| Bartending 101 Posted: 6/22/2007 1:16:10 AM | | Hello folks! I just started a job bar tending a few months back. I'm sick of making the same ol' friggen shots. Anyone have any good ideas? I need some new ones. If you could tell me whats in them, or whats your favorite shot, it would help out ALOT! Thanks | |

| Bartending 101 Posted: 6/22/2007 5:59:45 AM | Fave mixing guides for me are Sharpshooters by David Biggs, The Complete Bartender by Robyn M. Feller, and Sex on the Beach and Other Wild Drinks! A Mixers Manual....lots of variety in there.
Personally I've had and enjoyed liquid cocaine, purple f**k, silk panty remover, blow job, and orgasms.....HOWEVER my all time favorite shot no ones ever been able to recreate. A bartender @ my local salsa club is the only guy I know who does it.....try replicating it if you want. It's called the swedish berry. Tastes exactly like it sounds.

| Bartending 101 Posted: 6/22/2007 6:28:15 AM | Lots of people just love dirty girl scouts...The trick if the manly man doesn't want this shot...sneak in higher proof vodka...
1 oz vodka 1 oz Kahlua® coffee liqueur 1 oz Bailey's® Irish cream 1 oz white creme de menthe
Mix the vodka, kahlua and bailey's and pour over ice. Pour the creme de menthe down the center of the glass. Looks gross, but tastes delicious!
For the Prince fans...this is one tasty...goes down smooth and look out...packs a wallop...
Purple Rain
1 oz vodka 1 oz rum (151 for the adventuresome...might cause preganancy...) 1 oz triple sec 1 oz gin 1/2 oz chambord 7up splash of roses lime juice
For me, I just walk into a bar, ask them to make me a fuming a'hole. When they ask what's in it...I tell 'em give me 12 shots of Jack Daniels and ask me in 15 minutes...
Cheers! | |

| Bartending 101 Posted: 6/22/2007 12:15:54 PM | Went out one night with a friend from LA who decided to test the theory that, bigger by far than me, he MUST be able to drink me under the table.
We hit one bar where he ordered Bloody Brains ... well, the bartender wasn't satisfied with his work, so he kept giving us his "mistakes" until he was content with the result.
Basically, if the haze of alcoholic stupor permits me to remember, it's ¾ oz peach schnapps, ¾ oz. Irish cream, and grenadine (although we were using cranberry liqueur).
Float the Irish cream into the schnapps (looks like brains), then spoon or eyedrop the grenadine into it ...
Not normally one for shooters (tequila excepted), but this was tasty.
Oh, and my American friend a puddle on the floor before the last drinks were served. Poured him into a cab, shamelessly mocked him ever after. Of course, I was young and foolish back then ...

| Bartending 101 Posted: 6/22/2007 1:45:27 PM | I'm not really a mixed drink kind of guy for the most part but when I do order one it is almost always the long island iced tea. I hate when they use a lot of the lemon sour stuff. Just a shot of vodka, gin, tequila, rum, and triplesec and a splash of coke.
The dirty girl scout sounds like something I might enjoy for flavor but I wouldn't seriously drink something like that all night long. You'd be sick as a dog. When I really drink I stick to one clear liquor for the most part. Can't beat the soothing warmth of scotch scotch scotch. mMmm

| Bartending 101 Posted: 6/24/2007 9:20:31 AM | HR,
Hope these help. I am a Vodka gal so you get the idea. I did change the measurements to US as much as possible.
BLITZ 1 oz tequila 1 oz rum 1 oz gin 1 oz vodka 1 oz cranberry 1 oz sour mix splash tonic water
In a large shaker half filled with ice combine all ingredients except tonic water. Strain into four shot glasses. Top with tonic water. Can be enjoyed like straight tequila shots except lick of sugar, swallow shooter then suck lime. (Makes four 1 1/2-ounce servings)
Grateful Dead 1 oz rum 1 oz tequila 1 oz vodka 1 oz gin 1 oz Chambord
Mix all shots into a tumbler with ice, strain into 4 shot glasses. Drink and Be Merry!
I See Nothing 1/2 shot vodka 3/4 shot Irish cream 3/4 shot Godiva chocolate liqueur 2 shots milk 1/2 cup ice
In blender crush ice, add alcohol then milk or shake ingredients and serve on the rocks.

