Having noticed some very nasty behaviour on these here forums last night,

i thought i would ask your view on the forest gump theory.....ugly is as ugly does?

Ok....i know forest said "stupid is as stupid does" but you get my drift!

So.....do people you find aesthetically pleasing,

suddenly become ugly when nasty/vicious comments are made?

"God don't make ugly"

I do not get upset for one posting what they feel, or truly beleive in.

I do get upset when someone contridicts their profile.

"I also get upset when someone Lies and called on it, yet they continue to lie."

I think we all have a right to say what we want on any topic and not be slammed.

However I do not change the way I feel by one post, there are way to many topics to discuss and not everyone will agree...

I do however avoid some posters because they do not say what they think... they attack.. Are or just down right rude and no class...

I will attack a liar in a heart beat. If you are stupid enough to lie.. Don't be stupid enough to be caught.

But, No I do not make my decision based on only 1 post... I think if you track some you will see they are just always rude. Or very passionate on a certain topic and may exsplode a bit... However with reading many of their post I decided to stear clear of a few:) Just because I like a good debate not argument where people become idiots...

People are fickle things and it's tantamount to playground tactics on here sometimes. Says more about them than the person they suddenly 'go off' as soon as a difference of opinion is aired.

Sure, some things posted might put me off a person's character or change my opinion of it, but I'm a firm believer in life being too short to hold grudges, especially online.

If you're physically with someone who reveals a needlessly cruel side of their nature then yeah, it can definitely have an effect how I view that person's looks. Online's a bit different though & it'd take more than 1 or 2 posts for me to start to form negative opinions about that person's personality.

They don't become ugly but it makes me think..."what a shame"...same thing happens if they aren't very bright.

if we assume that people are honest about their view on the forums, seeing how they react to others on the forum is certainly a good way to judge someones character

I have seen some posters I thought nice and polite become crude and nasty in some of thier posts when they have become riled by what someone else has posted..Its not a pretty sight..

It can certainly give you an insight to another side of what you thought a person was like..

Yep.
I've thought people were quite tasty, then read a horrible post and they look a lot less attractive!

Hmm.. interesting proposal. I can see what you're getting at. I shall have to have a look through last nights posts to garner a full and educated opinion of this important matter, it seems.

However, for me it might help if I found any of the forum members aesthetically pleasing. Unfortunately, at this moment in time, I don't. Present company accepted, of course. Still, I shall have a rummage through this forum and see if i can dig up some aethetically pleasing folk.

I'll be back.

I hope that if someone is hurt or offended by anything that I say, They would contact me privately to tell me. I am worried that this medium is a difficult one to truly express what it is that I am trying to say. I am so used to using my expressions and tonality to soften or emphasis a point, and am concerned that without them I will be too blunt or direct.

someone once said to me when posting comments on forums read it 3 or 4 times before clicking on post comment

the idea is if your comment comes across as Nasty, sacastic or rude to yourself 9 times out of 10 thats how others will view it.
Forums is a very hard way of communicating as people just will not get your personality from simple txt hence the reason smileys are often used but these can also be mis-interperated.

forums should be used what they were initially intended for, and thats light hearted banter.
if i thought for one minute someone was taking the proverbial out of me or having a swipe then id contact them privately and keep arguments off the main view but thats not always possible if someone has really pissed you off.

another thing i always keep in mind is this, if someone thinks its ok to have a pop at you and be nasty on a forum i always picture them as a sad geek that cant hack it in the real world a bully in front of a screen and keyboard a **** cat in reality.

There are certain types of post that colour my perception of forumites, not all posts though and I can't really explain which posts grate on my nerves... Just some of them seem to hint at hidden personality nasties.... There are a couple of posters that I tend to expect a certain negativity in every post and am rarely disappointed and yes no matter what their physical beauty the inner purulence seeps through...

We are all human, and believe it or not we are not perfect Even Me (i know you all will find that is very hard to believe)

If i ever say something nasty to people...., i am sure they're still thinking i am attractive But if they say something nasty to me.... then obviously they become ugly

Someone having a different opinion, than someone else is a positive thing on a forum, and it makes me think more of them as an individual, as it shows that they are not afraid to say what they believe, even if there opinion is not the most popularily held.

As to nasty/ viscious comments you refer to, if the sole purpose of these being made is to provoke, or intimidate another poster, then that shows that person as a bully, and as such I would think less of them.

I can not comment on the " nasty behaviour on these here forums last night" you mention, as although I was online, I can not recall such behaviours.

I do not always have the same point of opinion as everyone else, but it is my opinion, and if someone takes offence to me having that opinion, then they are more than welcome to state so, either in the forum, or via private mail.

I am so used to using my expressions and tonality to soften or emphasis a point, and am concerned that without them I will be too blunt or direct.

That is the right attitude to have Hypno after all the forums are about communicating but too many times a person's character is not understood by what they have written and too much is presumed about them, so if you have a problem with someone talk to them about it. I was here last night and a number of threads were deleted because of the behaviour of certain posters. I am dismayed to see today that those same self-righteous people who enjoy pontificating to all the newbies and flaming them outrageously are still posting today. I think there is something very amiss going on here on these forums because the same people who moan all the time remain without being sanctioned yet others who are clearly joking and most likely contribute a lot more to serious debate are restricted in how many posts they can post per day and get unreasonably long bans or complete bans.

Something is very wrong really.

What I find that is ugly is the smugness of the sort of people I have referred to who are actually few and far between because most people on here are not so uptight or so threatened by other people that they need to resort to sneaky tactics or even out and out flaming to draw attention to someone they have taken exception to.

I hope the numpties on this site get sussed soon and are treated with the disdain they so deserve because theirs is the ugliness that nobody needs to have shoved in their face whenever they want to enjoy being with people they enjoy the company of in the main. I hope the beautiful people, the funny and nice people get to shine on this forum once again.

I wouldn't say that this just applies to 'aesthetically pleasing' people (ie the pretty ones) - it applies to all posters of all looks.

True beauty comes from within, just like true ugliness.

What concerns me is when a poster starts the 'flaming' process, rather than responds to it, and generally, the 'flaming' is begun by those who I don't find 'attractive' on any level anyway.

Whilst I don't condone 'flaming', I can sympathise with someone who chooses to respond rather than report, though I would always urge they do the latter.

I'm not sure if it's really as simple as that.

However, the things people post do give a great insight into their personality far more than just reading their profiles or looking at their pictures ever would.

There have been a few people who have surprised me by not being as I imagined. I've been pleasantly surprised by some and disappointed by others.

Well they say a troll is rather ugly, and lets face it, there has been more than one on here just lately.. They might look like an angel, but the nastiness inside always comes out, and its quite amusing to watch certain regular forumites, take on a new profile, so they can be vile to others, just a shame they don't realise that a few of us do have the intelligence to realise who they are, and to also realise our original thoughts on the said people have been proved correct..

I have to admit, that if I am expressing my opinion on a thread, I try not to have a go at the poster, but just express my side of things. I have noticed on a few threads some pretty nasty comments about the poster, and feel that even though posters share a bit of their life with us, it is not up to us to trample all over them, they are after all, just sharing a bit of themselves, it's not an invite to "kick the sh1te" out of them, as I have noticed a few people do.

I also understand sometimes it's really hard to express things the way you intended them to sound, without writing War and Peace type posts.
