| If Cell Phones Could Be Banned,Who Would Join Me? Posted: 7/1/2007 7:21:55 PM | First of all, I owned a cell phone for almost 6 years,so I am not a novice to using the cell phone. After getting rid of my cell in July '06, I can only say positive things about not owning one. It's amazing how we have become enslaved to the phone attached to us. I challenge anyone that owns one to go w\o for about 3months and see if you can do w/o it. By the way, I have an insulin dependent diabetic 9yr old and amazingly enough,It hasn't restricted me a bit to getting help when and where I need it. I just wanted to add that since I know that 99.9% of the responses in favor of the cell are because of medically needy children and someone needing their phone. A "cell phone" itself never saved anyone...now the hospital and getting them there might have, but it wouldn't take me over 10min to get a hold of an ambulance or find someone who could call one,or better yet "I" be trained enough to handle an emergency situation. I have decided to start this march in a very positive direction instead of just bashing the cell. Two reasons will start this rally,PEACE and QUIET! | |

I am not a slave to it though, and turn it off whenever I don't want to hear it ring. It really doesn't get out of hand if you remember to turn it off once in a while! LOL

| If Cell Phones Could Be Banned,Who Would Join Me? Posted: 7/2/2007 3:20:43 AM | I went the first 20 years of my life without a cell phone, and quite frankly, I don't want to go back. The first time I was convinced I needed one was when my car almost broke down in the on my way to Denver from Colorado Springs (60 mile drive). I managed to get to my destination, but if I didn't I would have had about a 2 hour walk ahead of me before I could get to a phone.
Some other pros of the cell phone: -"Hey boss, I'm stuck in traffic because of a car accident, I'll be running late."
-"Mapquest gave me bad directions. I'm on the corner of Street A and Street B. How do I get there?"
-You get a phone call, but you can't answer it right away, you can return the call in say 15 minutes instead of when you get back home in 5 hours.
-The simple fact that you don't have to go home all the time just to check your messages.
-Doubles as a watch, a calender, and (in most cases) a camera.
-text messages. sure beats paying for a pay phone just to say "we need milk" or "I love you"

| If Cell Phones Could Be Banned,Who Would Join Me? Posted: 7/2/2007 6:54:01 AM | Count me out. I only have a cell, as I think paying for two phones (when one is on you all the time) is just....dumb.
That said, my phone's almost four years old. I don't need the latest gimmicks, all I want is a phone. I'll probably have to change soon, but it will be for the cheapest model I can get.
I really don't use it that often.

Posted: 7/2/2007 8:44:07 PM | Well,I see the world has made a profit off of calling a little faster than you would have...or not waiting to get your pics developed before seeing them,or better yet,a chance to call work with another lame excuse! Not me,give me the clean, quiet, fresh air anyday...but Montreal Guy,if I had one again,I would follow in your footsteps. I have an extra $60.00 a month to do something with my kids and I love the ability for people NOT being able to get in touch with me. Hey,I have a computer and a home phone,if that isn't enough, then so be it. Hopefully there are a few people out there that are getting tired of the "rings" in the store, restaurant, bathroom, church, and during work. I just can't say enough about the drivers on a cell...unbelievable!

If he had a cell signal in the area he could of called me. I wont ever vote them gone. (That was a few years ago, and I wont ever for get it.) I am just grateful he wasn't pinned in, and couldn't walk to get help. (They need to work on getting signals to hard to reach areas.)His car flipped on our back county road.

I know for a fact that my words will hold true, just watch as the future of this contraption unfolds.

"That's an amazing invention, but who would ever want to use one of them?" President Rutherford B. Hayes to Alexander Graham Bell, 1876.

