| Trails in Halifax area Posted: 6/18/2007 8:41:32 AM | | So I've started running and am looking for some trails, preferably where I can bring my dog to run too. I hate running on pavement and find trails are better for me. Does anyone know of any places? Doesn't have to be right in the city...surrounding areas are fine too | |

Can't recall the name, but there is a trail in Dartmouth on the way from Main street to Rainbow Haven.

Point Pleasant is the only park that I know of that gets cleared in the winter and you can have your dog off lead if you are off the main trails but there are limits. Flemming Park or The Dingle have some trails, a bit more rough but you can have off lead there if you want. York Redoubt has a great trail 2 miles long that runs below the fort toward Herring Cove. and there is a trail of sorts beside the water supply as you are coming out of the Bay Road. Can't miss the cars. Kind of need to follow someone the first time out as alot of the trails are not well defined. I got lost the first time I was out there and came out on the Nort West Arm and had to do a long treck back to my car. Hope that this helps Kikit

To get there you have to go east on Cole Harbour Road until you see Bissett Road on the right hand side going up the long hill. In a couple kms you will pass the old County Home on the right, across from that is an old barn then you will see two entrances for the trail on the left both of which are well marked. The trail takes you across the water behind Rainbow Haven and the Dartmouth Skeet Club, it ends up in Lawrencetown - wear lots of insect repellent the Moose Flies are in abundance. Have fun

Regards to liz as well. | |
