What do you think about beauty contests?

Do you see it as exploiting the female body or just women being vein?

I would not ridicule myself by standing there in a batho' telling the judge I want peace for the world just so I could get a bunch of flowers and a tiara..

*edit...Well I wouldn't now but if I think back to my younger fitter days..*cough*

I simply see them as oudated and very boring.

Do we still have them in the 21st century?

I think it's a piss take, just like all these modelling competitions on reality TV they are showing lately.

Who has the right to say if your beautiful or not. Not to mention all the young girls that see these kind of programmes and other media highlighting what's beautiful and what isn't. If they feel they don't fit into what's perfect, then you get young girls trying to become them. It's unhealthy.

We're all fit as fooke in our own way. Even me with my lard arse.

! Nice bit of eye-candy, but an air-headed bimbo proclaiming she wants to feed the world, cure all disease and save the planet in-between modelling photoshoots aint my idea of a real woman.

Watching beautiful women parading... makes me so.. J-Lo

Yes, so stupid and so outdated.. what do they know about 'peace for the world?' (pah')

But if i were one of those women... i would say.. no.. not stupid.. not outdated.. bring it on

I always thought they were degrading and puerile.

...until the day I entered one, and came 2nd in the "Rear of the Year" in my local.

I was 48, the winner was 23...

I think a Miss wet t shirt competition at the next London meet would be fun!!

I dont have any problem with women who want to take part in beauty contests...
Nobody forces them to do it and it just a bit of harmless fun at the end of the day.

I belive womens lib are still after page 3 in the Sun but there not going to win!!

Edit vv Maybe its not such a good idea..health and safety rules and all that!!

I'm neither for or against them where adults are concerned.

But beauty pagents for young girls i just don't understand - it freaks me out seeing pre-teens dressed up as mini adults - yuk! yuk!

Yes think its exploitation really. But, i think the same of women scantily clad in music videos too lol

I wouldn't exploit myself in that manner to various audiences, i'd do it privately instead

Although, think in younger days i would've. Naiveity! lol

I've been undeafeated with my comedy stick legs in any competion I enter them in, as for beauty can't beat a misty morning off the north Devon coast.
As for beauty contests, that'll be the preconceived idea that the media give us of beauty, if you dont watch telly or read papers how do you know what that is?
I know what I like and thats someone who can keep up, someone who's starved themself half to death aint gonna fulfill that requirement.

im with clockwork monkey on this lol
those freaky looking kids who have there hair lackered into a statue and have loads of make up on, they look like minature adults, totally looks wrong, wrong, wrong i say ...
the parents have gotta have something wrong in the brain department to wanna make there young-un look like old-uns...
and if anyone wants to enter a beauty contest ( naturally) then i say go for it, cant see the exploitation (?) in it if they are consenting adults, whatever they are wearing.

What do you think about beauty contests?

I think they're a joke, nothing wrong with admiring eye candy but the stupid superficial way they try to turn them into something "meaningful", deep and incisive is just offensive and insulting.