Hopefully there are a few people out there that are getting tired of the "rings" in the store, restaurant, bathroom, church, and during work. I just can't say enough about the drivers on a cell...unbelievable You know...phones have this feature where you can put it on silent/vibrate. If you feel compelled, you can even turn it off entirely. Just because you have it on you doesn't mean that it has to "bother" you.
If people couldn't afford the $60 a month (which is rather high for a cell phone bill) then they wouldn't bother.
My dad is normally on his cell because he talks to his family in Florida all the time (him living in Colorado). Gotta love free long distance.
Your son survived because God intended him to,not because of a so called savior called the "cell"...sure I have called 911 sooner, but it never helped any better if I had waited. Your God reference holds no water with nonbelievers, and your particular 911 situation obviously wasn't as critical as it could have been...you know, where time is of the essence.

| If Cell Phones Could Be Banned,Who Would Join Me? Posted: 7/3/2007 8:51:22 AM | I purchased my cell phone 6 or 7 years ago when my father was really starting to show signs of his illness. If anything happened, I wanted to make sure anyone in my family could get in touch with me no matter where I was. Well, after my father past on to another life, I kept the cell phone. Now that my mom is getting on in years, but still works 4 days a week, I keep the phone on JIC. I don't play music or take lots of pictures. I make and take phone calls. Sometimes, if I am in a place where I cannot hear, I might text message someone. I do not keep a land line phone at home. My cell phone is my primary way of being in touch.
I will not give up my cell phone until it is completely obsolete. So I won't rally against them.

As for me, ain't got one, don't want one. Used to have one, but didn't like it at all. Yes there are times it would be handy to have, but that's only being handy not critical to have.

| If Cell Phones Could Be Banned,Who Would Join Me? Posted: 7/3/2007 1:45:11 PM | I like having my cell phone (and it's ONLY a phone -- no camera, no internet, etc.). I'm too cheap to pay for caller ID at home (and I only have my land-line for my DSL).
Could I live without it?? YEP!!

| If Cell Phones Could Be Banned,Who Would Join Me? Posted: 7/3/2007 4:56:10 PM | I recently got one, but leave it turned off most of the time. If I get a call, or need to call someone and I'm in the car - I pull over to the side and stop. I won't answer it otherwise. I'm not a slave to it, but I commute 40 minutes to work, and it will be a comfort to have in case I have car trouble in the middle of nowhere. I also use "Pay as you go" and use it as I need it. Some people are ridiculous with them and always seem to be yakking on them every minute of their lives.
So, while I WOULD ban them when people are driving, or in areas like theaters and libraries - places where it would be a nuisance - I wouldn't ban them outright.

| If Cell Phones Could Be Banned,Who Would Join Me? Posted: 7/3/2007 5:06:04 PM | I refuse to have one and the people that do need be more respectful of the people around them when they use theirs...
I wish the U.S. would allow the signal blocking devices they use in Mexico to be legal here so resturants and other places of business could use them...

| If Cell Phones Could Be Banned,Who Would Join Me? Posted: 7/3/2007 8:01:44 PM | Hmmm...telemarketers are a little smarter than you think. Cell#s are now listed in a public directory. It also has never stopped a collector from finding me. It is crazy to pay for a collector to hound you on a prepaid phone when you never gave them the #. Any drowning person is a believer... I don't have one and have never had a problem getting in touch with anyone that I wanted to talk to. My job has 6 pay phones in the break room. As long as there are still pay phones,I will not pay for a cell. I work for Comcast cable and their digital phones can do anything a cell can do, including unlimited free long distance.

| If Cell Phones Could Be Banned,Who Would Join Me? Posted: 7/4/2007 10:07:43 AM | I had a cell phone for a while. I gave it up because I barely used it. That and the $25 phone cost $45 a month. If they have to hide the charges to get business, why do business with them?
I rarely need to make a call that can't wait. Except that one time I was meeting a friend in another town. I got lost and had a****ns of a time finding a pay phone to get directions. What with all the cell phones, there are few to be found anymore
*sigh* The world progresses forward and loses at the same time.

| If Cell Phones Could Be Banned,Who Would Join Me? Posted: 7/4/2007 10:47:48 AM | Unfortunately in So. Cal it has become a necessity, since the majority of pay phones have been removed. Right after the breakup of the bells, pay phone service was spotty and has been deteriorating steadily. It was 2 vehicle breakdowns that forced me into getting a cell, after hiking to the only gas station in the area and no pay phone. A guy loaned his, and again across the street from Disneyland, even a couple hotels didn't have a pay phone. Its the way things are going, if you can't make money with pay phones no one will keep them working. I feel as you do but like any tool, it can come in handy, or be used or abused to death. And the ones who have it surgically implanted drive me | |