| Bartending 101 Posted: 6/25/2007 3:35:06 PM | Not really a shot
However, the "F street Station" in Anchorage does this gorgeous little drink called the "Glacier Martini"
Chill the martini glass Freeze the Sapphire Blue Gin.
when ready to serve.....
Remove glass from frig or freezer (however you chill down glasses) Swirl some blue curaco in the glass and dump excess out. Fill with ice cold gin. Throw in 2 olives.
Yummers
and it's this lovely shade of glacier blue.

| Bartending 101 Posted: 6/26/2007 4:43:35 PM | i experimented alot when i was younger with "cocktails" and shots.... also helped that i knew the bar staff and they wanted to practice making so i got most for free or half price...
there are too many to choose from but i found a website that has all my favs on there... they are "cocktails" but can be made into shots.... ive listed my all time favs... just note that we might call them differently over here.
http://www.cheapdrinks.com.au/pag_Cocktails.pub
best put into shots are QF's ( quick fuks), B52's, Illuisons (also good sold in a jug and shots giving) also liked having the tequila slammers in test tubes where there is the lemon chunks covered in salt at the bottom then tequila to fill up the tube.
for the more daring ya have ya flaming lamborgini ( not suited for a shot but will get ya really pissed) and i am the reining champ of the deathcharge which is a half scooner/pint glass of beer (heavier the beer the better doesnt work with light beer) and shot glass full of OP rum... drop the shot glass into the beer and skull trying to finish before the froth reaches the top of the scooner glass... i can have 6 in a row without passing out or throwing up.. that was in my early 20s.. i took the crown off a male friend that was 6'4" built like a brickshithouse he held the title of 4 for about 2 years...lol...
there is also a shot that i had over xmas... i cant remember what it is called... but it tasted like cookies and cream... well eventually it did....
almost forgot... one.. ...strawberry kisses bar staff and i made this one up on a quiet night.... white sambocca or galiano with strawberry liquor half and half of each...
oh god i sound like a alcoholic even though i havent drunk like that in 6 years....lol.

| Bartending 101 Posted: 11/11/2007 7:32:19 PM | Hey High.Roller!
I am a bartender and have been for 12 years. I don't know what your shooter standards are but here are a few of my faves.
Bottle Cap (Drop Shot) 1/2 shot of Raspberry Sour Puss 1/2 shot of Root Beer Schnapps Pour this shot, and then in a side glass, pour some lime juice and 7-up/sprite together. Drop the shooter glass in..tastes just like the candy.
Pink **** 1/2-3/4 shot of Raspberry Sour Puss CAREFULLY layer Baja Rosa or a similar strawberry flavored creamed tequila.
Apple Pie 3/4 shot of Apple Sourpuss 1/4 shot of Butter Ripple schnapps. Top with a dash of cinnamon. You can adjust the measurements according to taste on any of these shots. Hope your customers enjoy them

| Bartending 101 Posted: 11/12/2007 12:47:31 AM | Important note:
If someone asks for a B52, first confirm whether they want the shot, or the coffee.
For the former
1/3 oz Khaluah 1/3 oz Baileys 1/3 oz Grand Marnier
Ideally using a spoon, but from the bottle if not, carefully layer the Kaluah, Baileys, and Grand Marnier in that order. If properly done the different liquids will rest on top of each other due to the varying density. It's a really nifty effect and it's DAMN TASTY even if it is diabetes in a shot glass.
If coffee, take above, put in coffee.

| Bartending 101 Posted: 11/12/2007 1:42:20 AM | My favorite bar offers $1 shots between band breaks: -purple hooters (vodka, grape flavoring) -blue kamakazes (vodka, blueberry flavoring) -pink pussies (vodka, strawberry flavor liquor) If you just want to get people trashed go for jager-bombers: (jagermeister and red bull). Long island iced tea: (add one shot of each) -vodka, gin, rum, triple sec, sweet & sour/coke. Blended margaritas seem to get things happaning as well: jose cuervo tequila and frozen lime juice | |
