| THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO DO/Port Charlotte,Punta Gorda and Surrounding Area Posted: 5/8/2007 9:24:37 AM | While planning the Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda Luau, I put together and activities book for people to express the diffrent types of activities they would like to do in this area with new friends. I placed the Notebook on the sign-in table at the Luau. The responses were good, and people thought it was a great idea, so I am bringing the concept to the forums.
If there is something you would like to do in this area and are looking for others to meet for the same activity sign up on this thread. Or if you have some info to share with everyone please post it.
THINGS TO DO: WHERE: WHEN: 1)GO FISHING 2)GO HARLEY RIDING 3)HAVE MOVIE NIGHT 4)HAVE A BBQ 5)HAVE SINGLE PARENTS/FAMILY DAY at a park or the beach 6)PLANT A GROUP VEGI GARDEN 7)PLAY CARDS/BOARD GAMES 8)LEARN TO BELLY DANCE for the upcoming TOGA party 9)HAVE A CAR WASH PARTY 10)DO A DAY TRIP SOMEWHERE 11)GO TO CHARLOTTE COUNTY SPEEDWAY 12)GO TO DEVIL RAYS GAME
COMMENTS AND IDEAS:
(FISHING) I don't have a boat, yet enjoy the activity of going fishing. Where can we get a group of us together to fish without a boat? Where can we go night fishing?
(HARLEY RIDING) I'd like to get 4-5-6? Harley owners , together with 4-5-6 people who love to ride, and don't currently have a running Harley, for an activity-day trip or evening out.
(VEGI GARDEN) I am building some above ground planter boxes to start a vegi garden. I am looking for both people to help build the boxes, and people who want to garden, but don't have the time-or want to care for a garden alone. We will share the project and the vegi's. Above ground gardening is easier on your back and has less weeds.
ANYONE INTERESTED IN MY IDEAS OR HAVING OTHER IDEAS LET ME KNOW I'll do all I can to keep it organized, ok, well, as organized as us crazy fish can be!!!
Have fun with it!! Kimmie

| THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO DO/ harley rides ??? Posted: 5/8/2007 10:58:21 AM | | Kimmie: Persuant to our conversation i would be willing to volunteer as the point person for this thread... therefore, if any harley owners, male or female, would be willing to provide a seat for a guest passenger let me know!! naturally, if there are any ladies or guys who would like to ride as a guest passenger let me know as well. The idea here is to match rider & passenger. I realize there will be some ego's involved. I will be the first to admit i have rode as a passenger behind a highly qualified Harley ridin' female biker.. If there is any interest we can give it a try!!! Naturally this is not open to only those who ride Harleys!! I am brand loyal so i use harley in place of motorcycle !! Please bring your interests & ideas. this will only be as successful as the participants are motivated. bruce | |

| THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO DO/ harley rides ??? Posted: 5/8/2007 11:09:09 AM | Bruce, thanks for joining in. When you say you like to ride "Tank to Tank" how many mile does a tank cover approximately? Are you into destination trips, or going where-ever the road leads us? When I lived in Cape Coral-they had "ride nights "once a week and people would meet up along the route. For example if some riders started Downtown at Centenial park then went to say Bell Tower Mall, other riders would meet them there, then they would proceed to the beach, and others would join in along the route. We could do something similar in this area. Anyone else with ideas please join in. I personally like evening rides. Kimmie | |

| THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO DO/ harley rides ??? Posted: 5/8/2007 11:26:47 AM | | kimmie: the tank to tank thing can vary quite alot. i have got about 200 miles on my dresser. however, i used to have a sportster with a peanut tank that gave me 75 miles. One would have to ask the riders how far they can go and stop before the smallest tank needs gas. there are all kinda options available. it depends upon the interest of the participants. we will have to see what interest is generated. bruce | |

| THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO DO/ harley rides ??? Posted: 5/8/2007 12:50:43 PM | Bruce, I just got an E-mail from a guy in Bradenton, who rides. Planning out a route for a ride to include people from diffrent areas, with meet up times, could be fun. I know you are active with "causes", and if you could help put together a ride that "had a purpose" some time (as well as local evening rides), I think it could be fun. I know you are working tonight so we can do some brainstorming, and see what comes up tommorrow.
Anyone else with ideas, please join in!!! Kimmie

| THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO DO/ harley rides ??? Posted: 5/8/2007 12:59:27 PM | Me, Me, Me.. ........I'll go for a ride and I'll build a box and plant a garden! Thanks for organizing this thread Kimmie and thanks for offering to be the point person for a ride, Bruce.
OK.......who's going to organize a fishing gig????????? I'll be the first to sign on for that one too..........laffs.........I don't own a boat and when I go fishing all I ever reel in is either rocks at the jetties or alligators out at Myaka State Park, so I need ALL the help I can get!
Oh heck............OK.......so I'll be up for the belly dancin' too! What the heck, can't make myself look anymore foolish than when I did the hula! Maybe Michael's daughter would be interested in teachin' a school of clown fish how to belly dance..........what do you think, Michael?????

| THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO DO/ harley rides ??? Posted: 5/8/2007 1:11:18 PM | Lynda, I was telling Bruce, what a wonderful, High energy Lady you are, we will brainstorm about the gardening. I'm no better at fishing than you say you are, so we will have to really stick together, while the pro's show us how to do it!! And, as far as a ride is concerned, do you guys like the idea of planning a night that we can all "check in" and see who wants to ride on any given week? Say maybe Wed Night? It's probably a good night for a peaceful evening ride. I suggested Wed Night because I know you work Mon/Thurs evenings, and Bruce works Tues/Thurs. nights. Then we can also, plan an out of town "tank to tank" ride- for something special-on a weekend . Kimmie | |

| THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO DO/ harley rides ??? Posted: 5/8/2007 1:17:10 PM | Smiles.........well since I'd be one of the "passengers", I guess ultimately it would have to be up to the riders regarding planning a night. I do know that there is an organized group ride every Wednesday already in place. Bruce would be better able to address that. I'm always up for a ride so I'll just go "along with the ride" however it best plans out..........grins.......
Thank you for the lovely compliment, dear Kimmie. I'm looking forward to working with you on the garden. I'm off now to hook up with one set of kids for the evening...........talk with you soon!

| THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO DO/Port Charlotte,Punta Gorda and Surrounding Area Posted: 5/8/2007 5:04:49 PM | Kimmie, there are some fishing spots near me in Bradenton (i.e. Anna Maria City Pier, South Sunshine Skyway Pier, Beer Can Island. You have to pay to go on the Sunshine Skyway Pier (I think it is a $7 admission charge) but Anna Maria City Pier & Beer Can Island are free. Beer Can Island, you have to walk to from the Longboat Key bridge, but Anna Maria City pier is accessible by trolley.
For those that are looking for something unusual & also to get exercise, there is a disc golf course at North Charlotte Regional Park (off of O'Donnell Ave. S. of US 41 near the US41/Toledo Blade Rd. signal light.
I think there is also a boxing gym in Punta Gorda someplace for those people that are into boxing.

| THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO DO/Port Charlotte,Punta Gorda and Surrounding Area Posted: 5/9/2007 2:47:46 AM | Taxman, You amaze me with all you know about -what goes on in this area-thank you for your input.
Bruce it seems we are collecting several "riders". and need more Bike "Owners", willing to provide rides. Riders-please be prepared to assist with gas expense-or offer to buy refreshments for our gracious hosts. My count at this point is Drivers: Bruce Riders: Kim, Jerry, Lynda, Laurene Jerrys' daughter is a cheerleader and can show us how to do a stack on the back of Bruces Bike.....Not!!!
We may have to wait until next Wed Night-giving us time to find more drivers, unless Bruce can get some other ABATE members to join us. Starry Night Mark is willing to join us, he said "just let me know where and when". I don't know if this evening is too short of notice. Jerry and I are interested in going tonight, if we can work things out. Bruce where would you suggest we meet and at what time? I'll continue to contact Harley owners amoung the POF'ers, and we will see how things progress thru-out the day. By the way-Jerry and I are looking to buy a bike-if anyone knows of one for sale-that they would recommend(know the owner has taken good care-etc.)

| THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO DO/Port Charlotte,Punta Gorda and Surrounding Area Posted: 5/9/2007 8:53:59 AM | Thanks to everyone who E-mailed me today, about the HARLEY RIDE NIGHT.
I think, even thouGh it is short notice , that we should plan on going for the ride tonight. Bruce,Joe, Mark, and "the-non-poster" as drivers/Jerry, Lynda,Laurene and myself as the riders! God sure is good. I went to rest a little while, and slept 4hrs to get up and see it is all worked out perfect. (For those of you who don't know , it's not that I'm a slacker-Jerry and I get up at 3:30 in the morning, because of his job/last night after his daughters school event it was midnight before I was asleep/I just don't function well with night after night of 3hrs sleep!/so I got on line this morning then, layed down "for a few minutes"..,) SOooooooooo Drivers thank You, , we will meet with the ABATE group at their designated location and pair up "Drivers and Riders". Anyone from POF wanting to join in, write in so we know you are coming/or in you don't to Post just show up. Be prompt, I hear the leader of the ride "waits for No-one" See you there! Kimmie

| Jerry has turned me into a Morning Person!! Posted: 5/10/2007 3:44:15 AM | Thunder rollin' in the evening last night, as the sun goes down; and Birds chirpin' in the mornin' as the sun comes up!! Early Birds...out there..what do you like to do??? In the early mornin? Things you would like to do with a group? Group of say 6 people? How about meeting at the beach, stopin' on the way to pick up breakfast.. sandwiches or danish, something light. And some coffee (or powerdrink/coke) or Juice(!!) to go with it. Then as we linger (to see who's showin' up) , eat and talk a little the cold sand on our bare feet is just tingling, and we will just have to start walkin'...............still talkin'.............but walkin'. The sun's getting warmer, slip of the jacket and tie it around your waist, and feel that sun on your shoulders.............Halt!! There I go again, ...got carried away...that sand was feelin' Sooooooooooooooo good! You get the picture? Think about it guys!!! What would you early birds like to do? Summers commin and soon Early Morning and Sundown are going to become the times of day that it is desireable to be out!! Post some ideas!! Love Ya'll, Kimmie | |

