| | Hacker on the websitePage 1 of 1 | Hi! There are some hackers on the website. Somebody changed something in my profile, that I would like sleeping around and that I would drink a lot and that I am looking for an intimate encounter. I put nothing of that in my profile!!!! Somebody tries to ruin my person. My picture is on the site. You have to stop that!!!
Or I will take legal actions against the website.

| Hacker on the website Posted: 7/1/2007 5:18:25 PM | Why not try directly contacting a mod instead of threatening to take legal actions against the website? I can understand you being upset, and whoever did this is immature and definitely in the wrong, but does threatening to sue get you anywhere in life, let alone on a dating site that is totally free? Have a mod investigate it, and if they can track it, then the person who did this will probably lose their POF account and privileges.
According to this, POF is not liable:
From the terms of use/user agreement:
SECURITY
Your account is private and should not be used by anyone other than you. You are responsible for all usage or activity on the Service by users using your password, including but not limited to use of your password by any third-party.
Also found this so your putting your OWN POF priveleges at risk: Protest Thread/Post
Anyone that creates a Protest Thread in respect to the Administration of this Site, instead of E-Mailing the Admin or one of the Moderators, will have their posting priviledges permanently revoked, banned forever, all Message Posts deleted, and every Trace and Symbol of that Poster from this Forum removed.

| Hacker on the website Posted: 7/1/2007 7:26:17 PM | op, i've gotta laugh at your post. 99.99% of threads like yours are made by people who somehow leave their computer while still logged in (thus, allowing someone else in the vicinity to post or send messages as themselves) or, indiscreetly, allowed someone access to their password.
and your threats of a legal action are even more hilarious! don't you recall the terms of service you agreed to when you signed up?? let me remind you:
This Agreement represents the entire agreement between you and Plentyoffish regarding the use of our services and supersedes any other agreement or understanding on the subject matter. This Agreement, your rights and obligations, and all actions contemplated by this Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia, Canada. As a condition of using Plentyoffish.com’s services, each user agrees that any and all disputes and causes of action arising out of or connected with Plentyoffish.com, shall be resolved through arbitration, with such arbitration to be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Additionally, except where prohibited by law, as a condition of using Plentyoffish.com services, you agree that any and all disputes and causes of action arising out of or connected to our services shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action. You also agree that regardless of any statute or law to the contrary, any claim or cause of action arising from or related to the use of Plentyoffish.com must be filed within one (1) year after such claim or cause of action arose or be forever barred. The failure of either party to exercise in any respect any right provided for herein shall not be deemed a waiver of any further rights hereunder.

If your Account has in Fact been accessed and Password-changed by Someone else, then the Admin would have to help out.

| Hacker on the website Posted: 7/2/2007 6:23:12 AM | 99% of "hacking incidents" are nothing but the user leaking their password to a third party. Of that 99%, it seems to be an even split of the user intentionally giving their password to someone who then either accessed the account after a fight, or leaked the password to someone else. The other half is the user's ignorance of internet security. Ex. Simply shutting down the browser is not enough, make sure to actually log out, especially at public access terminals.
But from the sounds of it, you simply leaked your password to someone in ill favour to you, who then made a petty personal attack against you. But with that said, I would like to give you a virtual WHAP upside the head for the following reasons...
1) Be realistic. Hackers don't cruise dating sites changing peoples' profiles to "looking for intimate encounter". I'm sure they would much rather get your credit card number than get you annoyed. 2) You VOLUNTARILY posted your picture on the site. If there was a post board at the library, and you put your picture up on it, and someone takes that picture and does whatever bad deed with it, will you sue the library for having the post board? While you are suing PoF, take a shot at your computer maker for allowing you to make the profile to be hacked. Or sue Ben Franklin for inventing electricity to make all this happen. 3) PoF is a FREE service. You usually can't sue for damages for something you don't actually pay for. You don't own your account, PoF is simply loaning it to you. They can do whatever they want to your profile it IF they wanted to. 4) For PoF to be liable, you have to prove that they willingly and maliciously took such negative action against you that caused personal harm or financial loss. All you have done is kind of make yourself look foolish. 5) (The big one.) Read the terms of use/user agreement. Far too often I see people threaten to sue companies over things they have no right to. Anyone who plays computer games has heard about the company who sells virtual currency suing the game maker for trying to interrupt their business (in the terms of use, it clearly states that all in-game items and currency are property of the game maker and cannot be sold for "real" value).
I'm sorry if any of this sounds rude or insulting, I just mean to be informative. People suing for their accounts being "hacked" is like being sued by a drunk driver for your skull denting their hood.

