remarrying the same person

I have a friend who has gone through a very painful divorce. The woman he married was twice divorced already and has two teenage daughters whom she lets run everything. She filed for divorce after my friend yelled at one of her daughters for being disrespectful (which she was frequently). Thing is, he still wants very much to be a part of this family. He holds out a faint hope that they will remarry someday. He knows at least a few couples who have successfully remarried after divorce, which makes him believe it is a realistic hope to hold onto.

Is this hope at all realistic? Anybody know of successful "same spouse remarriages"?

My grandparents did that, and lived happily ever after. I suppose it would work sometimes but from what I've seen, when people split at least one of them wants the other dead, usually.
