There was a thread posted up in the single parents thing, but it went nowhere fast. I think we need to look at this because there are people out there with one skill set and can't do something else.

Let's post up what we know and see if there is someone else we can trade with.

I can work on cars. The only thing I can't really do is the exhaust systems. I don't have a welder. I do have a paint rig, but I don't have a cleanroom to paint in.

I can fix just about anything in a house. Plumbing, woodworking, carpentry, drywall repair, electrical.

I can fix computers to an extent. I have been in the computer industry for 14 years now, but I am higher up in rank, so I don't actually get out and work on them often.

we had a thread similar to this , oh, a long time ago. I doubt you could of found it very easily though.

I can cook, clean house pretty dang good ( used to own my own cleaning business) Write poems, make web pages ( but I dont know how to advertise them) I can babysit on an occasional weekend if your close by , saturday nights, if I have nothing planned.

Im a great listener and do NOT carry tales if you just need someone to talk to.

I can cook and I can feed a lot of people some quality food on a very tight budget. I can write A term papers over night, or do your Power Point for work.

I need help with algebra and moving furniture....

I am very resourceful kind of person. If you need to know how to do something I can usually find out how to do it, when, where and why for. Also I am an "reverend" I can baptise, marry and bury.

And Sdlemaker, I would think someone may want more than a back rub after cleaning your stalls!

Uhm... I can give you pretty good legal advice, help you draft your own pleadings, cook one heck of a large meal, organize huge get togethers and carry on a decent conversation.

I really need to learn how to sew - and dance - I can't 2-step.

Ha, ha! I have two sewing machines. I have what is called a serger and the other is the standard single-needle. The serger has two needles.

I started out sewing car interiors.

Dancing... Can't help ya too much. Oh, and I always love a good conversation.

sdlmaker, I've mucked stalls before, been a while, and I love horses. BUT no offense to you.. Id rather go horse back riding than have a massage. I do give an awsome massage too though, if you help muck the stalls and take me riding.. I'll give you a massage.

Main skill is that I'm a singer - classically trained, professional... I currently run 3 karaoke shows a week and sing in a band... I've also been known to do the occasional musical/opera/operetta... I have connections in the DJing/KJing fields in Houston so I can give you the names of some professional providers (may not get a discount but I can guarantee QUALITY service)...

I've worked as an administrative assistant, HR generalist, consultant, data analyst and a project manager... all of that means that I'm REALLY well acquainted with all Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access) and can do some light coding (SQL)... I have a passing acquaintance with SAP (from a developer's standpoint) and can carry-on a conversation about most computer-related topics (for about 20 minutes or until my eyes glaze)...

I've been trained in communications, teamwork, leadership and coaching - both classroom and "on-the-job"... I've had several people tell me I'm an excellent "life coach"... So if you need a perspective not your own (and not biased), I'm a good resource... :)

Any English nerds? I've got a paper due Friday - it's my first paper due for a new professor, want a lot of people to proofread it, make sure there's no stupid typos or grammar/spelling/punctuation errors.

In return I'll um... wash your dog? I dunno LOL

Send it to me, I'll look at it. But if you have seen the picture of my dog, you might back out right about now.

I had to do a senior project in HS to graduate. I chose bartering. Below are some of the observations I made on it.

Bartering in theory is a good idea. Gives you a chance to get rid of excess for something you don't have access to. But it can be tough to implement in any large way.
Eventually you get into a pretty convoluted maze of "what can I trade to that guy so that I get get this item, to trade to that girl, so I can get that item to trade to that other guy who is the one that actually has what I want" (replace item with skill in the preceding example as needed). And that's a pretty simple one, only 4 people involved. Think about 10, 20, or 50.

At some point vouchers tend to be introduced. "This is good for one cord of wood from Bob" and then those are traded around.
Also, you can run into the problem of setting values to skills. From the above example, how many dinners does cutting up a cord of wood get you?

Anyways, it can be done, but I'd suggest keeping it fairly small.
