About all I can suggest is check out your local adult boutique or sites on the internet. I have seen body paint at a couple of adult stores around here.

Have you checked out mehndi (henna) ?

ETA: Avoid black henna... it contains a toxic additive.

senti, yes i did consider henna, but that's a bit too long lasting for this kind of thing. thanks for your honest response, though.

marie, after checking your headline
Looking for caucasian friends
i guess i can see where ]you might think your response was funny, but really, methinks he and i both are a bit above such elementary attempts as um, watercolors?!

Hey,girl!

Have you tried looking at a craft shop,or costume rental store?
They may have something.
The last time I bought body paints( for face painting for my daughter)I found them at a dollar store of all places!
It was like tempura paint, and washed out really well.

Without knowing details of your project, it's hard to be specific; but here goes.

If you're wanting to do face painting there are several options open to you. Depending on the results you want you can use:

1.)Mehron, Snazaroo, and Paradise all make professional quality face paints. Mehron also makes clown grease and they've been at it forever. I prefer Mehron (because I use their clown white), but the others are great as well. Paradise is a bit expensive, the others are very affordable. You can find them at www.larocks.com
Larock's is my supplier for my clowning needs. Good people, Good prices, Great service.

2.)Barns & Noble and Books-A-Million sell cheap face painting kits. So do Dollar Tree stores. Cheap paints often yield cheap results.

For Body Paint...

Usually that crap you get from porn shops suck. Sure it might get the job done if you're just wanting to latex up for someone for a few minutes, but for real quality; you want real paints from people who know what they're doing.

TIM GRATTON'S FACE AND BODY PAINT
is an excellent choice for a serious project. Alot of costumers and stage actors use this stuff (among others). It can be found:
http://www.matisse.com.au/pages/tim.htm#acrylic

Michael Davy also offers an excellent product at:
http://www.michaeldavy.com/

and finally, REEL Creations makes an outstanding product. Darth Maul from Star Wars I was done with this stuff. It is virtually sweatproof and will wear off over a period of several days. You have to use a remover to take it off properly. If you saw the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition with the lady painted orange head to toe in the water - Same stuff. You need an airbrush to apply properly. You can find it at:
http://www.makeupmania.com/details/IA-0021-01-000.cfm
or google it. The stuff is pricey and you can expect to pay over $100 easily for an application.

Airbrushes are affordable for appicators these days. No need to go out and buy an expensive one. Grab one of the $20 ones from Walmart, in the toy and model section.

If you're wanting grease, clown white, or make-up (costume makeup, not cosmetic) the top few choices are going to be Mehron, Proface, Ben Nye, or Jim Howle which you can also find at Larocks. www.larocks.com

If you add details of what your project is, I will offer suggestions.

TIM GRATTON'S really is great stuff.
Might be a bit pricey for casual user applications, though.

A little trick we used to paint kids' faces was to use fabric paint (bought
at any craft store for .75-2.50 per colour) mixed with a basic lotion.
3 pts paint to 1 pt lotion.
It remains slightly tacky due to the lotion and can be cleaned off easily.
(we used face powder to seal it)
If you use straight paint, the reds & blues may stain a bit.
It is an acrylic base, so it's a plasic polymer... get it on clothes & it may stain.
(but that could be fun, too)

Liquid latex works quite well.

It dries in less than a minute, comes in a variety of colours, and peels right off-- painlessly-- when you're done with it.
It's a little pricey-- up here one 8 oz can is about $20 CAD-- so you may want to consider buying the three primary colours and then mixing your own secondary ones. However--- a little bit goes a LONG way!!!
The stuff I bought is made by GPS Industries out of Palm Springs, CA. the cans have a website address on them of: www.liquidlatex.com You may be able to find a local distributor of this stuff on their site. (I purchased mine at a local adult store.)
DO NOT use it in your hair!! If you do, use vegetable oil to remove it.

I use cheap nasty brushes ranging in size from your basic kids paintbrush to a 2" one, all purchased from the dollar store--- and they work fine. Wait until the latex dries and peel it off the outside surface of the brush... it will come off the individual 'hairs' pretty easily as well.

good luck with your search; I hope that i was able to offer a decent suggestion.

peace out
Misha

many thanks to all of you wonderful people who left real and valid useful information.

soooo, we went shopping, we bought lots of big bottles of non toxic water based colors, stopped to pick up take out food and guinness and then... we started to unfold a huge plastic drop cloth over my bed and then laughed as we realized best to just discard it. i had a plethora of good quality brushes so we had a variety to sample. fluorescent neon orange, yellow, pink, red, green, silver and gold/bronze, black, purple and two different tones of blue...

he became a bronzed tiger with bronze gold and neon orange while i became a hot pink leopard with large purple spots. sorry, can't post any of the pictures here... but we smiled and laughed a lot and had a very nice time. it was a hot night and the paint felt amazingly cool upon application, even at warmish room temperature.

clean up in the garden bath tub and then a with a shower rinse was thorough and quick.

will we do this again? methinks very decidedly, yes. great fun! and yes, i just knew he'd be so deliciously creative?!

i dare any of you to try it with someone you deeply care for and trust, and post your experiences herein!
(thanks again for all the helpful suggestions!)
