Why don't they delete old threads on here ?

Does anyone else wonder why people regurgitate old threads, especially ones that have been in the graveyard for a few months, and someone is obviously so bored that they have trawled back pages and pages, and dug it up again ?

If I notice a thread which was started months ago, I don't bother to add to it, unless I have not bothered to take notice of the start date.

Wouldn't it be better if threads of more than say 6 months old, disappeared, and if people were that desperate to chat about something, they could start their own thread?

Does the age of a thread affect its relevance? I don't think that it does.

No, never.

If someone has something they wish to say on it, then they should be allowed, especially if they are a newbie, as they are so prone to creating new ones.

Also, it shows that the thread title was accurate (makes a bloody change) and that the newbie did a thread search.

Yes I agree they should either delete them, or archive them.

ladyjaxx, thats one of my 'wonders' too.

When I see a deeply buried thread appear and its been dug up by a relative newby, I think : how the hell did they find that?? .. and why?

I can see the merit in dragging a thread forward instead of starting a new one and risk having it deleted for the myriad of reasons that threads can be deleted for nowadays (and especially since we got deleting rights).

Some of the oldy but goody ones are good for a laugh every now and again, but the ones that make me laugh most are when the dragee hasnt realised how long ago the thread started and the original poster has long since left the site and they are addressing them with help like they are still here

it's moments like that that i just can't resist!

Thanks for voting not to delete Sprite !

What's wrong with this thread ? - well nothing in my opinion. Some people obviously don't acknowledge that it is important that some things are worthy of discussion!

What about a rule that if someone votes to delete a thread, they first have to post a new one themselves ?! A one in, one out basis.

And what about putting the start date alongside the thread title, so we don't waste our precious time, when there are more important things to do on here - like desperately trying to get a date!

Agree Fernilee.

Was this thread up for deletion? It's still showing the 'pick a reason' on my pc, so I didn't think anyone had voted for deletion.

Ah, well.........

Well, given that you have mentioned the site rules a couple of times, I'm surprised that you wonder when newbies actually bother to read and comply with them.

Thread searches are not age-dependent, so old threads will be resurrected from time to time.

As another poster said, why does a subject suddenly become redundant because it is old? Do topics just become obsolete because the OP is no longer on the site?

Then people point out when there is a new thread created with the same topics but where someone hasnt done a thread search, if we didnt have the facility to delete redundant threads and the older threads were deleted surely the same subjects would just go round and round and round...
