| Graphics programs suggestions Posted: 4/15/2007 5:24:12 PM | Hi,
I wonder if anyone can recommend a very cheap or free program that will let me take scanned-in bitmap images and convert them to eps files, or some similiar, lower-memory format. I would also like to be able to lay out the new file on a rulered page and have the ability to resize it proportionally or stretch it to certain sizes.
I have a book full of duty-free art I'd like to scan in and resize to make wood-burning templates. I used to have this sort of functionality back in the days when I was using Coreldraw 2.0, but I'm not even sure that program would work on my modern computer. Plus, I figured by now, there'd be freeware or shareware that had that low level of functionality.
Any suggestions?
Thanks... | |

If you're doing something simple you could try one of the free online photo editors (just google for them).
If you want to convert things to eps (and you're on Windows) you can use a PostScript printer driver (which you can download free from Adobe website) to print anything to a file and then use GhostScript to convert it.
It's late and I can't be a***d to hunt around for all the URLs for you, just use google.
Hope this helps. | |

And thanks, but I know how to use google. I was just hoping someone on here had a similiar usage situation and had an quick answer. | |

Inkscape is a free program that does vector graphics stuff similar to CorelDraw. I never used it, my brother showed it to me. I don't do much graphics stuff. :) http://www.inkscape.org/
If you use Windows, make sure you download the *Windows* version of these programs as they are available for several operating systems.
Have fun! | |
