Ex-pagans?Page 1 of 5 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
I was having so much fun finding former atheists that I decided to see if there were any former pagans/wiccans. I found a website devoted to that purpose.

Jack, I was expecting that so you did not disappoint me. There is however so many ex-Christians on this site I didn't think it would be necessary.

Okay RDtoo.. Whatever... but, in the interest of fairness then;

Wow.... You right about one thing RDtoo, there are TONS of exchristian sites... I've been looking for ex-sites of all the major religions (christianity, islam, judaism, hinduism and buddhism) and could only find this last exsite above.
If I may be so bold, why were you looking for ex-pagan sites, by the way?

Jack, I almost posted an incident on here about the emotional abuse of a child by a foster mother who is a pagan. It is a true story and is being played out at the school that I work at. There have been plenty of stories on here about bad Christians so I thought that I would turn the tables. In the end I considered that it would be counter productive and not beneficial to anyone, so I posted the ex-pagan site inspired by Prof. Flew's shift from atheism to deism.

Maybe you should post the story then. Religion has very little to with abuse in anyway, it is emotional problems that cause abuse, thats all. Religion just gets thrown into the mix sometimes because it's a good sheild for people to mask true feelings.

You hit on a good point that would make an excellent thread if people could talk without their agendas coming into it. I have to roll my eyes and shake my head whenever I see someone convicted of some heinous crime suddenly profess a new found faith in Jesus Christ. I believe that some of them probably do find that as it takes hitting bottom to look for answers outside yourself, but I am sure some of them use this to try and improve their image. I know a druggie who is constantly in trouble with the law who speaks in Bible verses constantly and is a master of winning your sympathy with his stories of a life of hard knocks. It is people like this who give religion a bad name. Christians, wiccans, whoever do not commit crimes, people commit crimes. Their belief system has little to do with it.

So people who are criminals aren't supposed to find god or jesus? I thought they would be the exact target a christian would choose because in many aspects is that not the general type of person that a christian tries to convert? or do they simply pick and choose as they go along who needs saving and who doesn't? or do those in only dire straights need saving? the catholics pehaps? Pegans have a pure understanding at least and don't try and force everyone into their ways. Yeah it is people who commit crimes but are all criminals condemed? I don't think so and if you want to know I think of it like Utopia states it: We first make thieves and then we punish them. Our society in fact does make many many criminals but they all are not evil for using the skills their first education dissposed to them what else are they supposed to do but what they were taught to? People have no idea how many crimes are commited on the sole basis that per-say someone is hungry or needs money and yadda yadda not to say its right but people should stop and think how did this guy became the way he did and try and give them help to better him or herself instead of crabbing about crime rates. Not all of them are evil and its really crazy to say they are. Any one person can do something wrong but they should at least be left to the guilt on the matter and be allowed to redeem themselves. I am not an ex-pagan but if you knew any you would also know its just as hard to get a pagan to give up their ways as it is to get an athiest to convert to christianity.

Not so sure about that. I think an atheist might become a Christian easier than an agnostic.

Thats very sweet,Psych, (Ive been told I am a religious expeiriance) but we have to stay on topic hun theyll take you off the threads if you dont..
O.T. ofcoarse there are ex-pagans out there,Paganism(circle craft religions) sometimes arent FOR everyone, sometimes a person just may not have "the talent" and if they want to leave the circle, then thats their perogitive,Im just saying Ive (personally) never seen it happen.... A person can and should Pratice what ever beleif system that they feel the most comfortable in...
Posted: 5/29/2005 4:20:44 AM
Well Rdtoo I agree with your post where you said people saying that people committing child abuse would have anything to do with their religious beleifs, thats retarded lol and I dont blame you a bit for being upset about it! People are to quick to learn of a story like this and head strait into their beleifs, personally I cant understand how ANYONE could mistreat a child, its cowardly, and a all around LOW down thing to do...Children are our future and the closest we as human beings can come to immortality and while I beleive everyone deserves a second chance in my oppinion child abbuse (of anykind) is a shameless act that should be delt with swiftly and sevearly regaurless of race, color,or creed.....
Posted: 5/29/2005 7:14:37 AM
I'm an ex-pagan. :P
As for the mistreatment of children, yes, it is wrong. And I do believe that you are right on your insites RDToo about weak willed people using religion as a shield to explain thier actions. Good point as well Lil Babe on children being our future. However, I wonder what your take on senior abuse is? After all, we are all going to be in a situation like that someday, assuming we all survive that long that is. ;) Why is it that people feel the need to prey on the weak is beyond me.
Children are our future. But the elderly have brought us this far.
Posted: 5/29/2005 7:25:17 AM
Well Kenny, merry meet hun,Your the first Ive met.I guess there really is a first time for everything. In ANY Pagan/Witches Religion the elderly are ALWAYS held in the highest regaurd. We call them our Circle of Elders and as my Husband would say,"when an elder tells you to sh*t,you squat n ask what color" But yes I saw a thingy on the news the other day where an old woman was selling things on the street, she had to be in her late 80s and this guy beat the tar out of her and stole all her money! It was enough to turn a persons stomach....
Posted: 5/29/2005 7:30:18 AM
That goes beyond wrong, and also shows the poor moral state that both of our countries have fallen into. Up here in Canada, my mom saw an old lady die of a heart attack in a nursing home because of the rude behaviours of the nurses. And that's just the start of it. It would seem whether elderly or child, people see both as weak and take advantage of the both of them. Although there are a few rare elderly people who have the strength still to fight back. :D
Posted: 5/29/2005 11:39:32 AM
The incident I referred to above about abuse is probably minor compared to many stories I have heard. This 11 year old girl came to school in tears and was frantic. Her name is Samantha, we call her Sammie. Her foster mother told her that she was renaming her Mandy Claus or something like that, because she saw it in the tarot cards. Some who know the situation better than I do say this is just one of many things her wacked out pagan foster mother does. I think I heard her refer to the Lemony Snickett books as being non-fiction! Cuckoo cuckoo.
As for child abuse, anyone, ANYONE, who abuses a child no matter what they claim to be, Christian, pagan, whatever, needs to be dealt with severely.
Posted: 5/30/2005 7:30:57 AM
Anyone who would hurt a child OR the elderly are nothing but low and if capital punishment were legal I am quite sure that many families would be very happy.
Posted: 5/30/2005 7:40:46 AM
I agree with you completly,Though actually harming them would go against my beleifs I do realise that these people DO need to be punished, sevearly, something that will help them see the error of their ways!

The ex-christian thread is popular, maybe this one could be too?
