| this bloody currency called 'Euro' Posted: 6/25/2007 11:39:52 AM | really it makes me fume
since it was introduced, prices have increased a lot!
i remember going to the supermarket with 5000 pesetas (the old Spanish currency) and i was able to buy a lot of things. now with 30 Euros (just the equivalent to the same Pesetas) i barely buy a few ones!
prices have increased in some cases more than 70&!
sorry to make you remember, but the Euro will be introduced in Britain after some years time, so my humble counsel is to be prepared against that bloody pain in the ar$e
sorry to be rude, but i say this: phuck the Euro

Would be suicide for any government, a large proportion of the UK public is very anti-European... Well, anti France/Belgium actually if you want to split hairs, but that's neither here nor there
|
| this bloody currency called 'Euro' Posted: 6/25/2007 11:45:19 AM | i know it stinks... i go over to see my family in southern Ireland ... and its Euro over there... notice the price differences , they are huge!.... just a thought, when it does come into UK.. what happens to the pound shop?... does it become the three quarter shop or something? | |
|
| this bloody currency called 'Euro' Posted: 6/25/2007 12:02:05 PM | | I met some nice German people on holiday, and they told the same story that prices went sky high. They said and others that it was the worse thing that had happened to them | |
|
| this bloody currency called 'Euro' Posted: 6/25/2007 12:09:03 PM | | i hope the euro never comes here. i too have heard stories about price hikes. i am off to pick up some euros for my holiday tomorrow. going to spain. i will be careful about how much i pay for anything! | |
|
| this bloody currency called 'Euro' Posted: 6/25/2007 12:12:32 PM | If any government tries to introduce the Euro in England its an election loser and every single politician knows it.
So ......... the Euro in England, not bl00dy likely, and don't forget, at the moment there are rumblings in the German Government about going back to the Mark!
Maybe the Spanish public should have made their feelings known. The one thing the British have is a strong sense of pride in our Monarchy (as much as it pains me to say) and one of the reasons we have refused the Euro is because our Sovereigns Head is on our coinage.
Our spineless politico's would have to run a referendum and they KNOW, they have NO chance of getting it through. Do NOT tell us how our country is being run when you don't even live here.
|
| this bloody currency called 'Euro' Posted: 6/25/2007 12:36:51 PM | Hardly suprising prices rocketed. Same happened here when we went decimal.
It's the main reason we haven't changed. The pound we have now is only 36 years old so it's not any great love for that, but the fact more than half the population has already been ripped off by a currency change in their lifetime and wont let it happen again.
|
| this bloody currency called 'Euro' Posted: 6/25/2007 12:38:23 PM | your monarchy or Queen have nothing to do with it, as it is a political matter.

THE EURO WILL BE INTRODUCED INTO BRITAIN...
Says who? How would you know? What is your source of information? Is this factual or are you just spouting crAp because we don't have the bl00dy thing and you do? If it is factual, please give us references, that we can look up. Quotations from politicians please stating that we are DEFINATELY having the Euro.
If not .......... shut up!
|
| this bloody currency called 'Euro' Posted: 6/25/2007 12:49:20 PM | i am not spouting any crAp!
Britain is part of Europe (a real fact), Britain is within the European Union (another real fact), Britain will use the Euro after some years time, just like any other member of the EU does or will do.
it is a political matter amongst leaders of the EU and your Queen is just an useless person who now is not even the ultimate authority in Britain (now the highest authorities are those European Ministers and/or European Parliament, who rule everything).
why should i give references? the reference is at hand and you DO know and see it. it is the European Union!
|

| this bloody currency called 'Euro' Posted: 6/25/2007 12:56:29 PM | Euro is just for small countries like Spain... everybody knows the American Dollar and the British pound. Euro is for sheep, you all like following each other. There is no chance that Britain will ever give up its pound to swap for a poxy Euro.
GOD SAVE OUR GRACIOUS QUEEN!!!
|
| this bloody currency called 'Euro' Posted: 6/25/2007 1:08:20 PM | I know nothing about polictics I admit... but as much as I hate to agree with Pedro....

he is right on that one... the Queen has no say in the matter.... she is just a tourist attraction and has no right to dictate to European parliament...she can voice her opinions of course, but that means nothing.... so for all royalists... what is the point of having a royal family? there only use is for a tourist attraction
NO I don't want the euro here, god forbid.... but I fear we have no choice,it will be a sad day if and when it happens
|
| this bloody currency called 'Euro' Posted: 6/25/2007 1:10:42 PM |
what is the point of having a royal family? It's part of our history and culture. We can't just ban or get rid of anything that has no practical use, the world would be a very boring place.
|
| this bloody currency called 'Euro' Posted: 6/25/2007 1:13:35 PM | | I can tell ye that the only reasons prices went up so high in the Irish Republic when they changed over to the Euro is because thanks to the EU, British businesses were able to go there and get a stronghold. Those British businesses such as Marks & Spencers, Boots, Tescos etc. took advantage and raised the old prices to 'round off' the prices they now charged. The Irish pound was worth 1.78 euros so if something cost a pound, the price was raised to 2 euro. I know this because lots of people from the Irish Republic cross the border to buy here because british prices are still cheaper than at home. Even Spanish prices are much cheaper than in Ireland. And of course Sterling has continued to gain in strength against the Euro, the British have done very well from not changing their currency. | |

so because we have history we should pay them to live in the lap of luxury where money is no object to them and let the poor suffer to keep them accustomed to their way of life? fook that

I suspect that they bring a lot more money into this country than take. And the poor don't suffer *because* of the Royal Family, banning them because there are poor people doesn't make sense to me

| this bloody currency called 'Euro' Posted: 6/25/2007 1:19:08 PM | Does no one read the full threads anymore..?
I NEVER said the Queen had any say in the Euro. I just stated that one of the reasons that the british public will never vote for the Euro is because our currency has our sovereign on it. We are patriots, regardless of what we say, we like our own currency and one of the documented reasons why we won't change is because it would almost be like sticking two fingers up at our heritage.
The population of Britain will NOT allow the Euro to become our currency and the politicians know that. We WILL have a referendum if it is ever SERIOUSLY considered and the British will NOT allow it!
London is a world centre for financial services and we would look bloody silly with the Euro as our currency.
And Msg 12 ....... you never gave me any facts to support your ill informed, negative, anti british rant ....... therefore, I assume you are spouting crAp.

If any government tries to introduce the Euro in England its an election loser and every single politician knows it. The thing that really hacks me off, when there's talk of a referendum - then it gets shelved because they know they won't get the decision they want. Sort of removes any remaining respect you have for the political process.
one of the reasons we have refused the Euro is because our Sovereigns Head is on our coinage. That sounds doubtful. Maybe a better phrase would be we'd rather have the current heads than the heads of Belgian politicians.
Unless it was on pikes of course, proudly displayed at Dover as a warning.

The monarchy has plenty to do with it, what ever the feelings of the British public are towards the monarchy we are pround of the fact she is on our money, No British Poltician worth his salt is stupid enough to force it through, and believe me they are all pretty stupid, just not that stupid, they know what side their bread is buttered.

speak for yourself... I have no love for the monarchy and gets on my nerves how the British protect it for our history... waste of money and they are a joke to most

What was 2 shillings and sixpence (12 1/2p) went to 26p.
