I'm also a huge fan of Almost Famous. Oooooh pretty boy band!
|
| Local bar bands ????????????? Posted: 4/18/2007 12:11:57 PM | I heard a band the other day....Daisy Dukes I think...They were really good!
I also like Atomic Candy, though there last show I saw at Live kindda sucked...they let other people from another band come and sing a song...which is fine, but they let the whole show go...and well...it wasn't entertaining anymore...But thats one show in 8 years. so Ill see them again!

| Local bar bands ????????????? Posted: 4/20/2007 2:54:55 PM | ^^^Somebody's got good taste. The Stiff Bishops and The Wind-Ups played Hooligan's last weekend and tore the place up. Or was it down? Whatever... it was an awesome show!
Add The English Moccasins to the list and you've got the holy trinity of the local bar band scene. Or is that unholy? Whatever... they're all great!
You're gonna want to get up and shake your moneymaker when any of these bands takes the stage.... 'cause being at one of their shows feels like there's a party in your pants - and everyone's invited!

| Local bar bands ????????????? Posted: 5/14/2008 7:40:38 PM | Oh how I miss that Spellingbee!!
I saw a great band on the weekend...I understand they don't play much but it was a Cancer Care fund raiser and they were absolutley INCREDIBLE!!
There was a lovely lady in the band and when she sang..."Old Souls" from the Phantom of the Paradise!! Well that just sealed the deal!! They had the place up dancing all night long!!
The band is called.. .." The Fighting Hellfish" . .if you ever have opportunity to see them!! JUST DO IT!!

| Local bar bands ????????????? Posted: 5/14/2008 7:44:29 PM | Also check out the Wind Ups if they are playing a gig. These guys are super cool and every show I've seen they've excelled at bringing crowds to their feet to dance or applaud. | |
|
| Local bar bands ????????????? Posted: 5/14/2008 7:52:39 PM | Ooops, didn't notice the late great Pepper Brooks and Spelly on this so I dredged up the Wind ups again. Uhm, Already mentioned Rhinos and Banshee earlier too....geez... Uhm, not local but here at Ozzy's in June are The New Duncan Imperials, who usualy play at the Albert but I assume its not available. Oh, locals, uhm right,....uh...Winnipeg Celtic Pipe Band. Way cool pinch hitters for the Cameron's at the Scottish pavilion last year at Folklorama.

| Local bar bands ????????????? Posted: 5/15/2008 7:27:56 AM | Not current bands, but all this talk about local bands had me thinking about my two favorite bands from the Albert, back in the day..........
Joe Puke and the Chunky Bits
Society's Grudge
The music wasn't the best, but the names kicked ass!
|
| Local bar bands ????????????? Posted: 5/15/2008 1:26:04 PM | I haven’t been to the Albert in years, last band I saw there was the Chocolate Bunnies from Hell.
A lot of memories from the Royal Albert… it was one of the few bars that would let us in when we were 15.
Edit: I just found out that the Albert has a web page on MySpace... Teenage Head is playing in June, their not local but, Sakatchewan is close enough.
|
| Local bar bands ????????????? Posted: 5/15/2008 1:54:47 PM | | Just googled Teenage Head (you brought back some memories), and got onto their "official" webpage............jeez, the picture of them has me thinking they should consider changing their name from "Teenage Head" to "MiddleAgeDudesWhoClearlyDidWayTooManyDrugsBackInTheDay Head" | |
|
| Local bar bands ????????????? Posted: 5/16/2008 10:52:41 AM | | It certainly brought back memories for me also in regards to Teenage Head. I remember drinking beers with Frankie Venom ( vocals) at the old Wellingtons basement. I like all there music, but I have to say the album'' Frantic City'' is a classic. I will be at the Albert for sure! There new cd is very good with Marky Ramone. | |

| Local bar bands ????????????? Posted: 5/17/2008 7:47:49 AM | Kenny Shields AKA Streetheart.... LONG TIME favorite from the Junior High and highschool ski trip jaunts and all round good ole fun time growing up in the 80's Bar Band. Havent seen these guys since New years '97 At Panorama Ski Resort but theyre called THE TRAVOLTAS... awesome disco/dance band that kinda travels the ski resort circuit all winter... not sure if they tour in the summer.... All that old ABBA dance music from the 70's and every other wicked disco tune everyone would dance too just cuz youre drunk enough and having a damn good time. Wholl lotta angus... just cuz its acdc set kinda rocks. | |

| Local bar bands ????????????? Posted: 5/17/2008 7:55:42 AM | Well I'm dating myself (I'm not sure that sounds right on this site), tonight at the Pyramid ($15) there is a tribute to Dianne Heatherington, which will feature a bunch of local musicians, including a reincarnation of the legendary Junior Barnes.
I'd be there, but I've made other plans.
|
| Local bar bands ????????????? Posted: 5/17/2008 2:29:30 PM | | Carebello is playing at the Spike tonight, have heard them once before and they were pretty good. I really liked Mother Groove - heard them a couple of times. Great band. | |
