| Lack of Intellectuals as Sex Symbols Posted: 5/30/2007 8:25:28 PM | | If women are attracted to a man's intellect, why does there seem to be a lack of intellectuals that are well known sex symbols? Can you name any? Instead woman seem to enthralled by Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise, not intellectuals like Noam Chomsky. The only reason for this that I can think of is because Hollywood marketing promotes pretty faces as sex symbols rather than the minds of intelligent men. | |

| Lack of Intellectuals as Sex Symbols Posted: 5/30/2007 8:47:37 PM | I think there's a whole lot of reasons intellectuals are not normally sex symbols. Part of it is the whole hollywood marketing thing, but I think it also has a lot to do with how much they're seen in public. You don't see photos of intellectual men and women in the paper or on the cover of magazines at the grocery store often, if at all. Also most intellectuals aren't really all that 'hot'. They don't have the eyes, hair, skin and body Brad Pitt has.
I personally would rather date a man with whom I can have an intelligent conversation over a man who has looks and no brain any day.

| Lack of Intellectuals as Sex Symbols Posted: 5/30/2007 8:59:28 PM | | Its because no one has romantic notions of a hot scientist in a lab discovering the secret to gravity. Its just not traditionally romantic, unlike almost every character actors like Brad Pitt and Jude Law play in movies, and the rock star, and the sports hero. | |

| Lack of Intellectuals as Sex Symbols Posted: 5/30/2007 9:11:56 PM | | Hollywood has a lot more money to promote people--and more to promote as their "sex symbols" are selling their products. "Intellectuals" are busy doing their thing... and probably have their own set of groupies as well... | |

| Lack of Intellectuals as Sex Symbols Posted: 5/31/2007 2:12:43 AM | | Dude. Didn't you see "A Beautiful Mind?" What's-his-name wasn't exactly being a sex-symbol, but it was his mind that was showcased as what what's-her-name was attracted to. This may also be of topic, but the movie "IQ" was also cool. A love story with one of the supporting roles being Einstein (mains are his niece played by Meg Ryan and a mechanic played by Tim Robbins). | |
|
| Lack of Intellectuals as Sex Symbols Posted: 5/31/2007 2:23:33 AM | maybe because intellectuals aren't respectful of emotions. they aren't quite mentally balanced. they are too left brainy and not enough right brainy.
hmmm left brain/right brain left wing/right wing liberal/conservative
just using my logical mind there

| Lack of Intellectuals as Sex Symbols Posted: 5/31/2007 2:43:58 AM | | Maybe because 'pleasing images' are more effective at provoking sexual feelings and the media has found that 'sex sells'. We are visual creatures after all. Yes intelligence is very important to many but when it comes to those raw sexual desires that's different. How many females would say something like 'Oh rocket scientists really makes my panties wet! Oh yes give it to me Mr Rocket Man!' Anyone? | |

| Lack of Intellectuals as Sex Symbols Posted: 5/31/2007 4:35:14 AM | Because we are animals...
Nature did not build us to be attracted to the minds of the opposite sex. We are attracted to how the opposite sex LOOKS! Especially for men. We need the opposite sex to look & smell good, so we get a stiffy, mate and have kids, keeping the species alive, etc...
Typically, intellectuals are geeky looking, bad hair, bad hygiene, very little common sense, or very bad social skills. All the things women don't like in men, usually these intellectuals posses in abundance...
Typically, the more intelligent a person is, the less attractive they are in societal norm, in terms of dating, sex, etc...
Maybe a few men & women who are intellectuals have nice bodies, face, hair etc, to go along with the looks, but then they intimidate the opposite sex, because they have too much, making the other feel inferior...
Honestly, it's a pretty simple answer. Intellectuals are typically physically ugly to the opposite sex...
i thought peter jennings was pretty damn hot.
But he was far from the intellectuals I think the OP is bringing up... Physicists, Mathematicians, Engineers, etc... You know, the real geeks of the world... When they talk, it's hard for us normal people to even understand what they are trying to say, etc...

| Lack of Intellectuals as Sex Symbols Posted: 5/31/2007 5:45:22 AM | I find Intellectual men extremely sexy - I dont know - I find a mans brain very stimulating and the more I talk to him and the more I find out about him and what he knows and where his stories can take me- I find that very very sexy. You are talking Hollywood and people who follow that whole thing- I dont follow that - I could not even tell you who the hottest star is right now - I have no clue and I have no interest. Sex Symbol - to tell you the truth- I have always found Albert Einstein in his younger years to be very handsome- If I would have been a young girl back in the day- I would have had a major crush on him. But then I think Bill Gates is hot - he is brilliant - go figure.
EDIT: Hey you down there- it is not about the money - he is brilliant - LOL!! He is!!!-

What an ignorant thing to say.
The Brads, Judes & Toms do a big fat nothing for me. I don't think they're stupid or anything (well.. maybe Tom Cruise is), but far as I'm concerned.. there's nothin there.
Give me Henry Rollins anytime!

| Lack of Intellectuals as Sex Symbols Posted: 5/31/2007 6:09:33 AM | | i got to meet gary snyder years ago. i found him quite sexy then...something about his presence, and of course, his expressiveness. he had this overwhelmingly cerebral appeal, balanced with an unmistakable cthonian appeal i found absolutely irresistable. | |

| Lack of Intellectuals as Sex Symbols Posted: 5/31/2007 6:15:21 AM | | You have to be in person to get to know someone and appreciate them for their intellect or personality. Looks can be appreciated from a photo or a movie. | |

| Lack of Intellectuals as Sex Symbols Posted: 5/31/2007 7:01:43 AM | To be a great and successful actor like Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, George Clooney you have to be extremely smart as well as attractive. These guys are brilliant. They have not devoted their time to science or literature, but you have to do what you love or your success is going to be limited.
The reason you don't see a lot of attractive men of any intellectual type of because there aren't a lot of attractive men. I'd say 1-5% of men are considered outstanding with regard to their physical appearance. Some are brilliant, some aren't. Since a small percent of the population have IQ's above 133 (2%) then it makes it even less likely that they will be handsome and brilliant. Brad, Tom, George and myself are 4 examples.

Bill Gates scammed his way into money, and didn't even invent the shit he makes billions on these days, he scammed or stole it. He can't program worth a lick either. He's not brilliant, he's a monopolistic software dictator. No way does he deserve respect for how he came into "power". But gee, I wonder why women are attracted to him?
He is certianly NOT an intellectual in the sense that Einstien or Newton would be classified...

Can you name any?
Charles Schwab's chief investment strategist, Liz Ann Somers.
How is that? I've seen her in the old Wall Street Week with Lou Ruyekieser. She is really hot looking... and really smart.

In the month or two that I have been on this site and posting on these forums, the above quote is possibly the most accurate analysis of an issue that I have seen so far.

| Lack of Intellectuals as Sex Symbols Posted: 5/31/2007 7:35:51 AM | | Have you read a woman's magazine lately? Cosmo, Chatelaine, no articles on serious stuff like global warming, because that doesn't concern the put together woman. Intellectuals, is that a new shampoo? | |
|
| Lack of Intellectuals as Sex Symbols Posted: 5/31/2007 7:37:07 AM | he is brilliant and you are afraid of power.
Not at all, I'm just smart enough to know the truth...
Lemme guess, you're the type to think Hugo Chavez is a great man aren't you?
There is one overriding attribute why women would find Bill Gates attractive, and we all know what that is...
The same man could be a brilliant computer programer in a cubicle at NASA making a software engineer's salary, and guess what, a lot less women would be attracted to him...
