| SUGGESTION: Track how many times a user has unread/deleted emails Posted: 4/28/2007 9:09:29 AM | I posted this in my reply about the new (female only) option to put men on the "do not date list" but I figured it would more appropriately posted here as it's own thread.
I think it would be wonderful to add a feature to the site that informs you how many time a user has "unread/deleted" messages before you take the time to compose one.
You could click on the "Send user a message" and then it'd say:
This user has unread/deleted 4,239 messages in the last "X".
That way, you could save yourself the effort of writing something that would likely never even be read.

The Do not Date feature seems like something only hard, hard, hard core POF-ing females can benefit from (Where are these women whom network with eachother and need a means of streamlined gossip?)
However your suggestion for the unread/deleted emails is going to save EVERY guy a lot of time.

Why do you care how many unread deleted there are? Ever stop to think maybe they're unread deleted for a reason? Like maybe the person lives on the opposite ends of the earth, or looking for a one night stand, or someone to drive the getaway car? What about the guy who writes about wanting submissive women in his profile...why would she bother even reading the email?
Or what if she had been talking back and forth with someone and they started getting harrassing..she decided that instead of fueling the fire she'd just block him and delete his last email to her so she didn't have to read the insulting remarks he wrote?
I love it when people jump to conclusions and assume.
It is great that you mention exceptions. As a programmer myself, I know that it is possible to account for exceptions. But it is impossible to program around exceptions no one thinks of.
For instance, the feature could be wired such that: 1. It only counts UNIQUE senders. So if one user sends one hundred messages, it still counts as one. 2. It only counts users that have never had a message go through read. 3. Only counts users messaging from within 75 miles (even if the receiver doesn't have the only within 75 mile limitation).

You know, i've not gone through the trouble of following EVERY thread you've posted on, but i have seen you on quite a few and you never seem to say ANYTHING remotely nice. Wonder why that is?
Anyway, I suggested this as a counterpoint to the "undateable" feature that you can currently* use to blacklist ME in a completely inappropriate way. THAT feature is just as prone to abuse. Pretty much ANYTHING that can be used for good can be used for evil.
*[edit] The "undateable" feature was apparently so unpopular it's already been removed.

This user has unread/deleted 4,239 messages in the last "X"
Wouldn't this be less personal as a percentage? For example: "You have 0% chance this person will reply to your messages"
There could be a thing like the poftest page that sorts the people in your area into the most likely to reply to your message.
Everyone starts off at 100% when they first join and they lose percentage points for every email they read and collect or read and delete. Having a spam/scam/offensive checkbox that discounts these lost points when deleting.
Perhaps have the script reset after so many days (like the 30 days for the roses)

| Feature Suggestion: Track how many times a user has unread/deleted emails Posted: 10/27/2007 7:16:53 AM | | I don't think this feature would work. Even if two people read, and respond to, each other's initial emails, in most instances someone decides not to continue the exchange at some point. Why penalize the person that decides to end an exchange by deciding to not respond to the other person's last email (for whatever reason)? | |

| SUGGESTION: Track how many times a user has unread/deleted emails Posted: 1/14/2008 9:25:59 PM | That way, you could save yourself the effort of writing something that would likely never even be read. if one isn't willing to put a bit of effort here, what happens when you get to a relationship?
Well if we are going to give women the ability to black list guys, then why not add this feature. It actaully makes more sense to me than the new "undateable" feature. I'd love to see this feature. A) invasion of privacy - too many variables render this statistic useless and would set off another wave of analysis paralysis more than "what does the number of favourites mean?.
The Do not Date feature seems like something only hard, hard, hard core POF-ing females can benefit from B) too much room for abuse
I think this would be a really good idea. It gets really annoying to go through the trouble of composing a thoughtful email to someone, only to find it was unread/deleted. unread/deleted?
- set realistic aspirations - perhaps a wake up call to wander over to the Profile Review Forum
The site has had these schemes suggested numerous times, see points A and B above.
