shooto is FAR and AWAY deeper than UFC. Saying that Japnese fighters suck is foolish and uneducated. Check out guys like Lion Takeshi, Kid Yamamoto, Okami (who just beat Swick), Tamura, and Non Japanese fighters like Shields, Hansen and Antonio Carvalho.
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/24/2007 7:18:28 PM | | Right on, Sprawl. All I'll add is another coulple of names worth youtubing: Rumina Sato and Shinya Aoki. | |
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/24/2007 9:43:17 PM | | ... dont forget guys like Ryo Chonan and Daiju Takase, two guys who have beat UFC's present and very talented Middleweight champ. | |
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/25/2007 3:42:58 AM | yep... Fedor is simply a machine! He's been ranked the Best Fighter in the World pound for pound for 3 (three) years in a row. I love Couture, but against the likes of Fedor? Fedor all the way.
Now Shogun vs. Liddell would be good. Shogun won the Pride GP 2005 tournament in such a dominant fashion I wouldn't put it past him to beat Liddell. The dude destroyed Quinton "rampage" Jackson, Ricardo Arona, Alister Overeem, and even Antonio Rogerio Nogueira!!! Even after I watch the fight now.. just amazing.
It would be nice though if they had Pride Rules in the UFC cage though. +being able to use elbows.
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/26/2007 9:39:13 PM | Fedor IS a machine.. til someone comes and breaks him like Mirko. And the speed at which MMA is progressing, that wont be long.... | |

Yes. I met the man and watch him train. He'll do well. He was caught by Glover Tiextera.. He took the fight on under a week's notice.. In a rematch he'd destroy the guy. Thierry will beat a lot of people. He's got a strong take down defense, and hands made of bricks. Only man to knock out a Nog.
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/27/2007 6:28:56 PM | Nicest:
Yes, both awesome fighters. My instructor fights in the Shooto lightweight division.
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/28/2007 10:11:49 AM | I was impressed with his take down defence against Arona. All that Judo background looks like its paying off.
I've still yet to see Sokoudjou work on the ground but so far his game looks flawless.
|
| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/28/2007 4:21:14 PM | really?
I believe alot of these asian fighters are poorly conditioned in the higher weight classes....but they dominate in the flea weight divisons

I've seen him roll with Quest's BJJ coach. I dont think he'll be submitted easily. but anyone can be caught.

| UFC Vs. Pride Posted: 4/30/2007 7:24:47 PM | So sprawl..I think I got you tagged! You train at Justin Bruckmanns dont you?
