Posted: 6/1/2007 9:43:30 AM | | I used to work for a woman who always cooked her potatoes in fresh dill with sale and pepper nothing else. Now I work for a woman who had a kitten because I put butter on mine, apparently in her world, you ONLY put mustard on potatoes! So this got me to thinking, just what does everyone put on potatoes? I lead such a sheltered life, I was certain butter had to be right.... LOL | |

Posted: 6/1/2007 9:59:17 AM | I would first get huge baking potatoes,bake till done at 350 . Cut in half lengthwise and scoop out pulp into a large bowl or food processor. add butter,sour cream, salt,pepper, x old grated cheedar,your favorite herbs ( yes ,that too if you want) put back into potatoe shell and bake till golden. You can use your imagination and put just about anything you want and make a nutrious meal ,easy and keeps for days,you can microwave,steam or bake.
If you have a date and want to get a WOW, use your food processer,blend and put in piping bag with a large tip and pipe rosettes around the edges

Hash Browns: ketchup and the yolk from my soft poached eggs
Potatoskins: cheese and green onions
Baked Potatoes: butter, chives and fried mushrooms
Mashed Potatoes: gravy or butter
French Fried Potatoes: chilly and grated cheese | |

Fries - ketchup, ketchup and gravy, gravy, gravy and cheese curd, mayo
Baked - cheese sauce brocolli, bacon sourcream chives butter, butter, sourcream, chili,
Scalloped - resturant by the office adds gravy too.
Hashbrowns must have fried onions and ketchup and the ooooie gooey part of an egg if served with eggs | |

Mashed potatoes......lots of gravy
any other potatoes.......nothing but salt
I love potatoes, I even eat them raw. | |

Homemade fries: vinegar (ideally malt and cider), salt and pepper
Mashed: add sour cream or cream cheese, top with salt and pepper and MAYBE a bit of butter
Baked: butter or sourcream and fresh chives
Leftover baked: dice em up, add grated cheddar and diced ham and nuke the bugger unti the cheese is melted.
Boiled: just salt and pepper please
New potatoes/baby potatoes: boiled until tender, salt and pepper and a wee bit of butter
Roasted: salt and pepper
Braught kartouffel: parboiled potatoes sauteed with bacon, green pepper, onion and garlic....sooooo tasty....soooo yummy
Kartouffel salat aka german style potato salad: slightly underboiled potatoes, secret family vinagrette, sliced green onions and a dash of paprika for colour...make a day ahead to let the flavors marry ideally | |

Posted: 6/1/2007 7:23:17 PM | A key ingredient to mashed potatoes that not many people know about is white pepper. It can be tricky to find but it is such an amazing taste. Not overly peppery but has a bit of a kick. White pepper, cream cheese, sour cream, butter, garlic (fresh or dried or powder), salt, dill, ranch or bleu cheese dressing, maybe some bacon and green onion. (some combination of those ingredients not all of them)
Just a little FYI for everyone.....leftover mashed potatoes make a great base for creamed soups. | |

Mashed _ Gravy
French fries ( chips) - either ranch dressing ( good stuff) gravy, ketchup, sour cream sometimes all depends on the mood. or chip sandwiches with a lil sauce ( ketchup)
Baked- sour cream and butter with a few chives, or sour cream with melted cheddar, or twice baked take out the middle whip up with sour cream and butter put back into shells and top with cheddar or top with cheese and broccoli , or chili , or bar-b-qed pork and sour cream. really on this one the only thing that limits you is your imagination.
tator tots,- ketchup, or take a soft tortilla and put in with scrambled eggs , sausage, bacon, cheddar cheese, and white sausage gravy, can add some tomatoes or salsa or anything roll up and toast instant breakfast.
hash browns- plain or with ketchup or on bread with sausages and eggs,
or you can cut up potatoes toss with garlic and olive oil, chives, fresh Italian herbs and bake
or slice up and mix coconut milk or cream, cream, onion soup powder mix, and condensed milk bake until tender .
Potato salad with eggs , onions, pickles, miracle whip , honey mustard , bacon bits, salad herbs, and anything else you desire.
really with potatoes the sky is the limit and the only limitations is your imagination its a versatile veggie that many many things can be done with them | |

Posted: 6/2/2007 9:38:02 AM | | it's bbq season so i like to cut small white potatoes (nuggets - or you can use the red ones too) into quarters and spread them out on foil with a little butter and onion slices - then sprinkle the contents of one of those Knorr Swiss Onion Soup packets all over (you won't use up the whole packet - maybe half if you're making a serving for 4 people) then grate fresh ground pepper liberally and seal the whole works up in tin foil - use quite a bit of foil cuz you're throwing directly on the grill. About 20 minutes to cook on med-high- eeeyummm! | |

in a cassorole dish add potatoes sliced thin, then add onions, garlic, salt & pepper, diced bacon, butter and top it with cheese whiz , cover with foil and bake in the oven at 350 for about 45 minutes.  to die for!!! | |