Someone keeps logging into my account too. It is always showing online, when I am not even at home! Isn't there anything the owner can do to prevent this? Not if you have Malware or Trojans on your Computer. I suggest a thorough Scan: Spyware - Popups, Homepage Changing, Browser Hijack
If anyone else has access to your Computer and has installed a Keylogger, all your Personal Infos can be flushed out.

| Hacker on the website Posted: 7/3/2007 4:00:23 PM | Hi! I never gave and give my password to other people. Why should I? Ricarda | |
|
| Hacker on the website Posted: 7/3/2007 5:34:38 PM | WEll; at least now youre being nice. That is a good start. If you can log in then we will have to assume that your password has not been changed. You need to change it immediately. If you work it out with the mods they may be able to set up something to figure out the IP of the person "hacking" your account but if theyre smart enough to hack something then theyre probably smart enough to use a proxy server/anonymizer which would make them virtually untracable. So you might do well to change the password and remember to be nicer when you ask folks for help. And don't be talking crazy things like running to a lawyer to sue POF. Im sure that you would get alot more dates drinking excessively and behaving in a promiscuous manner than being seen as law suit happy. Best of luck | |

| Hacker on the website Posted: 7/3/2007 7:41:34 PM | I never gave and give my password to other people. Why should I? Why would Everybody and his Dog who has Malware, Browser Hijacks, Keyloggers, Backdoor Trojans and/or access to your Password come here and tell us POF Accounts have been compromised, suggesting this Site is insecure?
If you work it out with the mods they may be able to set up something to figure out the IP of the person "hacking" your account The site has no access to anyone's computer, and certainly no Ability to see who is breaking into her Computer.
Further, there is no Way to 'hack' into anyone's Account, since that would imply not only would her account have been compromised, but the Site itself. And that simply isn't the Case.
Even if someone is logging into her Account from some other Computer, all we could have her do is either change the Password, or have the Admin delete the Account, and she would have to make a new one.
And don't be talking crazy things like running to a lawyer to sue POF All legal Threats here have one Common Denominator:
They don't know the Law, nor how it works !!!
In Fact these laughable Threats are so pathetically Lame, we couldn't even be bothered to send them a Warning, never mind a Ban or Account Deletion.
Im sure that you would get a lot more dates drinking excessively and behaving in a promiscuous manner than being seen as law suit happy. Right.

| Hacker on the website Posted: 7/4/2007 2:22:24 PM | You mean that the site admins and other tech support cant see the IP that the user account is logged in from???? Dynamic IPs, Proxy Servers ... Does it matter?
What Wisdom will have been gained that would make any Difference?
Many people log-on from Home, Work, etc.

| Hacker on the website Posted: 7/5/2007 10:19:17 AM | I guess in the end it doesnt matter. I belong to an online poker forum and they tend to block the IP of folks screwing around. But it is definitely alot more work than I would do for someone who is lawsuit happy anyway LOL., Nuff said. | |

Wow, that was pretty heavy, the man that created Plentyoffish and does this all for free has to be totally awesome and gets my upmost respect. I cant believe someone would make such a ludicrous, disrespectful and selfish statement!!!!!!! You should remove your profile, really, plentyoffish is a privilage not something owed to you.

I haven't received any help as of this time.....
But the member you complained about that had the duplicate profile of you does not exist? Was that not what you wanted as a solution?
The moderator told you this directly above your post. I also just searched also trying to confirm this for you and it really does not exist.
Can you maybe double check the name of the member you complained about again? Remember if you find the profile again to send the member name directly to the moderator that posted above your last post here!
Best of Luck!
