I need to ask a question.Page 1 of 2    (1, 2)
If I find track / sweat pants to be a turn off, am I being shallow?

I find that track / sweat pants are sloppy and if people are wearing them for their normal daily routine and on a daily basis, then they look sloppy to me.

Help me out here.....thanks.....MT

Depends on your relationship with the person wearing them I suppose. Is it someone you are on a date with? If so, then I agree with you. But....... if they are on the street, jogging, or runing a quick errand, why not wear them. I wear them quite a bit as I'm usually working in the yard or house, thing like that where I dont want to get my good stuff grubby. If I have to make a quick dash to the store I really don't care to go to all the fuss of changing, my time is precious to me. On the other hand........LOL......whats with all the people wearing pajamas out in public? Are you advertising that you are quick to hit the sack?

Yeah, Mother, you're right.

They're called track pants because you're supposed to wear them when you're running around the track. At the very most, I think you could wear them when you're hanging out at home, mostly alone.

But don't wear them when you're with me, ok? Way too sloppy, they look like you just got out of bed and pulled on the easiest thing you could. Naa.

Yes, I am talking about going on a date with track pants on. The only clothing they own is track pants. So, it is track pants everywhere!

I agree if you are gardening then ya, wear em cause they are cheap and you dont need to ruin other clothing. But on a date, to work, shopping, to bed, and everywhere else there is.........yuck! I just think that they are sloppy! I think a person could clean up a little now and then......track pants to me are a real turn off, especially on a date.

Yeah, see Kitty? That's exactly where you should be wearing them. Just around. Not out (as in something other than errands).

But the people wearing pajamas, arent' they saying the same thing? Aren't they wearing them just around?

I don't think it's that shallow ... it's just a matter of personal taste. Some people hate 'em, some love 'em. Some don't care either way. I used to 'do' track pants during my mid-life crisis of a few decades ago, but once that was over, so was my liking wearing the d*mn things. A few months back I had a stomach hernia op and I had to buy two pairs of track pants from Walmart -- all I could wear. I tell ya, I was never so glad to heal up before. And that was just a few weeks ago, and the two pairs of track pants have already gone to the Goodwill Store.

cdn guy

Edit: Just read the posts above me about wearing them on a date ... You've GOT to be kidding !! (lol)

Tracks and sweats aren't necessarily tacky. Many of them are very stylish anymore. I have quite a few that are stylish and are trimmed in gold lamay. Of course, I wouldn't wear those to work-out or jog. But even those that aren't trimmed in gold, can look very nice. It depends on who's wearing them and their sense of style and fashion. You wouldn't wear the tacky sweats that you do yard work in, out, and especially on a date, but some of the nice but casual sweats and track suits are perfecty acceptable to wear to the movies or to a casual restaurant.

I have to agree that "track" pants are very tacky to wear on a date. If you're attracted enough to go out with them, then you should be attracted enough to dress in something besides "jogging" clothes....

I own a couple pairs, but I only wear them at home in the winter when it's really cold and I'm lounging around, or I'm sick or something. (Not ratty ones, but nice ones.) I don't think I could stand wearing them on an every day basis, and I would never go out running errands, etc with them on. I know lots of people who do though, and hey, it's up to them how they want to present themselves. I can't imagine even thinking about wearing them on a date! Personal taste aside, I would think they'd want to present themselves a little better than that for a date. Like raerae said, there are some nice ones out there now a days, but on a date?! No way, lol!

...I am not a fan of track pants/sweats...as one of the above posters stated its ok if your alone. I see tons of people wearing them and it probably is very simpl just to slip on a pair....you also see pajama pants being worn all over town, mostly by the younger generation though. My daughter tried that and I made her go back in the house to change.

No one should wear ratty clothes unless it's unavoidable. I have worn old ratty clothes and regret it. I have to remind myself NOT to do it anymore.

I can find nice cheap good clothes on sale and at the thrift store. I never buy regular priced clothes.
Last year I got rid of my ratty clothes...(I did keep one pair of track pants.) tuka

If you don't like em you don't like em. That's not shallow it's personal choice. Personally I despise track pants so I won't wear em.

All people have their "comfort clothes" mine are pajama pants -- I'll do housework in them, but when I leave the house -- they stay home. I always have that 20 seconds to spare in my busy life to throw on outside appropriate clothing.

I believe you only get one chance to make a first impression -- so it better be a good one

Mine are kinda cute and very comfy, but unless I'm going somewhere where I could get dirty I would never wear them on a date!
Had someone do that, great first impression, loved the dirty t-shirt too, uha, uha.

Oh, man.... I just love my sweat pants. They're comfortable, mostly not too ratty, one set is pretty threadbare but that's ok- nothing is too very obvious. Of course I only wear them at home as pajamas, and wouldn't think of wearing them outside for anything, even a quick run to the car.

One of my neighbors ONLY wears sweats... big, baggy, 2 sizes-too-big, droopy, often stained and nasty sweats. But it's OK because that's what his mom dresses him in and he's only 3 and doesn't date yet.

Personally!

I find that sweatpants are a little too uncomfortable in the TN heat and very Tacky.

I prefer the "THONG THANG" All Righty Then!

OMG! Look what time it is..lol...Wonder if I need to hurry up and change my profile before someone gets the wrong impression of what I'm wearing on my first date.

In my opinion, the worst thing a person can do is to be fat (like me) and wear sweats to an all-you-can-eat buffet. that just has Pig written all over it. I have several pairs of sweats, but I usually wear them to sleep in winter, or to lounge around the house......or to actually go out and exercise in (rarely, tho). On a date?? The wearer must not want a second date.

It's ok to not like them, OP, it's just an opinion on clothing worn in public... I don't think it qualifies as "shallow". ~smile~

I guess if I'm invited on a date to go jogging together, they'd be appropriate to wear.
But I doubt if I'd be invited on such a date

In the winter I'll wear 'sweats' around the house sometimes. If I go out to walk (wheel) my dog I'll not worry over changing.
Dog doesn't want to wait for me to change either!

robin4wheels -

I so appreciate your attitude! Thanks!

Track/sweat pants - I have several pair and wearing some now - at home, by myself. I even state in my profile that I don't wear them in public so it's safe to say that I don't consider them appropriate public attire any more than pajamas in public.

On a date?!?! Oh my! 'What Not to Wear' would have a field day with that!

Track pants are very popular over here, especially with the kids--used to call them 'wind pants' when I lived in the States. They look great on late teens as casual dress, but I hate it when adults wear them. I hardly ever see standard track pants over here and I'm glad...other than running or working...maybe around the house doing chores...they have no place as far as I'm concerned.

Then again, my ex father in law needed to wear them because of limitations brought on by a stroke...used buy gobs of them when I'd visit home!