| chubby's the place to be on Thursdays!! Posted: 5/10/2007 10:26:03 AM | | Chubby's in Port Charlotte(4109 Tamiami Trail-right hand side going south) has 25cent wings Thurs. Jerry ,Mary, Laurene, and I will get there around 6:30, come join us. Kimmie | |

| chubby's the place to be on Thursdays!! Posted: 5/11/2007 3:55:17 AM | Bruce, it was good to see you last night at Chubbyz. I enjoyed becoming more educated about ABATE, what they stand for and what they are doing in the community.
Mary, it was nice to see you as well, too bad we didn't get more time to talk. That is a great looking ride you have. Jerry will get back to you about the two bikes you have for sale.
I asked my 75 yr old Aunt one time if she would meet me at a Devil Rays game sometime-she lives in northern Fla. (Aunt Betty played on softball teams in "her day"). 'Well, Kimmie, You know I love baseball, and I know the Devil Rays are our local team," (and she paused-looking down at the ground), ", I don't mean to hurt your feelings...but at my age if I'm gonna' ride in a car for 2hrs, and sit in a stadium..thru a whole game....the Devil Rays would have to be playin' the Marlins...'cause that's my team!!" She lifted her beer bottle to the sky as if to toast to the Marlins (we were sitting around a bon fire, at a family re-union last Christmas), and then she said, with a gleen in her bright blue eyes,"You let me know-Sweety!". So today I will be on the phone planning a trip to the Tropicana Stadium , Next weekend. Marlins-Vs-Devil Rays May 18/19/20...........I'm choosing the Sat Game
Aunt Betty is a hoot-has a great sarcastic sence of humor-she'll crack you up. She was a Bar Manage when I was growing up-an toss the biggest, dirtest, foulmouthed drunk out on his ear by just lookin at him a certain way. I'll get a block of tickets if anyone wants to join us!! (I know Taxman-will be the first one on the list-he is such a devoted Devil Rays fan!!...........Not). I'll hear about this one. Be sweet, Taxman or I'll leave sewing pins in your Toga costume!! Love Ya'll.............Kimmie

| chubby's the place to be on Thursdays!! Posted: 5/11/2007 5:03:52 AM | Hey Kimmie- Sorry I missed you guys last night. But being that I drive the company car and the Doc wanted me to drive him to the airport there was no way I could have been out partying with you guys. I have to get up at 3:45 am to drive to his house then on up to Tampa Apt. Then drive back to my office and open. So I'm sure it's going to be a long, long day for me. LOL
Missy- I've met some of the people from the Abate group and they are a great bunch. I was a back seater with them this past Wednesday evening. I plan on making it to Run a muck for sure. And Stonewall is awesome!!!
Bruce- If I don't see you prior to that I will have your chaps with me then. But, don't forget you still owe me a ride.
|
| chubby's the place to be on Thursdays!! Posted: 5/11/2007 6:14:52 AM | | Ms. Laurene: didnt have to work last nite. met at chubbyz. understand why you couldnt hang out. we will get the ride eventually. bruce | |
|
| chubby's the place to be on Thursdays!! Posted: 5/13/2007 8:29:25 PM | No rush bikerguy. You know where to find me. I'll be right here. LOL
I've heard from a few people who own kayaks that they would like to get some people together, so if anyone else is interested let me know and we will see what we can do.
|
| Kayaking sounds great!! Posted: 5/14/2007 11:12:34 AM | Laurene, I have never gone kayaking, yet,I'm sure a day gliding on the water soaking in the view for that vantage point, would clear the mind of a few "workaholics" amoung us.
For those who don't own kayaks, we will have to get info on renting them to join in the activity. For those who are experienced, if you would write in and share what you may know about desirable locations for a trip, as well as any cautions you may have as well.
I think this is a great Idea!!!
I've also heard about a group who want to go evening fishing on the weekend, so lets get some details on that activity as well.
I also wanted to follow up on the Co-op Gardening Group. Jerry and I are designing and making up the first 2-3 "garden boxes". They will be like a window box-except large enough to hold 4 tomato plants or 6 pepper plants. Raised gardens are so much easier to work with than "in the ground gardens". Lynda(Bella Lynda), since you have shown interest in this project, we will have to get together by phone and brainstorm!! I think it will work well if we have 10 people involved, rotating in teams of two, to work on the garden, for about a half hour every other day. Adding aditional garden boxes as members join up with us.
Tommorrow I will be shopping for tomato and Pepper plants as well as herbs. Does anyone have suggestions as to which ones grow the best in this area? Or what other vegi's should, and can be planted in mid-May? I haven't lived in Florida for many years and this will be my first vegi garden since returning to the area!! Help!!!
Harley riders, don't forget about HARLEY RIDE NIGHT wednesday, I hear Joe (Joecat) will be joining us this week!! Since you were sick, when we had the Luau, it will be good to see you, again!! Love you all, Kimmie
