opinions please?

I really dig the Minutemen, and have a soft spot for Minor Threat. There was some really fantastic high energy stuff being put out by the small guys in local scenes back then.

I don't even remember the names.......I wasn't really big into the punk scene, but a lot of my friends were. When I think of punk, I think of going to CB's hardcore matinees, Misfits, Bad Brains, 7 seconds, etc...
Hung out with a lot of the kids in the local punk bands...so what...we were all in bands of one sort or another, LOL! Funny when someone comes off a stage these days and says "hey we used to hag out" and I have no recollection what so ever, LOL!.

Good Times!!! is all I have to say. I was part of the Akron/Clevo scene back then which spawned Devo and Pere Ubu but we use to hang out with the Maumee/Detroit bands a lot back then such as the Necros, Negative Approach, Tesco Vee and the Meatmen and a bunch of others. Hung with Danzig and the Misfits and was straight edge with Ian of Minor Threat. That was an explosive time period. Lots of blood, sweat, and fist to cups.

80's Punk was great. My favorites were of course the Clash when they were punk, The Dead Boys, The Addicts, Dead Kennedy's and the Sex Pistols.

Hehehe, I hardly remember the music, it was just the backround for all the hanging out. Hell, it was the soundtrack of the entire East Village!

The early 80's was a cool time to be in high school in Manhattan!

80's punk had the same attitude as 50's rockabilly and 60's garage, 70's metal and 90's grunge. And Rock and roll is all about attitude

One of my favourites is Wire. Their best albums were from the late 70's but they put out a few albums in the 80's so I thought they'd be worth mentioning. Here's a few more punk/post-punk bands that I really like.

Gang of Four
Mission of Burma
Husker Du
The Fall

Yes. Yes Yes.
I love most of the SST bands. To me the 80's underground/punk was the BEST period of music with a close second being the 60's. Tall comparison, I know. But the definition of punk got stretched to its limits and everyone was doing it for the music, not record deals and fame. If it were not for the Black Flag/Minor Threat/DOA/Dead Kennedy's/Circle Jerks/Husker Du/Meat Puppets/butthole Surfers etc. Nirvana would never have happened. Plus SST put out the great dinosaur records (yeah, before the became Jr.) as well as many of the aformentioned Minutemen stuff.
The days before being in a band was packaged and sold.

Empty vee- you're damned right!!!

i depends what you count as 80s punk i guess...Nirvana played their first shows around 1987 plus pat smear wuz on of the founding members(you cant argue his credibility) tthey turned to what they are now beacause of the pixies..Sides like you said it wuz sugestive thats what is so neat about the 80s all thoses awsome bands and the fact that punk morphed into so much more than just angry music
