| What is a "Girl next door" type woman? Posted: 7/24/2007 1:16:06 PM | I see it on about 1/2 the profiles of women my age.
Does it mean she is going to flirt and tease me all summer then go out with someone else at the end of summer, because thats what the girl next door to me did.

| What is a Girl next door type woman? Posted: 7/24/2007 1:34:01 PM | They think all you guys fantacize about the 16 year old "girl next door" that you used to peer at through your binoculars when you were 12 or 13, and whack off while she mowed the yard in her bathing suit. She was never attainable THEN, but she's letting you know she is now. She's also letting you know that she doesn't have to wear makeup and jewelry all the time, and that she could even bring you a cold beer on a hot day without summoning the help.
Plus, about half (or more) of the guys' profiles say they're looking for the "girl next door." When I see that, I think maybe the "girl" is too young to have a profile up on POF.

| What is a Girl next door type woman? Posted: 7/24/2007 1:44:00 PM | Every guy may have his specific girl-next-door prototype, but in general, she's the girl whom you always admired from afar and were afraid to approach, fearing that any erotic projection toward her would ruin her image as a decent, pure and almost virginal womanly ideal.
She's (in your mind at least) untrodden ground; unspoiled by other men and so sweet-natured it almost frightens you to think of her in explicit sexual situations. Almost. Here's another example: Picture your sister's best friend from when you were kids. In your mind she'll always be that 10-year-old cutie who played with you in the park. Only, when you catch up with her 10 years later, she's still a cutie, but all grown up and someone you can trust and connect with on so many new levels. The intrigue grows.
Similarly, she could be a friend's cousin whom you met at family occasions over the years. Or even a new employee at work who is shy and unassuming, but still gives you that "she seems so nice, I'd love to talk to her" feeling.

| What is a Girl next door type woman? Posted: 7/24/2007 1:48:55 PM | | She's a pretty girl, maybe a bit on the plain side. A wee bit shy, fairly innocent, likes the simpler things in life. She's 'the girl next door' because she's also a little bit like most average girls, likes 'average girl' things like shopping, going to the beach etc. She's the type of girl you see often. | |

The "girls" on either side of me are much older, wear house coats all day, and yell at anyone that steps foot on their lawn.
I'm not the girl next door type because I'm not a goody-2-shoe type. And I'm definitely not the type you'd want to introduce to your momma, especially if you're a momma's boy.

| What is a Girl next door type woman? Posted: 7/24/2007 2:15:57 PM | | I think it means they are down to earth, nice girls basically. The ones you were friends with as a kid....you felt comfortable with, she was one of the guys, then she grew up and was like ...''whoah''. | |

| What is a Girl next door type woman? Posted: 7/24/2007 7:30:25 PM | | Where I grew up, the girl next door was either related to me (a lot of family land), or was inbred and had an IQ of about 50. This is a fantasy I completely missed out on. | |

| What is a Girl next door type woman? Posted: 7/25/2007 4:13:22 AM | It means she's average attractive, basically a good girl, and you won't find her dancing on a pole. She'll have A drink but rarely get intoxicated, usually doesn't smoke, wants to get married and have kids 'someday' but not right away, and probably won't have sex with you for a while until she really gets to know you. She's someone you'd be proud to take home to present to your friends and family.
But then, the girl who lives across the street from me is sexy slut that looks so hot that guys on the sidewalk have literally walked into trees while gazing at her.
So I still don't know which kind I want.

| What is a Girl next door type woman? Posted: 7/25/2007 5:02:39 AM | | I think girl-next-door means someone who is modest, shy, sweet, not a bombshell but cute with a very down-to-earth personality. But the women who describe themselves as girls-next-door types are most likely the girls-gone-wild type. Never believe what people say, watch what they do. Comes handy all the time. | |

| What is a Girl next door type woman? Posted: 7/25/2007 7:11:16 AM | I'd think the same as the guys on here putting "down to earth?" Same thing WTH?
More so you aren't so intimidated and to make them more personable and approachable!
Wooly crap people can make simple things very difficult and way deeper than need be.

| What is a Girl next door type woman? Posted: 8/2/2007 12:06:19 PM | Funny! I think someone said it best - Betty or Maryann. Not Veronica or Ginger. The girl who everybody thinks that everyone thinks they should want and marry and take home to meet mom. The girl you don't date, because she IS the girl next door. Cute, sweet, nice, freckles, bakes cookies, wholesome. I'm dying to NOT be the girl next door type. | |

| What is a Girl next door type woman? Posted: 9/7/2008 5:23:04 PM | OK folks, I just had to ask my question and instead of starting yet another thread I found this appropriately titled thread, so I'm adding to the discussion.
I'm sure everybody has their own vision of "the girl next door" and I suppose I have my own picture in my mind's eye. At least to me, I always imagined a girl/woman who looked like actress Jan Smithers (who's known for playing Bailey Quarters in the TV series "WKRP in Cincinnati"). She was attractive, perhaps a little too shy, wholesome, articulate and intelligent (maybe that was the girl with glasses thing). This was the way I always pictured her.
My question is, does the "girl next door" actually exist today? It just seems that things have changed so much that the "girl next door" statement seems more cliche in today's world as opposed to when I started to date. It may sound silly to most, but this is the sort of girl/woman I WANT TO MEET, but I wonder if I'm just thinking too far in the past.
So I guess my question is does she really exist or is this just a dated stereotype that no longer exists in the realm of dating?
