| Why Does It Seem That EVERYONE On This Site Rides Motorcycles??? Posted: 5/27/2007 4:56:22 PM | | Just curious....is there a reason so MANY users on this site are motorcycle enthusiasts? It seems like either everyone owns one or loves riding them. Are they really that popular because, when I'm on the road, I see so few of them? | |

| Why Does It Seem That EVERYONE On This Site Rides Motorcycles??? Posted: 5/27/2007 9:22:22 PM | Because it is so much fun!! and as the previous post said gas is so expensive. I am only going to use my car once a week and ride the bike to and from work everyday and for running back and forth to the grocery store. Bikers are a neat breed too, most nowadays are over the age of 45 and they have realised they can hit the open road and leave their worries behind and just relax and have fun. We have earned that right!!! Sally. | |

| Why Does It Seem That EVERYONE On This Site Rides Motorcycles??? Posted: 5/30/2007 4:45:19 PM | What difference does it make if we ride. Obviously the people who ask this question (no disrespect) haven't got a clue what it is like to ride!!! Freedom, peace, relaxtion, a real simple pleasure. Yes we have our problems too but hell, I'd take two wheels over being stuck in the rut everyday.
Maybe some of you who don't underdsstand what its like to ride or don't like the bikes period, should come out to a POF event and ride with us or maybe get lucky and biatch...then tell me what you think!

Nothing like having that fresh air in your face, wind in your hair, bugs in your teeth, and absolute freedom to go anywhere you want. It's an indescribable pleasure.
*Semi-tongue-in-cheek* Maybe you don't see many on the road because you don't do shoulder checks or look in your rear-view mirror!!
Call us crazy, but my man and I will ride every chance we get, winter or summer. If it's above 38ºF outside and there is no ice, snow, or water on the street, we're ridin'!! We rode on Christmas Day this year, and managed to get in five rides in January.

| Why Does It Seem That EVERYONE On This Site Rides Motorcycles??? Posted: 6/5/2007 3:33:26 PM | There's a group of us here in BC that do rides almost every sunday. We post them on the events threads and invite anyone without a bike to contact someone for a ride. We're going on our 28th ride this Sunday(since we started). It was on one of these rides last year that I met my future bride, who happens to ride and has her own bike(which is louder than mine...hmph)Next summer we are going to be riding accross Canada to Newfoundland then back through the states.....should be about 20,000 kilometers (12,500 miles)by the time we're home....Why do we ride?....Could you have an adventure like that in a car? I think not! It would just be a trip........not an adventure...........besides bikers are the best people...we don't look down on cage drivers......we have one too........we just feel sorry for them.hehehe Cheers | |

| Why Does It Seem That EVERYONE On This Site Rides Motorcycles??? Posted: 6/6/2007 4:53:03 AM | | I chaulk it up to "IT'S A GUY THING". Motorcycles are a typical male interest. So, as females reviewing male profiles, we see motorcycles commonly listed as an interest. While I have no problem with it for others, I do not want to ride one, so I put that information in my profile so as not to disappoint a guy who may believe that I will join him. (Before I get blasted, I know that there are plenty of females who enjoy motorcycles - my sister is one). Her new boyfriend is thrilled to find a chickie who enjoys riding with him. But alas - I will stand in the driveway and say Hey baby, have fun, drive carefully, have a good ride and I'll be here when you return. | |

Posted: 6/6/2007 9:48:14 AM | Aaaaaaaaah Cape, no ones gonna blast you if you don't want to ride, but I know you'd look so cuuuuuuuute on the back of mine. Riding promotes personal relations and emotional health, what other mode of transportation requires hugging and getting hugged? (Thats before we get on the bike) Also helpful for staying on once you start moving, if you get around to it. Still trying to figure out how to ride two up while sitting in front facing backwards. Mine was almost like Fist's when I got it, in pieces and makes it extra special when people appreciate what you've built. People with horses get the same enjoyment, we just don't have the stall to clean. And I guess your rides could definately be called an adventure........ kilted guy

| Why Does It Seem That EVERYONE On This Site Rides Motorcycles??? Posted: 6/9/2007 8:06:05 AM | I would echo all the things said so far in this thread. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that it is a great hobby. Riding itself is the biggest part but by no means the only part. Customizing, tinkering, shining, tuning, maintaining, talking with other riders, going to bike shows and gatherings - all are part of "riding". Riders also have something that few other groups (for lack of a better word) have. Kinship! 99% of riders are the friendliest people you can meet. Whether it is Mom and Pop on a Goldwing or a totally freaky looking dude on an ancient hard tail - all will gladly smile and befriend you. And the only time you will see a rider on the side of the road by himself is the time that goes by until the next rider comes along! That's something you won't see often if you have car trouble.
But I fully respect everyone's choice to ride or not. If you choose not however, PLEASE keep an eye out for those of us that do. We appreciate that more than you can know!!!

| Why Does It Seem That EVERYONE On This Site Rides Motorcycles??? Posted: 6/9/2007 11:43:51 AM | I don't have a motorcycle..but sure wish I did or had access to one! When I see a biker or a group of bikes going down the road.. I get that feeling of missing out! Of knowing the freedom and sense of adventure they are experiencing...Knowing that there is a special connection they all have.. Have you ever noticed.. bikers wave ( or acknowledge) each other.. even it they have never met! ( Don't see anyone in vehicles sending kindness to each other) I grew up in rural Ontario and ... we waved at everyone... Which now looking back I understood as a way to acknowledge each other . A sense of caring... of looking out for each other ... Rather than whining and judging... of which there is far too much of...
The OP's question is kinda like asking, "why does everyone on this site want to be loved"? ? .... Why do we want to do anything? because it feels good! IF you find something you really enjoy and it is not causing harm to another ...then "hats off to you"..go for it...
Ah another rainy day here in the lower mainland... with naught to do but read and respond to forums.....

Posted: 6/9/2007 10:27:24 PM | Well I sorta lost that loving feeling! When in my 20's me and a friend took a rode trip from Louisville ta Las Vegas... On the way there my leg hit that hot %&%pipe, and that my friend was a rap for me....Plus when I first joined nothing but bikers would e-mail me!I think it has nothing to do with the bikes per-say, I was just not into the riders is all..Live long and Ride hard if thats your cup of tea.

| Why Does It Seem That EVERYONE On This Site Rides Motorcycles??? Posted: 6/10/2007 8:18:39 AM | Yes - you definitely want to keep skin away from the exhaust! With some bikes that is hard to do unless you are particularly mindful of it. But it will usually happen only once! Even riders with pants and boots watch out for it - scraping burnt flesh off the chrome is easy - getting that black melted rubber from the heel of your boots off can be tough.
There is one other vehicle I have seen others recognize. I had a Jeep for a while (not an SUV type - a real 4WD Jeep) and fellow Jeep drivers always waved. For a while I was wondering "Do I know that person?", but I caught on shortly. So bikers and jeepers are unique breeds. He11 - I even drove a school bus years ago and fellow school bus drivers didn't even wave to each other all the time like we do!
